LiMandri: I was right all along about same-sex marriage

Charles LiMandri
Charles LiMandri excuses his bigotry with religious belief (he professes to be an ultra-conservative Catholic). LiMandri predicted that marriage equality would bring civil war to the United States. Gay marriage was always an end-of-world proposition. We are more than two years post-Obergefell and not much has happened in the way of revolt or the world coming to an end but that doesn't stop Charles LiMandri from claiming otherwise.

LiMandri's dipsie is titled: “Same-sex ‘marriage’: Religious right was right all along.” After some preliminaries with the usual rhetoric:

End-of-World, Part 1

In just two years since that disastrous decision, everything that we had warned about has come to pass, and more. First, homosexuality has been normalized, and now the act of sodomy is even being promoted to teenage girls by a popular magazine.
Homosexuality was already quite normal and has been for as long as the earth has been populated with people. Chuck lost me after that. LiMandri is referring to a piece in Teen Vogue about the right way to have anal sex. Anal sex wasn't being “promoted” but LiMandri is correct that the piece was aimed at teenage girls. Generally speaking anal sex requires that at least one of the participants has a penis. Therefore, what was described is a heterosexual activity. None of this has even the most tenuous connection to Obergefell or same-sex marriage for that matter.

Did they predict that a consequence of same-sex marriage would be girls having anal sex with their boyfriends? I cannot recall.

End-of-World, Part 2

Second, the concept of gender itself is being destroyed as children are encouraged to "choose" between whether they want to be either a boy or girl, or neither. School boys, masquerading as girls, are now using the girls' bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers, and vice versa. See the numerous articles and studies in the "News" and "Resources" Section of this website.
The concept of gender is being destroyed? Because a very small percentage of the population has gender dysphoria. And this has some relevance to same-sex marriage? What would that be? And precisely when did they claim that gender identity would be more prominent because of same-sex marriage? Was that in any of the amicus briefs? I cannot recall.

As long as I am at it, no child is being encouraged to choose a gender. That is just hyperbolic rhetoric along with the kids masquerading as the opposite sex. These are children with a carefully diagnosed condition that is potentially very dangerous to them. No trans or gender nonconforming kid raised their hand to volunteer.

That website link is to a Catholic outlet promoting transphobia.

End-of-World, Part 3

Third, those who oppose same-sex "marriage" and sexual anarchy on religious grounds, are being marginalized and penalized for their sincerely held beliefs. See the dozens of examples in Sections 3 and 4 of this Religious Discrimination Report.
Ah, gotta have some victims. For all the noise it is the same two bakers, the same florist and the same photographer that they have been trotting out for as far back as 11 years ago. Enough already. They did claim that there would be lots of victims. Most of their examples were self-created before Obergefell and there simply aren't that many wedding vendors turning down marriage events because of religious disapproval. The overwhelming majority seem to welcome the additional revenue stream.

End-of-World, Part 4

Fourth, marriage rates overall are in a state of serious decline. And those rates are even lower for same-sex couples.
What this schmuck is saying is that because gays can marry heterosexual couples opt not to. I concede that they did, in fact, make this argument in briefs. It made no sense then and it makes no sense now. Moreover, we do not really know the marriage rate of gay couples. Most states do not separate the data; marriage is marriage. Even if we did, it is irrelevant. they never claimed that a consequence of same-sex marriage would be that fewer gays would marry than straights. That manages to make even less sense than LiMandri's other claims.

End-of-World, Part 5

These events dramatically illustrate something else we warned about: same-sex "marriage" was never really about marrying the person you "love." Rather, it was always about pushing for the complete societal acceptance of virtually all forms of deviant sexual practices. This even includes sado-masochism, as depicted in the blockbuster film [50 Shades of Grey].
What LiMandri calls events are not and his little list demonstrates absolutely nothing. Yes, they warned that marriage equality had some sinister purpose other than simply marrying the person one loves. They were wrong then and they are wrong now. The existence of 50 Shades of Grey has no reasonable correlation to same-sex marriage. The very reference is preposterous. LiMandri disapproves of a film. Don't watch it! There is no evidence that same-sex marriage has had any effect on sexual morality.

Societal acceptance? One thing LiMandri should have learned by now is that we neither seek nor require his approval for anything. Conservative Christians are wed to this notion of seeking their acceptance as a means of overstating their own individual importance. It absolutely devastates them when we say “we don't care about your approval.”

LiMandri believes that gay people are “objectively disordered.” That belief is his problem and his alone. Embracing superstition over science is something that is objectively disordered. LiMandri suffers from the collective ignorance and stupidity that dates back to the Bronze Age.

The World has Ended

Hence, the religious ideal of a traditional marriage between a man and a woman, consisting of lifelong fidelity and the raising of children, is no longer recognized as worth pursuing by many in our society. And as the militant left celebrates perversity and the decline of the nuclear family, the foundation of our society is crumbling all around us.
The word “hence” means “for the previously stated reasons.” LiMandri hasn't stated any remotely applicable reasons for anything. The Catholic Church disapproves of gay people and therefore their marriages. Absent any critical thinking LiMandri goes with the flow and now he desires to prove something by simply saying he proved it — without actually having done so. The arrogance is surpassed only by the bigotry.

Again, LiMandri is restating the central theme of the Catholic amicus briefs in Obergefell and previously in Windsor. It is the absurd notion that same-sex marriage has some mystical effect on traditional marriage. It was never more than a manufactured consequence of same-sex marriage. Its designer was probably Robert P. George re-transmitted by Ryan T. Anderson. It failed to persuade anyone because it is obviously a ridiculous claim. It was unsupportable then and completely lacking in evidence now.

If anything the full legalization of same-sex marriage has disproved the ample and wild claims of the religious crackpots. Nothing much has happened other than some gay people tying the knot. No traditional marriage was harmed in the production of those events.
