Seasons greetings Mr. Wildmon

Tim Wildmon
Hate group leader Tim Wildmon of American Family Association contributed a piece to his local newspaper titled Hope Springs Eternal. It invites commentary through email. I thought that I would oblige:
Dear Mr. Wildmon:

I want to quote one passage from your thoughtful piece:
But the people I most admire are those who have had terrible, things happen to them; yet they get through those difficult times and maintain hope for a better day tomorrow by trusting in God.
Among terrible things that people endure is the antipathy that you project towards gay children and their parents. While you have made their lives more terrible there is not one less gay person in the world because of your disapproval. Not one. The same can be said of the transgender children who have become your favorite hobby of late. Have you considered for one second the uphill climb in life that they must commit to while you are smearing them as predatory molesters?

Most of these kids will survive childhood (although you do have some blood on your hands). Some will be people of faith. Overall, they are some of the most courageous people I know. They will become doctors and lawyers, cops and firemen, machinists and CEOs. They will still be gay or trans and they will make valuable and positive contributions to society. Some will also become parents and by all accounts they will probably do a pretty good job of raising kids. Their children will also suffer at your hands because you demonize their parents.

I am not a Christian but I do not think that Christ would have wanted his teachings used as a blunt force instrument of hate. Do you really want to pass this along to your children?

I am a retired CEO and have learned to greatly appreciate introspection in myself and others. Perhaps this holiday season you will consider some of the damage that you have done. If you are really an honorable man perhaps you will consider how you might mitigate at least some of the harm that you have inflicted on others. I doubt that you will do either. That gives you the opportunity to prove me a cynic.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.
