Mollie Hemingway must be running out of buckets

This seems preferable to an image of Hemingway
Mollie Hemingway at the infinitely unreliable Federalist has been carrying a great deal of water for Trump. She has not done so very successfully including an inadequate attempt on Friday. Hemingway's latest bit of ineptitude is titled: REVEALED: Peter Strzok Had Personal Relationship With Recused Judge In Michael Flynn Case. Ooh! Eureka!

Hemingway goes on to explain:

Newly discovered text messages obtained by The Federalist reveal two key federal law enforcement officials conspired to meet with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) judge who presided over the federal case against Michael Flynn. The judge, Rudolph Contreras, was recused from handling the case just days after accepting the guilty plea of President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser who was charged with making false statements to federal investigators.
Let's see if we can straighten this out. First of all, law enforcement officials meet with judges all the time. That is how warrants get issued. Yes, Judge Rudolph Contreras was selected by Chief Justice John Roberts to serve on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. However, Judge Contreras' primary responsibility is that of a Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. It is in that capacity that he presided over a hearing involving Michael Flynn.

In other words, FISC is irrelevant to the Flynn prosecution. Hemingway refers to FISC because in delusion-and-denial-world there exists a conspiracy theory about that court unfairly targeting Trump which makes no sense at all. In delusion-and-denial-world there will now exist yet another preposterous conspiracy theory that Flynn was somehow persecuted by,… hell, I do not even know who the villain is

Contreras was randomly selected to preside over Flynn's case. After the plea hearing, Contreras recused himself. Hemingway seems to imply that he was recused by someone else. Nonsense. No one knows the reason for Judge Contreras'  recusal. It usually means that a jurist has concluded that he cannot fairly decide matters. It is yet another irony in Trump-World given Trump's complete inability to admit anything about himself or his creepy children.

None of this has the slightest amount of relevance to Flynn's plea which he entered voluntarily. It is laid out in great detail. Flynn admitted that he lied to FBI agents about his dealings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition. Flynn also confessed to making materially false statements in documents filed with the Justice Department pursuant to the Foreign Agents Registration Act relating to his dealings with the government of Turkey.

In the plea agreement, Flynn admits to the specifics; what he lied about and when those events took place. We do not know why Judge Contreras recused himself. He presided over a hearing and about the only decision he made was the date of the next hearing. Sentencing is now the responsibility of Judge Emmet Sullivan who was also randomly selected.

In other words: Mollie Hemingway is grasping at straws made of tissue paper. Either she is in total denial or she is trying to mislead others. It galls me that someone so intellectually bankrupt as Ms. Hemingway does not face more criticism. I guess that Fox News provides a venue where even the most curiously incompetent people are able to thrive.

Things are likely to go downhill from here as the net tightens around Trump. We all know — including Ms. Hemingway — that Trump is a pathological liar. I think that his campaign colluded with agents of the Russian government to rig the presidential election and that Trump knew about it.

Eventually, the faithful are going to have to come to terms with the fact that Trump is not only a dishonest con artist but an arrogant prick who thinks that rules don't apply to him. Some of the water carriers will keep the faith long after it should expire. What worries me is the termination of Mueller. Then what? Mollie will be cheering on that obstruction of justice.

We learned something else about Trump over the past day or so. Trump will seek pointless, even self-destructive, revenge against an imagined adversary. Trump fired Andrew McCabe 48 hours before he would have been fully vested in his pension. That is rather petty, if not cruel, if you ask me and McCabe was entitled to appeal a finding that he was untruthful. Then Trump publicly gloated over the indecency on Twitter.

Consider the irony that a man who can barely speak a sentence without lying about something has someone fired for an untruthful statement in order to get even with a supposed enemy and to create a dishonest pretext for terminating the Mueller investigation.

What must be killing Trump is the fact that he is accustomed to people deferentially claiming to believe his bullshit. Now he has real critics who are not similarly compelled by economic interests. Trump's response to his critics is always “fake news!” And that brings me back to Ms. Hemingway. Fake news indeed.
