AFA's hate extends to immigrants

Tim Wildmon
Hate group leader Tim Wildmon - America Family Association
Monday, American Family Association has taken to its phony news blog (via Michael F. Haverluck) to undermine DACA with an assist from another hate group. AFA is extremely Christian when it suits them, particularly when it comes to discriminating against LGBT folks. They do not seem to have Christian concerns for the well being of immigrant children,

The headline reads: “Dreamers: 25% illiterate, half speak little English.” Those numbers supposedly come from “research” performed by the nativist hate group; Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). According to AFA:

Research shows that one in four illegal aliens dubbed as “Dreamers” by former President Barack Obama under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are “functionally illiterate” in English, while nearly half only speak a little English.
Really? Is it a case of one hate group (CIS) not being sufficiently hateful for another hate group (AFA)? According to Steven A. Camarota, research director at CIS:
Hispanic immigrants, who make up some 80 to 90 percent of DACA recipients, recently took an objective test of English literacy, 44 percent of those who said they speak English "well" or "very well" actually scored "below basic" — a level sometimes described as functional illiteracy. Based on test-takers with the required age and residency, I estimate that perhaps 24 percent of the DACA-eligible population fall into the functionally illiterate category and another 46 percent have only "basic" English ability.
An “estimate” that “perhaps” something is true does not constitute “research.” With the caveat that the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, I cannot find any papers published by Camarota published to a mainstream peer-reviewed scholarly journal.

There are two components to nativism. The first, the one expressed by CIS, is the irrational fear that our European roots and culture are being eradicated by immigration. The second is more cynical. Republicans fear that immigrants tend to vote Democratic. That might not be the case if Republicans were a tad less anti-immigrant. In other words they are creating their own problem. The Cubans who were welcomed into this country tend to be Republicans.

Later on AFA claims:
“The research showing a lack of English proficiency among DACA illegal aliens comes as the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report revealing that nearly 1 in 5 illegal aliens eligible for DACA would end up on food stamps within 10 years,” Breitbart News reported.
I cannot find the relevant CBO report and I have left the link to Breitbart intact. It redirects to “Lena Dunham, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Sell Same Number of Books First Week.” Fascinating, no doubt but it doesn't support AFA's claim.

AFA is trying to paint these children as dangerous leaches on society.

Where is the Christian compassion?

AFA and others should be championing the needs of these kids. Let us assume that there is a legitimate problem with literacy. Where is the presidential task-force on teen literacy? It is not an immigrant problem but a national problem. Workplace literacy is deplorable and I am sure that it has gotten worse over the past few years. This is about our ability to compete in the future in a global economy.

I have a cocktail napkin and pen handy. Estimates that I have seen indicate that Trump's idiotic wall would cost $70 billion and then $150 million annually to maintain. Just for the sake of argument let's amortize that wall over 10 years. That's $7 billion per year (un-adjusted for monetary costs and inflation). That's $7.15 billion in total annually between cost and maintenance. That would pay for nearly 100,000 additional teachers to help remedy the real problem which is one of national literacy. Trump's wall doesn't solve any problems.

Some years ago Charlie Rangel told a group of business leaders at a breakfast I attended that the only thing stupider than than a stupid campaign promise is fulfilling the stupid promise.

AFA wants people to be afraid of immigrants:
Dreaming behind bars?

Even though Obama and Congressional Democrats have a history of referring to Dreamers as child prodigies with bright futures who will ascend the educational ladder with “skies the limit” futures and potential, many have been found to not only be a drain on American tax dollars because of a lack of self-sufficiency and language skills, but because of their delinquent behavior.

According to statistics revealed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last year, the federal agency was forced to revoke the eligible status of more than 1,500 DACA recipients due to criminal convictions they had – or because of some type of gang affiliation they had on their records.
That literacy problem extends to the village of idiots that constitute AFA's workforce. That is not “last year.” The report was issued last year but the intended inference is that we are deporting 1,500 DACA recipients annually. Here is what the DHS report says and AFA provides the link:
Under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy, aliens granted deferred action from deportation who are subsequently found to pose a threat to national security or public safety may have their deferred action terminated at any time and DHS may seek their removal from the United States. This includes those who have been arrested or convicted of certain crimes, or those who are associated with criminal gangs. Since the start of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in 2012, approximately 1,500 recipients have had their deferred action terminated due to a criminal conviction, gang affiliation, or a criminal conviction related to gang affiliation.
That represents about a five year total. It also presents the fact that the system works. Is AFA lying, illiterate or … both?

American Family Association is a Christian supremacist hate group. It observes Christianity quite selectively. If what they say is true, I think that Jesus would opt for improving our education system.  Personally, I do not need Jesus (or Moses) to tell me what is right and wrong. Morality is ultimately based on our humanity. AFA is organized for greed and power and that makes them immoral.
