When asked about how a privacy-protecting bill could influence NFL operations in the state, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy responded that “[i]f a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there, that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events.”That might pass muster in conservative Christian circles but not among better informed critical thinkers. Transgender access is just that. It is an accommodation for a very small portion of the population that is transgender. To suggest that such access amounts to men and women sharing locker rooms and showers is misleading. It is a deliberate lie. That bearing false witness thing doesn't seem compelling when mendacity is useful.
But commonsense separation of the sexes sure seems to be an NFL value. After all, you don’t see NFL players and cheerleaders sharing locker rooms and showers do you? Of course not. It would be a gross violation of the cheerleaders’ and players’ privacy.
And by the way, how does Mayer know, for example, that one of the cheerleaders isn't transgender? After all, there was that sexy Bond Girl who is trans.
The biggest problem with anti-trans bills might be that they are targeted at school children. Trans adults have used gender appropriate facilities for decades and do so generally unnoticed. Anti-trans proponents usually highlight trans girls claiming that they pose a threat to other children which they probably know is misleading. Ultimately, they find the existence of trans and gay people to be an inconvenient challenge to their faith. According to their book everyone is created heterosexual and cisgender.
What they seek to accomplish by isolating and marginalizing trans kids is anyone's guess. Do they believe that this will cause so much as one child to not be trans? Laws like the one pending in Texas are one big lie in that they have no real secular purpose. These are merely conservative Christian constructs with a stated non-religious purpose that is nonsensical. Ms. Mayer is quite capable of parroting “private spaces.” Perhaps she believes that to be the truth just as she probably believes the creation fairy tale.
