Uh oh - Apparently turning straight kids gay again

“Sports minister” Steve McConkey (4 Winds Christian Athletics) is terribly distressed over Major League Baseball and Pride days. According to McConkey:

Gay people will be shown on “kiss cams.” Massive rainbow flags will be displayed. Rainbow-themed baseball merchandise will be for sale. Homosexuals and transgenders will throw out first pitches before games. Young kids will be exposed to the sin of homosexuality.
Fundamentalist Christians cannot seem to grasp the simple fact that the word transgender is an adjective, not a noun. As for being “exposed” yet again gay people are characterized as posing some sort of threat to children. McConkey doesn't specify what that threat is but, presumably, positive images of gays and rainbow flags will turn straight kids gay. Or something equally ridiculous. As a child I was routinely exposed to straight people kissing and, well, you know how that worked out.

The alternate explanation is that McConkey fears that kids will be more accepting of LGBT people. The reality is that we live in a diverse, secular society. Not fearing people because they are different seems like something we should “celebrate.” We know a few things about LGBT people that people surely did not understand thousands of years ago when McConkey's book was written.
“Society has slipped to the point that we now celebrate the sin of homosexuality in America,” states 4 Winds USA President Steve McConkey. “Sports should not be used to further the LGBT agenda. Maybe, we should celebrate other sins on other game days. I would suggest that families and individuals stay away from LGBT events sponsored by sports teams.”
Right. We should all behave like “superstitious fools*. As an aside I am trying to figure out the New York Yankees which does not have Pride days. I assumed that this was the result of manager Joe Girardi who is a conservative Catholic. However, Girardi retired at the end of the 2017 season and they still do not host Pride days in one of the most diverse cities in the United States. I need to send some snail mail to Yankees president Randy Levine.

Getting back to McConkey, he is demonstrating how to effectively marginalize conservative Christians. All it takes is a “celebration” of ignorance and stupidity.

* In his dissent in United States v. Windsor, Justice Alito stated that he opposed marriage equality because those who believe in traditional marriage would be considered “bigots or superstitious fools.” Has anyone hurt Alito's feelings lately?
