Manhattan Nondiscrimination Ordinance Goes Into Effect Tuesday
Confusion: According to Wikipedia, the cities of Lawrence, Topeka, and Roeland Park prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment. The county of Shawnee prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation only in public employment. I can find no such protections in the Topeka municipal code. The Lawrence ordinance is ambiguous and may not be actionable. In contrast Roeland Park's nondiscrimination protections extend to sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing and public accommodations. Online versions of municipal code are not necessarily current.
