Ted Cruz really is a nasty prick

I watched the Meet the Press exchange between Chuck Todd and Ted Cruz. Todd asks a very simple question; whether or not Cruz will support Donald Trump if Trump is the party's nominee. Cruz refuses to provide a yes or no answer in spite of being pressed (kudos to Mr. Todd) repeatedly to do so. Cruz's lack of forthrightness reminds me of a Ted Cruz advertisement that ran in late April. The ad's narrator asks:
Should a grown man pretending to be a woman be allowed to use the women's restroom? The same restroom used by your daughter? Your wife?
The ad addresses Trump's statement that people can use the bathroom that they think is appropriate.
It's not appropriate. It's not safe. It's PC nonsense that's destroying America. Donald Trump won't take on the PC police. He's one of them.
The very idea that a transgender person's sexual identity is pretense is socially offensive and scientifically offensive. Referring to a transgender woman as a grown man is unapologetic bigotry. Then to suggest that a transgender person poses a threat to children is outrageous. Even in the GOP political extreme it should be unacceptable. It is not. This isn't just political hyperbole. Rather, this is targeting a very small minority for abuse in order to pander to ignorant right wing Christians for political advantage. It is disgraceful. Cruz is disgraceful. No class.

Cruz's attack reminds me of slightly different narrative. The “Homosexual Agenda” used to mean the supposed fierce determination of gay males to molest young boys. If someone was a father in the Bible Belt that meant his boys. These days the agenda generally means the plans outlined in an obscure book by gay authors that only conservative Christians seem to have read. Yet they still blow the dog whistle from time to time. Proposition 8 was won by convincing people that gays posed a threat to children.

For his part, Mr. Cruz has claimed that the Obergefell ruling would force Christian broadcasters off the air and Christian schools to lose their accreditation. I suppose that the fear of gay people is still on the menu.

I am no fan of Donald Trump (I intend to vote for Clinton). Yet I am very happy to see Trump kick Cruz's ass. Cruz is a mean bully. He deserves to get his ass kicked.
