The problem is not liberals!
The problem is unabated gun violence that could be reduced with common-sense gun safety regulations. Silly me. I happen to think that it would be sort of a good idea to keep guns out of the hands of felons and crazy people.
I really have to question the sincerity of some of our politicians; Ds and Rs. Do they honestly believe that they are crafting good public policy or are they doing the bidding of the NRA for political purposes which usually means to retain an elected government office? We just go from shooting to shooting and nobody does a damned thing to make us safer.
As a victim of gun violence I can attest that, in the competition between two objects to occupy the same space at the same time, the bullet always prevails over flesh. I have read recently of a firestorm of controversy over taking one hopelessly brain dead child off of life support because — with sufficient prayer — Jesus might choose to save him. That is a fantasy. The reality is that nearly 1,500 children younger than 18 years of age die from shootings every year. Our books are out of balance and nobody seems to give a damn.
Gun manufacturers finance the NRA. They also know that a dependable portion of their profits is related to commerce in weapons bought in the Southeast for consumption by criminals on city streets elsewhere. Is it really so terrible — so goddamned liberal to put lives ahead of profits?
In this observer's opinion we need to replace a government that works only for moneyed special interests with a government that works for the citizens. There's an old tale that the greatest trick of the Devil is convincing people that he does not exist. That's BS but the greatest trick of the Republican Party in America is getting people to vote against their own interests. It is maddeningly frustrating. They do not seem educable. All we can do is to try to pull more levers every November than they do.
