The pretext for approving this bill was “religious freedom.” Religious freedom is supposed to pertain to belief — not to conduct. People are free to believe in the sanctity of bowling balls if that is their choice. The Kansas law will enable religious organizations — organizations that are tax-exempt — to impose their religious beliefs on public policy using public funds.
Trump has already packed the federal courts with anti-LGBT Christian zealots who serve life terms. Republicans were also able to steal a Supreme Court seat.
So go ahead. Stay home in November or whine that your “perfect” candidate did not prevail in the primaries. Make sure that you make a visible protest by writing his name on the ballot. Yeah, that will send a message. The only message that you will be sending is abject self-defeating stupidity and you forfeit your right to complain.
If that sounds like a tirade that is because it is a tirade. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. We have possibly foreclosed legal options in Kansas.
