For more moronic morose bigotry we go to Florida

Yanicka Parker
In a complaint filed in federal court in Miami, Yanicka Parker claims that she was employed by the Broward County Clerk of Courts for 12 years. Parker claims that she was terminated for her religious beliefs which required her to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. According to Parker:
God will judge individual Christians, as well as the society of which they are a part, who condone or institute same sex marriages.
Parker claims that she received an email from Broward County Clerk of Courts Howard Forman, informing her that all clerks were expected to issue marriage licenses and perform ceremonies for same sex couples. Parker said that she could not and requested an accommodation. It was denied. Parker told Forman that she could not perform the duties that were required of her. She was suspended for two days and then terminated.

I am reasonably certain that Parker made sure that she wasn't licensing the marriages of divorcees, those who engaged in premarital sex, adulterers and so on. Suppose she objected to Jewish men marrying Christian women? Parker seems to be conflating her routine administrative functions with approval. If she was unable to perform her duties then she was in the wrong job and should have given two weeks notice.

Parker is represented by Todd Shulby who is a graduate of St. Thomas University School of Law. The third-tier school has rather dismal bar passage and employment rates.

If anyone is aggrieved in this situation it is gay people. They have to hear, yet again, that some self-righteous jerk thinks that they are second-class citizens. It is all getting rather tedious.
