This is rich - Tony Perkins accuses President Obama of "cherry-picking from the Bible"

Wednesday evening, Tony Perkins, leader of the anti-gay hate group Family Research Council, sent out an email to supporters begging for money. The title of the email is “Cherry-picking from the Bible doesn't make it right!” As part of his pitch, Perkins asks “If We Don't Stand Up to the Left, Who Will?” Eventually Perkins complains:
The Supreme Court's Obergefell decision forcing same-sex marriage on the entire nation has emboldened liberal, left-wing, and "progressive" groups like never before. If we do not stand up to them, who will?
[…]
Shockingly, though, the president actually refers to the Bible-cherry-picking from the Sermon on the Mount-as justification for his support for same-sex marriage and allowing individuals who identify as transgendered into any bathroom!
Here is what President Obama said:
My reading of Scripture tells me that that Golden Rule is pretty high up there in terms of my Christian belief.
The President is correct about the Golden Rule and, yes, it is cherry picking but Mr. Perkins does the same thing every single day. Perkins is a literalist. He believes that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. That's a problem because God doesn't always give guidance that is consistent with our collective values.

We are not murdering insolent children or brides who are not virgins or people who work on the Sabbath. We do not kill gays, witches, people who don't listen to priests or fortune tellers. Nor do we murder non-believers and adulterers—and I am just getting started. Just to stay out of jail Perkins has to use selective observation.

And just what is selective observation? It is cherry-picking of course. Using what you like—discarding the rest.
