For dishonest fundraising there is Alliance Defending Freedom

An unsigned email Tuesday afternoon from Alliance Defending Freedom (an anti-LGBT hate group) asks: What about the florist? It continues with a banner (and link to ADF) that reads “Support Barronelle’s legal defense with your gift today.”

They are referring, of course, to Washington florist Barronelle Stutzman who decided in September, 2013 that the flowers she sells could not be used at a same-sex wedding. Stutzman achieved about 18 minutes of fame and ADF has been pimping her for over four years. ADF has raised countless thousands of dollars off of Stutzman.

It seems to me that Stutzman's fate is tied to a ruling by the Supreme Court in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. If the baker loses, Stutzman is done. There is no more legal work that can be done on her behalf. If the baker wins, legal work might depend upon the opinion of the Court.

If the Court remands (sends it back to a lower court) then anything is possible depending upon the circumstances. The bottom line is that ADF cannot assume a requirement for funds to support Stutzman's legal defense until the Supreme Court rules which is probably going to be in late June. Requesting money in advance of the ruling is dishonest.

I am skipping over all of the boo-hoo about how the poor old hag has been so terribly victimized and persecuted for her religious beliefs. The email starts to come to a conclusion with:
We’ve promised to defend Barronelle all the way to the Supreme Court if that’s what it takes to protect her religious freedom. And because of your support, that’s where her case stands today.

When Barronelle lost at the Washington Supreme Court, we appealed her case to the United States Supreme Court. Now, we are waiting to hear whether the high court will grant review in her case.
Right and either way it is unlikely that the Court will hear the case. If the baker wins then ADF will find itself in federal district court, asking them to apply the precedent. If the baker loses, they are done. Why the hell are they asking for money when they admit that they are waiting on the Supreme Court to decide Masterpiece?
