Conservative Christian parents in Mass. nuts over sexual diversity sex-ed

Last week the Massachusetts Senate passed S.2113, the Healthy Youth Act by a vote of 31-6. This was despite the best efforts of Republican Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr to derail the bill. Tarr tried to add a required parental opt-in to the bill. That amendment failed although parental opt-out is available. What seems to have gotten them very upset is this portion:
… (vi) age-appropriate information about gender identity and sexual orientation for all students, including affirmative recognition that people have different sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions and information about resources that offer support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students. Sexual health education may incorporate opportunities for students to analyze societal and media messages.
There are two parts to this. The first is making all students understand sexual diversity. The second is making LGBT students aware of support and resources. The conservative Christians object to both. They want their children to pretend that LGBT people do not really exist. Moreover, many are wed to the belief that this kind of information could cause their straight-cis kids to turn into Richard Simmons or Caitlyn Jenner.

Children who are opted out by parents are probably the most in need of this information. Their absence is detrimental to the health and wellbeing of everyone else.

Opponents are hoping that this bill dies in the House (a similar bill did not come up for a vote two years ago). Bob Kellogg — one of American Family Association's morons — informs us:
Andrew Beckwith of the Massachusetts Family Institute says it would wrench control of the curriculum – largely supplied by Planned Parenthood – away from parents and give sole discretion as to how this will be taught to state bureaucrats.

"This will set up a paradigm with parents," the family advocate explains. "If they object to what's being taught, if they go to local teachers, local school committees or local administrators and complain, those educators will just throw their hands up in the air, point back to the State Department of Education, and say, It's the law. We can't do anything about it."
I am surprised that he did not blame George Soros in addition to Planned Parenthood. If they do not like what's being taught in the public schools they can always make their kids as stupid as they are through home schooling.
