Will Peter Thiel exploit a unique opportunity?

Peter Thiel will be speaking at the Republican National Convention. Mr. Thiel, who is the founder of PayPal and gay, will be speaking in prime time on Thursday evening. Thiel is a willing participant in a deception. He has only been given a slot, it seems, in order to demonstrate that the GOP is not anti-LGBT—in spite of having the most anti-LGBT platform in the party's history.

Thiel, a conservative libertarian (historically, he was a Ron Paul supporter), underwrote GOProud and was responsible for inviting Ann Coulter to perform for the organization at his Manhattan apartment. Thiel has turned the $55 million he received when eBay purchased PayPal into billions of dollars. He is a very smart guy. Undoubtedly he knows that he is being used.

While Thiel's foundation doesn't seem to fund LGBT organizations (in 2014), Thiel provided Hulk Hogan with approximately $10 million in expenses to sue Gawker. Gawker was responsible for outing Thiel in 2007. I admit it. I think that Thiel is a schmuck.

You will be pleased to know that Trump's campaign manager, Paul Manafort, said that Peter Thiel's speech has nothing to do with his “sexual preference.” When it comes to gay people, Republicans manage to fuck up even the basics.

Peter Thiel has never addressed the RNC before. The question is; will he further alienate the LGBT community or will he be honest in his speech with regard to the hateful platform? If Mr. Thiel is there to praise Trump-Pence and the business values of the Republican Party while overlooking things like marriage discrimination and support for reparative therapy then he will be a disgrace. Frankly, that is what I expect but, at the same time, I can hope to be surprised.
