According to LaBarbera:
It exposes the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) for what it is: a “hate group” and ” and “left-wing, money-grabbing slander machine.”None of that is true of course and this opens up Mr. LaBarbera to some comparisons:
- SPLC files a form 990 annual report with the Internal Revenue Service on time and every year. AFTAH does not. AFTAH is not, and has not been, a nonprofit entity since May 15, 2015.
- Contributions to SPLC are tax deductible. Contributions to AFTAH are not tax deductible because it is now a for-profit corporation.
- SPLC executives receive W-2s In turn they file personal tax returns and pay their fair share. It is doubtful that AFTAH files a W-2 for Mr. LaBarbera. It is equally doubtful that Mr. LaBarbera files accurate and timely tax returns for both himself and the now for-profit AFTAH and that he pays his fair share.
- For some time after his nonprofit status was revoked, LaBarbera was telling AFTAH donors that their contributions were tax deductible — He lied. He is still begging for donations without the necessary disclosure. He hopes to fool people. SPLC? Not a chance.
I wonder if LaBarbera has fraudulently avoided paying sales and use taxes since May 15, 2015. The holier-than-thou conservative Christian doesn't seem to be a very good citizen or a very honest person.
