Remember Joe Maldonado, the trans Cub Scout?

Joe and mom Kristie Maldonado
More good has come to Joe Maldonado.

Joe Maldonado is that fabulously brave kid who just wanted to have some fun by joining the Cub Scouts. Then the boy was thrown out because he was transgender. Things changed recently. Joe and his terrific mother, Kristie, are probably responsible for the Boy Scouts of America changing its policy.

Well now the Northern New Jersey Council has settled a state human rights complaint with two stipulations:
  1. A payment of $18,000 to Joe and;
  2. A formal apology.
They have done both. Effie Delimarkos, director of communications for the Boy Scouts of America, issued a statement saying the organization is “happy to welcome Joe and the Maldonado family back into the Scouting community. Moving forward, the BSA will continue to work to bring the benefits of our programs to as many children, families and communities as possible.”

For the rest of his life Joe will remember that he changed the face of Scouting for the better. We should all be proud of Joe and his mom. they fought the good fight and they won! We all won!

I bet Todd Starnes feels like a jerk. Come to think of it, probably not.
