James Dobson is a confused rube

James Dobson
According to James Dobson on Thursday, Donald Trump's comments about women were awful but Bill Clinton did much worse. I must be misinformed because it is my understanding that Bill Clinton is not on the ballot and that Hillary Clinton is the ultimate victim of Bill's infidelities.

Michael Haverluck at American Family Association's “news” blog writes:
“I do not condone nor defend Donald Trump’s terrible comments made 11 years ago,” the founder of Family Talk declared, according to WND. “They are indefensible and awful. I’m sure there are other misdeeds in his past, although as Jesus said, ‘Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.’”
That sure sounds like Dobson condoning something. He then goes on to defend Trump.
“I am, however, more concerned about America’s future than Donald Trump’s past,” continued Dobson, who founded Focus on the Family back in 1977. “I wonder about how Bill Clinton’s language stands up in private.”
I am not going to get suckered into comparing Bill Clinton to Donald Trump because it is irrelevant. Shall we compare philanthropy? Record in public service? Non-profit endeavors? Every day, Bill Clinton does more for others, without personal benefit, than Trump has done in a lifetime.

Apparently Roe v. Wade never happened:

“Donald Trump is pro-life,” the Colorado-based ministry leader stressed. “Clinton and his wife disrespect the Constitution of the United States, although Trump has promised to protect it – especially the First Amendment. Shall I go on?”
Oh do go on to explain the insult to the Constitution. Sec. Clinton (she is the one on the ballot) seems to have more respect for the Establishment Clause than Dobson possesses. Dobson should also be corrected. Trump claims to be opposed to reproductive choice. Trump's true inclinations are entirely unknown. The man is also a pathological liar. So much so that even Trump might not know what Trump really thinks about any given issue.

Here is the Politifact comparison of truthfulness:

Those numbers speak for themselves. What about Dobson's support for a serial liar? Whatever happened to that “false witness” thing?

Ah, but Jimmy doesn't like Sec. Clinton:

“[My endorsement was partly due to] my great concern about Hillary Clinton,” Dobson said earlier in Trump’s presidential campaign, according to WND. “I am supporting Mr. Trump primarily because I believe he is the most capable candidate to lead the United States of America in this complicated hour.”
Did Dobson say that with a straight face. What? Based on the proficient campaign that Trump has run? Trump has yet to be specific about much of anything. When will it occur to Dobson that Trump is not specific because he is unable to be specific. He doesn't understand any of the issues. Furthermore, does Dobson feel safe as a Christian because Trump has promised to persecute another religion — Muslims? Running this country is a tad more complicated than opposing reproductive choice. In spite of Trump's delusions, one cannot preside over the United States by edict. There are co-equal branches of government (Congress and the courts) to contend with.

Enter gay marriage:

Dobson, who also would like Trump to lead the fight for natural marriage and against same-sex “marriage,” expressed his belief this summer that the billionaire is truly a Christian.
It seems to me that the matter has been settled. There is only one reason to entertain a reversal of Obergefell v. Hodges and that is to satisfy some tight-assed, self-righteous Christians. What would these people even argue in briefs were an opportunity to come along? That some state and municipal laws require bakers to make a wedding cake for a gay couple? Perhaps Trump knows how someone would have Article III standing to challenge Obergefell in the first place. Someone has to make a reasonable claim that they have been injured by same-sex marriage and the injury must be real in contrast to hypothetical. Then they have to successfully argue that the only way to redress the injury is to reverse Obergefell. How is that going to work. Maybe Dobson can inquire of Trump for a coherent plan.

Trump as true believer?

“After a meeting between evangelicals and Trump, Dobson also said he believed Trump has come ‘to accept a relationship with Christ,’ repented of his sins and been ‘born-again,’ Unruh informed. “But he said Trump probably was not a mature Christian.”

Apparently Dobson is unable to appreciate getting played. If Dobson believes that Trump is a committed, born-again Christian then Dobson is dumber than a doughnut. Other than pandering for some black votes in Detroit, is Trump even a church-goer? At the end of the day Dobson is nothing but a culture warrior. Were he more concerned about honor, dignity and integrity he would not be making these absurd arguments in support of a sociopath who demonstrates daily that he would be incompetent as President of the United States.
