Mat Staver has actually read - and now withdraws support for - FADA

Mat Staver
Mat "Mad Mat" Staver
Hate group leader Mat Staver, of Liberty Counsel, calls the revised First Amendment Defense Act a “Trojan horse.” The bigot that he is, Staver cannot accept a piece of legislation that recognizes the legitimacy of same-sex marriage even though the measure, if passed, would provide a broad license-to-discriminate.

According to Mad Mat:
The original language of the First Amendment Defense Act stated: "Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Federal Government shall not take any discriminatory action against a person, wholly or partially on the basis that such person believes, speaks, or acts in accordance with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage."

However, Sen. Lee insisted the language be amended as follows: "Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Federal Government shall not take any discriminatory action against a person, wholly or partially on the basis that such person speaks, or acts, in accordance with a sincerely held religious belief, or moral conviction, that- (1) marriage is or should be recognized as a union of- (A) one man and one woman; or (B) two individuals as recognized under Federal law; or (2) sexual relations outside marriage are improper" (emphasis added).
Lee might be extremely homophobic but he understands the reality. Without the added language, the bill would be unconstitutional.  Staver is irrationally homophobic. Gay people cause him to become unhinged. Come to think of it, Mad Mat is permanently and persistently unhinged.
Senator Lee's revised FADA version would enshrine in federal law that marriage "IS" or "SHOULD" be between two individuals (of the same-sex as contrasted with the "union of one man and one woman").
I seem to recall that Brian S. Brown took credit for the reintroduction of FADA a day or two ago. Food fight!

It is doubtful that Republicans are capable of passing a bill that recognizes the validity of same-sex marriage in spite of the fact that it accomplishes their discriminatory objective. Hopefully we will have a saner Congress in 2018.
