As you may know, NOM is playing a critical role in mobilizing a worldwide coalition of organizations and countries that have come together to issue a global decree in support of marriage. Called the Cape Town Declaration, pro-marriage supporters in more than 100 countries are organizing their citizens to stand for the universal truth of marriage by signing the Declaration. As used, the word “critical” relates to being a turning point or specially important juncture in an endeavor. Getting a horde of the faithful to sign what amounts to an affirmation of faith isn't likely to alter policy anywhere. It is already assumed that conservative Christians oppose marriage equality. We also assume that conservative Jews don't eat pork. Yet it is available for consumption in every country on the planet (including Israel). The idea that this is somehow historic is ridiculous.
Please add your name to the historic Cape Town Declaration in support of marriage. NOM urges all our supporters to sign this critical document.
It’s a worldwide response to the distorted, destructive views of marriage and family that have grown more prevalent among elites in the United States and other mostly western nations. Signers of the Declaration acknowledge that marriage is the heart of any just social order, and pledge to resist the cultural imperialism of western nations who seek to force the agenda of same-sex ‘marriage’ on other countries. That's a recitation of the losing arguments before the United States Supreme Court. Noticeably missing is any reference to an actual consequence of same-sex marriage in any country where it is legally recognized. The Catholic Church does not approve of gay people. Therefore, the Church does not approve of same-sex marriage. It is in the same realm as calling transgender people confused. These are statements of faith rather than anything based on evidence.
The document resides on an OpusFidelis website. The Catholic organization manages, or used to manage, NOM's social media presence.
