Chelsea Manning

Chelsea Manning
Chelsea Manning, as most of you know, has decided to challenge Ben Cardin, Democratic U.S. senator from Maryland. It seems like a self-promoting stunt as Manning's chances of defeating Cardin in the primary seem slim. Manning is probably struggling with the question of how she will support herself.

The fact that Ms. Manning is transgender does not qualify her to be a U.S. senator. Nor does being transgender disqualify her for any public office. The fact that she leaked confidential documents to WikiLeaks doesn't qualify Ms. Manning for the U.S. Senate. I think that her disclosure raises concerns. Now you may think that we, the public, benefited from some of the information that she made public. I do. Case in point was the Baghdad airstrike which WikiLeaks labeled “Collateral Murder.”

However, the prospect that what does, or does not, remain classified is at the discretion of a self-designated individual is very unsettling. Ms. Manning is no hero. Neither is Edward Snowden. They arrogantly took it upon themselves to make a decision that they had no right to make. They were both reckless and jeopardized our national security. Their commitment to keep secrets secret was not conditioned on their personal approval. Our diplomats, for example, need to know that they can discuss matters openly in cables without fear of disclosure. Foreign policy and national defense require that certain information remain secret.

In the final analysis, Ms. Manning is probably not the person we should hold out as the transgender ideal. More likely, that individual is a law abiding working parent who happens to be transgender. Perhaps it is someone like Delegate Danica Roem, a trans woman who ran for public office in order to oust an incumbent bigot.

The obnoxious Washington Times.

The very conservative outlet owned by the Unification Church cult (the “Moonies”) demonstrated their usual stupidity Tuesday evening:
Chelsea Manning, who used to think she was Bradley Manning, and who was once a private first class in the U.S. Army before he became a traitor, now thinks he can be a U.S. senator from Maryland. Maryland may not be quite that deep shade of blue, but it’s a brave new era in the Democratic Party, where feverish Democrats think Donald Trump is insane and Bradley Manning is a woman because he says he is.
It is petty to use mixed pronouns to demonstrate disapproval of transgender people. The Times then trots out the all too familiar theme that a transgender person is confused. They are confused. The average trans person has more intrinsic faculties than the average Moonie.

Moreover, questions surrounding Trump's mental competency are not limited to “feverish democrats.” Critical thinkers can appreciate the fact that Trump is a pathological liar. Critical thinkers know that Trump demonstrates sociopathic and self-aggrandizing, ego-maniacal tendencies. Ms. Manning has a condition known as gender dysphoria. With gender affirmation (being transgender) she can function quite normally. Mr. Trump does not function normally.

They continue with more suggestions of confusion:
TheyThe incumbent Democrat, Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin, an off-the-shelf conventional liberal who is sometimes confused in his politics but never in his conviction that he is, in fact, a man, writes off the challenge …
Gay conversion crusader and Moonie, Richard Cohen
I am reminded that the Moonies once funded gay conversion nut-job Richard Cohen with a half-million dollars to get support for gay conversion into public schools. Predictably, the project was a failure and Cohen burned through the money. Any group that would fund someone so obviously a crackpot as Richard Cohen is profoundly confused. Believing their own bullshit they actually thought that they could succeed in promoting a thoroughly discredited pseudoscience rejected by the entire medical and counseling establishment. So who is demonstrably confused?
