Crackpot claims that three-year-olds are receiving sex reassignment surgery-UPDATED

Carmen Fowler Laberge
Carmen Fowler Laberge, president of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, claims that children as young as three are being surgically transitioned in Australia. According to her piece in the Christian Post, titled; “ Children Now Being Allowed to Choose Genital Mutilation, Assisted Suicide:”
First, in Australia, children are demanding — and receiving — sex transition treatment, including the surgical mutilation of otherwise healthy sexual organs. Child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg told The Daily Telegraph that 250 children as young as three were being assisted by the gender dysphoria unit at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital.
Yes, you read that right: 250 children as young as three. One four year old is highlighted in the discussion about the surgery. Again, yes, you read that right, four years old.

One gynecologist referenced in the piece, herself a transgender person, Dr. Rosemary Jones, believes that four is a "good age" and that "parents who have any sense can usually pick it." That statement reveals the redefinition of "good," and also the concept of "sense" and nonsense.
Children are not candidates for sex reassignment surgery. The only exception that I am aware of is intersex newborns. Children being treated for gender dysphoria does not mean that they are being surgically transitioned. I cannot read the piece she cites because it requires a subscription which I am not going to indulge. I'll add that puberty blockers and hormones are administered very cautiously and only with the fully informed consent of the teen and his or her parents.

Update: I was able to contact Dr. Rosemary Jones who is (mis)quoted by Laberge who writes: “Gender identity is located in the child's brain and so tinkering with their external genitalia is pointless and these days would be regarded as malpractice.” Ergo my take on this is correct with one exception. Dr. Jones informs me that surgery is no longer being performed on newborn intersex children. I stand corrected and will look into the matter further since it affects a number of people — perhaps as many as two out of every 1,000 children.

Laberge goes on to cite “the American College of Pediatric Physicians” which is really the American College of Pediatricians which is really a minuscule anti-LGBT hate group. The real professional organization is the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Note: The Christian Lay Committee is located in Franklin, TN. Revenues for 2014 were $837,216. There are some anomalies in the tax return but I am not going to bother. The piece in the Christian Post incorrectly claims that she is the president of the Christian Law Committee.
