According to House Bill 780, the “Uphold Historical Marriage Act” the Supreme Court “overstepped its constitutional bounds” in its 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges which effected national same-sex marriage. It is the usual Tea Party “Tenther” nonsense:
Whereas, the enumerated powers of the federal government, as outlined in the
United States Constitution, do not include the authority or power to establish laws concerning
marriage; and
Whereas, it is, therefore, clear that laws concerning marriage are for each state to establish and maintain severally and independently; and
Whereas, the People of the State of North Carolina approved the Marriage Amendment of 2012, which is now included as Section 6 of Article XIV of the North Carolina Constitution, with a 61% affirmative vote; and …
Sponsors are Larry G. Pitman, Michael Speciale and Carl Ford. Presumably none of these wizards knows about Cooper v. Aaron. In the wake of Brown v. Board of Education Arkansas tried to frustrate desegregation with the same type of legislation. In a unanimous decision the Court held that the Supremacy Clause makes the Constitution the law of the land. Marbury v. Madison makes the Supreme Court the final arbiter of the Constitution. Therefore, states are obligated to obey and enforce the rulings of the Court even if they disagree with them.Whereas, it is, therefore, clear that laws concerning marriage are for each state to establish and maintain severally and independently; and

Therefore, the only point of this bill is to denigrate gay citizens and taxpayers. Don't these geniuses have anything better to do with their time?
