UPDATE: Ms. Andrews died on April 24. She has an obit at the Seattle University student newspaper. It raises more questions than it answers. ADF released this video on May 9. Did they know? With respect to her military service, was that as a woman?
Jaqueline Sephora Andrews, a Seattle University graduate student, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 24. Jaqueline was a Master of Divinity student at the School of Theology & Ministry and was a member of the United Church of Christ. According to a Mission and Ministry email, Jaqueline had many years of active ministry, including youth ministry, outreach to those affected by domestic abuse and ministry within the armed forces as an Associate Minister. Jaqueline served 10 years in the U.S. Navy and was deployed in Iraq. She is survived by her two children, Jamilah and Meshach Lacl, and by her grandparents, parents and other relatives. A remembrance service celebrating Jaqueline’s life will be led by the School of Theology & Ministry on Thursday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. in the Ecumenical Chapel at Campion Hall. All are invited to attend. The Spectator staff sends our deepest condolences to Jaqueline’s friends and family. My guess is that this was a deeply disturbed woman who needed some attention and was in conflict with her deeply held religious beliefs. I suspect that she died a very unhappy woman. To some extent she sated her neuroses – her personality disorder – by claiming to be opposed to trans rights. Ordinarily she did little harm. However, she gave conservative Christians, including ADF, an excuse for their bigotry. Those Christians would refer to her as him. The sadder part is that Christians could have and should have learned from her something about gender dysphoria. They are too busy demonizing LGBT people.
Because of the very small size of the transgender community, the transgender rights movement depends upon the advocacy of allies. Ms. Andrews needn't have been grateful to HRC but she should have known when to keep her mouth shut, at least among those who use the correct pronouns.
Note: I have done some re-write now knowing that Ms. Andrews is dead. It is not perfect and I certainly do not want to retract the entire piece. I would bet that ADF knows that this woman is dead and they pimped her anyway.
