The hate group's little helpers and enablers

(L-R) John Ramey Diggs, Michelle Cretella, Paul Church
Three physicians have endorsed a book written by MassResistance, an anti-LGBT hate group. The three doctors are John Diggs, Michelle Cretella and Paul Church. The book is titled The Health Hazards of Homosexuality. Hate group leader Brian Camenker calls the book “groundbreaking.” in spite of its obviously mediocre scholarship. The simple fact of the matter is that there is only one health hazard associated with sex — gay or straight. Unprotected sex can lead to the transmission of disease.

You would think that three doctors would realize that there are no inherent dangers to sex. There is no reasonably current peer-reviewed research published to a scholarly journal that asserts otherwise. These folks are not interested in science. In contrast, their endorsement of a scientifically unsound publication really endorses religious opprobrium of people they do not approve of. The trio are conservative Christians who believe that sex outside marriage is sinful and that marriage means one man wed to one woman.

Whatever integrity these three might have had is sacrificed to a defense of the faith which seeks to marginalize a sexual minority. The three will resent being called bigots but that is exactly what they are. They, in their self-righteousness, are willfully spreading hate for, and false information about, gay people.

John Diggs

John Ramey Diggs
MassResistance refers to Dr. John Ramey Diggs as a prominent internist. Were that true he would be board certified. He is not board certified in any specialty. There exists an embarrassment of riches when it comes to Diggs' crackpottery. Diggs insists that MassResistance's claim that there are more ex-gays than gays is true. There seem to be far more ex-ex-gays than ex-gays but why quibble?

Diggs wrote a book (more of a pamphlet) titled The Health Risks of Gay Sex. According to Diggs, we are diseased, unstable, psychotic, promiscuous sadists with the lifespan of a fruit fly. In reality, Diggs is stating that being gay is a health risk. Even he is incapable of linking our supposed conditions to gay sex. This is about disapproval of gay people masked as disapproval of gay sex.

His conclusion reads:
It is clear that there are serious medical consequences to same-sex behavior. Identification with a GLB community appears to lead to an increase in promiscuity, which in turn leads to a myriad of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and even early death. A compassionate response to requests for social approval and recognition of GLB relationships is not to assure gays and lesbians that homosexual relationships are just like heterosexual ones, but to point out the health risks of gay sex and promiscuity. Approving same-sex relationships is detrimental to employers, employees and society in general.
Needless to say, the US Chamber of Commerce has not adopted this meme of  gay people being “detrimental to employers.” What is really clear is that Diggs wants to turn the clock back to when society did not approve of gay people. Ironically (or maddening depending upon your point of view), the spread of HIV early on would have been far more contained in a more open society. With fewer gay men (some of whom were married) leading covert lives, far more people would have been tested.

It must drive people like Diggs insane that we are in happy, stable marriages and we are raising healthy and happy children. The world's largest corporation (Apple) is headed by an openly gay man who is presumably pretty stable. Diggs has highly accomplished colleagues who are gay — and trans. He probably deals with gay people every day.

People like Diggs kept me in the closet for most of my career. I ended up running a 200+ employee organization. Had I been able to be open about my sexuality; had I not been driven neurotic by the disapproval and had I not believed some of the BS, I could have, and should have, accomplished much more. It saddens me greatly. It also pisses me off — greatly. There still exist people who believe the BS and suffer from shame at the hands of these sanctimonious blowhards. Our collective job is to enlighten people, particularly our youth. But I digress.

Michelle Cretella

Michelle Cretella is the President of a small hate group, the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds). This should not be confused with the real professional peer group, the American Academy of Pediatrics. Cretella is not currently licensed to practice medicine.

Cretella has served on the Board of NARTH and is an advocate of gay conversion therapy, sometimes called reparative therapy. There is absolutely no scientific basis for reparative therapy. All of the mainstream professional peer groups warn that it is ineffective and potentially toxic. It rests on the notion that gay people (now transgender people too) are broken and need to be repaired, along with some mumbo jumbo about distant fathers and overbearing mothers (which would apply to a great many straight people). In other words, Cretella, in spite of her medical degree is a crackpot pushing snake oil.

Lately Cretella has been on an anti-transgender tear. She is a staunch defender of the Catholic faith. Thus, the amateur psychiatrist knows as Pope Francis is more authoritative regarding gender dysphoria than any of the dedicated clinicians and researchers. It is simply outrageous that a doctor would parrot nonsense about “gender ideology.” Cretella also filed a bizarre affidavit two weeks ago in support of the case aimed at invalidating marriage equality in Mississippi (Gunter v. Bryant). The case was brought by Chris Sevier who was disbarred in 2011 due to his mental impairment.

According to Cretella, MassResistance's book:
is the single most comprehensive collection of scientific data from authoritative scientific sources on this topic. Health Hazards cites research from the Centers for Disease Control, the Institute of Medicine, the American Psychological Association, and many other “mainstream” medical and mental health organizations to document the reality that the homosexual lifestyle is inherently harmful – and even deadly.
Note that we have gone from the risks of gay sex to the inherent dangers of The Homosexual Lifestyle™ which is presumably as dictated by The Homosexual Agenda©. Being gay is not unhealthy. Discrimination is unhealthy. Every one of those “mainstream medical and mental health organizations” asserts that being gay is innate and a natural variant of human sexuality. Using selective observation of research I can probably “prove” that peanut butter is rocket fuel.

Paul Church

Two years ago this week, Paul Church was the victim du jour of the homosexual agenda.  After four years of investigation and the disciplinary process, Church was dismissed from his position at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Church, a urologist, decided that is would be a good idea to share his views on homosexuality with his colleagues, some of whom are LGBT and most of whom accept the settled science on sexual orientation. Some of his commentary was sent in mass emails while some was posted to public electronic bulletin boards.

On gay pride celebrations:

Celebrating sexual perversions is highly inappropriate, especially in the context of a medical center that should be aware of the negative health consequences of high risk behaviors. It also ignores and dishonors the religious convictions and moral objections that many members of the hospital community share who are opposed to these behaviors.
And:
The evidence is irrefutable that behaviors common within the homosexual community are unhealthy and high risk for a host of serious medical consequences, including STD's, HIV and AIDS, anal cancer, hepatitis, parasitic intestinal infections, and psychiatric disorders.
And:
Life expectancy is significantly decreased as a result of HIV/AIDS, complications from the other health problems, and suicide. This alone should make it reprehensible to the medical community, who has an obligation to promote and model healthy behaviors and lifestyles.
Church retained the services of the brilliant legal minds at Liberty Counsel, a hate group. I am simply shocked that they were unable to reverse the decision of the hospital. Last July he was also terminated by Brigham & Women's Hospital:

It is simply unacceptable that three doctors are enablers of discrimination and the promotion of false information about LGBT people. It is also highly unprofessional. They are at odds with the medical and scientific communities in order to defend their religions. We look up to doctors. We are predisposed to rely on their judgment and professional integrity. These three are a shame to the profession.
