Barronelle Stutzman gets another day in court

Barronelle Stutzman
On Tuesday, Washington's Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of Barronelle Stutzman. Stutzman is the florist who discriminated against a gay couple contrary to state law. The case that the Court has agreed to hear is Ingersoll v. Arlene's Flowers. That is a surprise. I did not know that the case even existed. The cases at issue are State of Washington v. Arlene's Flowers and a counter-suit. Ingersoll is one of the gay men refused service.

According to the superior court ruling, (Washington v. Arlene's) citing a religious objection Ms. Stutzman refused to make floral arrangements if they were to be used at a same-sex wedding. She also refused to let anyone in her employ make those floral arrangements claiming that doing so would demonstrate her personal approval of same-sex marriage. This is a clear violation of the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD) which then constitutes a violation of Washington's Consumer Protection Act.

I'll try to sort this out.
