Faced with criticism over awarding honorary degree to someone tied to anti-gay groups university scrubs bio

The University of Utah has made problems worse. They are awarding an honorary degree to the ironically named Lynette Nielsen Gay this week. Ms. Gay, who is married to Robert C. Gay – a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of the Mormon Church – has ties to both Family Watch International and World Congress of Families. Both organizations are designated as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The administration received considerable criticism from LGBT groups and students about awarding an honorary degree to someone associated with two hate groups. The university did not change their plans and the degree will be awarded but they did delete references to the two hate groups from Ms. Gay's bio.

Because nothing says university like teaching young people about intellectual honesty.
