Hate group: Disney's gay teen makes a show "adult content"

Andi Mack is a popular teen comedy-drama airing on the Disney Channel. The current season includes a gay kid which means, of course, that the teen show is unsuitable for teens. At least that is what the prudes and hate mongers at American Family Association seem to think.

According to Bill Bumpas (yet another porn name) at AFA's faux-news blog:
Parents are being warned that a Disney Channel series has introduced the network's first “gay” character – in hopes, according to the show's creator, of “attract[ing] an older audience.”
People are warned when there is a potential danger. What, I wonder, is the danger of a gay kid on a teen program? Does Mr. Bumpas believe that teens can be influenced to be gay or that they can be victimized by subliminal messages transmitted at a secret wave-length known only to subscribers to The Homosexual Agenda™?
“This is not a subtle character, this is not subtle hints like they've been known to do in the past, but this will be a main character on the program,” reports 1MM director Monica Cole.
Oh fucking my! This is an unambiguously gay character (like kids already know from school). “Quick Sarah! Hide the remote. Better yet, hide the kids!” “1MM” is One Million Moms which is nothing more than an American Family Association website and Facebook entry.

Here is the best part of this diatribe:
There's no more “skirting around the issue,” says Cole, referring to the network's decision to pursue such programming.

“They're blatantly pushing an agenda and airing inappropriate, adult content on a children's network,” she tells OneNewsNow. “So they're not only steering clear away from family-friendly entertainment, but they're sacrificing children's innocence in the process.”
“OneNewsNow” is just AFA's fake news blog. This is AFA talking to itself. It is quite clear that Monica Cole is a few watts short of noticeable illumination. There is nothing to skirt around. Gay kids exist. They make up 3% to 5% of every school in America. Cole is also a bigot. Apparently the very presence of a gay character makes the program unsuitable.

However, the ultimate indicator of bigotry is the idea that  just knowing that there are gay people threatens the “innocence” of children. In that context innocence means purity or free of corruption. If Ms. Cole actually thinks that a gay character on a TV show makes a teen viewer impure or corrupt then that is the product of conservative Christian conceit. I also question Ms. Cole's sanity in making such a claim. It also presupposes that a gay child is impure per se.

This evokes another idiotic petition that will influence TV producers about as much the re-emergence of Joe the Plumber (remember him?):

Cole adds that in hopes of keeping “other shows from introducing gay characters, we need to speak up now.” Toward that end, she urges parents to voice their displeasure with the Disney Channel decision by signing her group's online petition.

The first paragraph of the petition reads:
Alerting all parents! Additional controversial content will be included in the Disney Channel show “Andi Mack” during season two, premiering Friday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT. 1MM earlier warned parents this program is not suitable for a kids’ network, and now the show is introducing the network’s first gay character.
In the end it is the same old crap that makes AFA a designated hate group. To quote Ms. Cole, this is not subtle. This one brief piece says it all. According to American Family Association the homosexual agenda exists to recruit children into a “lifestyle.” Therefor, (aside from the spectacularly stupid notion that sexual orientation is a choice) gay adults pose a threat to children. AFA will be designated a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center in perpetuity.

Who and what poses the real danger to children? Gay people or AFA?
