Conversion therapy is a toxic dead end for LGBT people

Every mainstream medical and counseling professional peer association agrees that conversion therapy is ineffective and potentially harmful.
Conversion therapy
Liberty Counsel, an anti-LGBT hate group, is spreading misinformation throughout the religious right echo chamber about the supposed effectiveness of conversion therapy.

The existence of conversion therapy is — and always has been — a way for the religious right to claim that sexuality is a choice and is not immutable. They perpetuate the myth that sexuality they disapprove of is a mental disorder that can be cured.

Liberty Counsel links to a wacky conversion therapy study

Hate group leader Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel
According to “Liberty Counsel Staff”— Study Lends Credence to This About Same-Sex Attraction Counseling. Uh, no it does not. Liberty Counsel is an anti-LGBT hate group. Before I go any further, this “study” is published by Linacre Quarterly which is the “journal” of the Catholic Medical Association. Peer review consists of conformity with Catholic Church teachings.

Now about the authors of this piece of work. The lead investigator is Paul L. Santero, PhD. The bio link says Southern California Seminary in El Cajon, CA. He is not on the faculty; not even an adjunct or staff member. In 2011 Santero wrote a 346 page book with a similar title: The Effects of Therapy on U.S. Men with Unwanted Same-sex Attraction. I cannot find what Santero's supposed doctorate is in or where it was obtained. The book was probably vanity published. Perhaps Santero was with the seminary when this study was actually done in 2011.

Warning: WNDR4700 and OpenWRT 18.06

The available upgrade bricked my beloved router. The WNDR4700 is unique because it can house an internal hard drive.

In the way of background my ISP provides a router with WiFi. I was using a WNDR4700 (with a 2 TB ext4 internal hard drive) as a NAS. I exposed the hard drive to Kodi with a Linux NFS share.

David Barton is shilling for David Lane

David Barton
David BartonPseudo-historian, Christian nationalist
and Republican operative
Friday, David Barton has written an invite to David Lane's next event in California. We will get to Barton's text but first:

David Barton is a GOP operative, pseudo-historian (Christian revisionist) and Christian nationalist. He has no credentials to support his claims of being an historian, Warren Throckmorton takes particular delight in unraveling some of Barton's BS. Barton is an anti-LGBT bigot.

California bill banning conversion therapy clears state Senate

On Thursday AB-2943, the California bill that would designate conversion therapy as consumer fraud, passed the Senate on a party line vote. Not one Republican voted in favor of the bill which should tell you something. GOPers seem to have two employers — the NRA and the Christian right. They stopped representing citizens a very long time ago.

The bill goes back to the state Assembly for a vote on procedural amendments. That chamber had approved the measure by a vote of 50 to 18.

California Chapter of MassResistance welcomes a white nationalist

Kenny Strawn
White nationalist and crash test dummy, Kenny Strawn, has hooked up with hate group MassResistance
MassResistance is an anti-LGBT hate group. That designation applies to its chapters which might be independent of Brian Camenker's original hate group in Massachusetts.

The California Chapter of MassResistance (sometimes Mass Resistance) was started by Arthur Christopher Schaper, an unemployed resident of Torrance. Schaper is so abrasive that the Republican Party revoked the charter of Beach Cities Republican Club, of which he is president. He has a reputation in California for disrupting public meetings. Schaper is reportedly associated with a number of right wing anti-immigrant groups.

Look at what else the VSG is up to

His Majesty Donald J. Trump, VSG (very stable genius)
In this photo a (now former) adviser told Trump that Jeff Bezos' shares are worth over $75 billion
At the Heritage Foundation blog, Nicolas Loris writes: Trump’s Rollback of CAFE Mandates Is a Big Win for Car Buyers, Consumer Choice. Loris has a pretentious academic title at Heritage and presumes to be an economist. He has a master's degree in economics from George Mason University. That does not make him an economist. Nevertheless, the title of his essay is correct, to a fault.

Our country was attacked yesterday

“Trump's motto is: ‘I've got mine — Fuck everyone else!’”
Donald Trump
Wind is a bitch
United States President Donald Trump has accomplished something that Osama bin Laden could only conceive of in a fever dream. Our president has further shred our democracy while his enablers in Congress sit in silence.

Case in point is Trump's cancellation of the security clearances of his critics. The country be damned. Due process be damned. Thou shall not be critical of Emperor Trump. It was a brazen move. The White House admitted that John Brennan's security clearance was yanked because he was critical of the president. In no case did the administration cite anyone for an abuse or misuse of their security clearance. This was strictly political.

SIX scams in ONE email From Brian S. Brown/NOM

Brian S. Brown
Brian S. Brown, on behalf of National Organization for Marriage, is selectively faithful. Scamming people is generally frowned upon by most religious conservatives; Christians, Jews, Muslims and others. Mr. Brown is promoting six scams on Wednesday.

Brown has sent an email to supporters titled: A supporter challenges us ….

Scam 1:
Dear Friends—On Monday I wrote that confirmation hearings on Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the US Supreme Court are set to begin on September 4th. The importance of confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court cannot be overstated.

Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Part Deux

Popcorn futures are soaring as Masterpiece Cakeshop sues Colorado.
Autumn Charlie Scardina
Autumn Charlie Scardina, a Colorado Lawyer says that Masterpiece Cakeshop discriminated against her in late June because she is a trans woman.
Last June the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Masterpiece Cakeshop (Jack Phillips, proprietor) over the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. However, it is important to note that the Court did not touch Colorado's nondiscrimination law. It remains in full force and effect.

What the justices ruled is that, in hearing the case, the state demonstrated religious animus which is based on biased remarks by a member of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. I likened this to a thief caught red-handed with the stolen merchandise in his living room. The conviction gets tossed on appeal because the cops did not have a proper search warrant. It has not effect on future prosecutions of the thief as long as the police follow required procedures.

Robert P. George and Elizabeth Johnston must relish looking like anti-LGBT tools

“It is another way of saying that transgender people (who are not drag queens and vice versa) have some evil influence over young children. It is anti-LGBT bigotry.”
Robert P. George and Elizabeth Johnston exporting some paranoia and anti-LGBT bigotry
Princeton Professor and Defender of the Faith™ Robert P. George has been relatively quiet on LGBT issues lately (Trump consumes a great deal of oxygen). George reemerges at CBN, along with professional douchebag Elizabeth Johnston, the so-called “Activist Mommy.” Johnston is an idiot savant. Her self-promotion is an island of genius amid a sea of abysmal stupidity.

According to CBN, regarding Drag Queen Story Hour:

Costa Rica's bishops voice the same old sophistry

Metropolitan Cathedral
of San Jose, Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s Supreme Court has ruled that a same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. The Court has given the government 18 months to implement marriage equality. Needless to say, the Costa Rican Bishops' Conference is displeased.

Catholic News Agency explains:
“In a democratic and pluralistic society like ours, legal recognition can be given to persons of the same sex that live together,” the bishops said. However, they continued, it would be “unjust if such recognition would claim to equate same sex unions with marriage.”

Apparently people are now praying away gender dysphoria

It's a fucking miracle!
Jeffrey McCall
According to Jessilyn Justice: From Transgender to Transformed: How the Holy Spirit Broke the LGBT Lies That Bound This Man. Sure.

Call me a cynic but I expect to see more of these. People who claim to be ex-[fill in the blank] tend to have an economic interest in claiming to be ex-[fill in the blank]. They join the anti-LGBT circuit (or should I say circus), they pen books and they collect speaking fees (and they don't pay their taxes).

Dutch Sheets is so, ... special

Dutch Sheets
Dutch Sheets via YouTube. Yes, I muted the moron.
Dutch Sheets, the profoundly anti-LGBT grifter-preacher, announced in 2011: “The president is a Muslim.” That not only expressed Sheets' disdain for President Obama but it expressed Sheets' willingness to accept conspiracy theories and to participate in their propagation. Moreover, at the same time Sheets was denigrating Islam.

The Supreme Court's 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges was a bit upsetting to Mr. Sheets:
…sadness, grief and anger over the redefining of marriage by the Supreme Court has been profound and is certainly appropriate. These emotions are much different than the trivial feelings caused by the sting of “losing.” They are more akin to the deep grief associated with death.
In the same post, Sheets revealed his stellar mind-reading skills:

David Lane on the "Deep State" conspiracy theory

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
That's David Lane (left) of American Renewal Project bashing LGBT people while laying hands on then North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory
David Lane is a creepy Republican operative and Christian Supremacist. Lane is also a rabid bigot when it comes to LGBT people. The objective of his group (American Renewal Project) is to foist a literalist Christian theocracy on America by training conservative evangelical Christian pastors to run for public office. Lane's finances are very murky. American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group, has washed contributions to Lanes group in order to obfuscate the fact that Lane's enterprise is political.

Lane is also a cynical conspiracy theorist. Friday he writes: Yes, There Really Is a Deep State. Lane may very well believe his own BS.

Mad Mat never tires of promoting the same false anti-LGBT BS

Hate group leader Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel wants to sociopathically torment trans and gender nonconforming students. The Bible tells him so.
The latest tirade from Liberty Counsel is titled: NV Schools Endanger Children. It is Liberty Counsel and its leader, Mad Mat Staver, that endanger children through the promotion of anti-LGBT bigotry. Moreover, the bigotry is based on falsehoods.
Clark County Public School District is pushing to adopt new policies that would violate students’ privacy, endanger children and make schools less safe, despite community opposition. On Thursday, August 9, the school board will be voting on policies that will allow students to use bathrooms, locker rooms and showers based on their gender identity, rather than their biological sex.

Jefferson Sessions is taking sides as a government official

Jeff Sessions
In a speech Wednesday for Alliance Defending Freedom (an anti-LGBT hate group) Jefferson Sessions promoted Christian Supremacy and Christian Privilege; heaping praise on a hate group while denigrating SPLC.
Attorney General Jefferson Sessions is taking sides. In a speech delivered Wednesday at Alliance Defending Freedom's Summit on Religious Freedom, Sessions spoke as a government official and not as a private citizen.

Sessions derided people who were opposed to a Georgia religious freedom bill which was nothing more than a legal license to discriminate against LGBT people. Sessions grouped the bill's detractors with Harvey Weinstein which he pronounced, with a Rebel flourish, “Winestighn.”

Sessions claimed that bigoted baker, Jack Phillips, “simply refused to yield.” Aside from the fact that Sessions showed no empathy for the humiliated gay couple that was refused service, the nation's leading law enforcement officer pronounced, in effect, that Christians had the right (and even a duty) to refuse to obey laws that they did not like. Sessions liberally quoted from our founding fathers yet at no time did they envision Christian Privilege.

Never underestimate the importance of conversion therapy to the religious right

Conversion therapy has a purpose in the world of religious conservatives. It has nothing to do with supposedly helping a tiny number of people change their sexuality.
So-called ex-gays are very important to the religious right. PFOX's VP is Peter Sprigg whose full-time employment is with the hate group Family Research Council.
Hate group leader Brad Dacus (Pacific Justice Institute) is again threatening litigation if California Assembly Bill 2943 is enacted into law. Oh well. I have had a one month respite from entertaining idiotic arguments opposing the California measure. If signed into law (which seems likely) AB-2943 would designate offering conversion therapy for a fee as consumer fraud per se.

We do not need to get into a discussion pertaining to  the pseudoscience because it is not up to us to prove that conversion therapy is ineffective and toxic. Rather it is up to practitioners and their supporters to prove that conversion therapy — whether for sexual orientation or gender identity — is safe and effective. They have never done so.

"Family Research Council Urges HHS to Revoke Any Contract with Baby Body Part Traffickers"

“Soylent Green is people!”
Oh my. Where oh where do they get those parts? I should not be such a smart-ass but I never understood this objection. Naive fetal tissue can be used in research that saves lives. Burying it or otherwise disposing of it serves no logical purpose. The fact that fetal tissue is being used does not mean that babies die or fetuses are killed.

Yet, according to Family Research Council:
This afternoon it was reported that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "signed a new contract on July 25 to acquire 'fresh' human fetal tissue to transplant into 'humanized mice' so that the mice will have a functioning 'human immune system.'"

Pouring rain on a line in the sand

A favorable court decision in Oregon chips away at the right wing's favorite cause.
For some reason the religious right has decided that 0.6% of the population pose the most pervasive and pernicious threat throughout Christendom to their very lives. They are further obsessed by where that 0.6% of the population can pee. It is disproportionate irrationality,

Slowly Boiled Frog started as a gay blog. It has increasingly become dominated by transgender and gender nonconforming issues. That is just fine with me. Content reflects the bigotry that LGBT people are regularly forced to endure. I am only reacting to the feigned outrage, particularly as it affects school kids.

Now Alex Jones is a "martyr"

Alex Jones
Cheryl K. Chumley, Washington Times polemicist, seems to worship Alex Jones as her hero. Apparently spreading misinformation and baseless conspiracy theories among gullible imbeciles is heroic. But there is more. Chumley writes:
Alex Jones of Infowars has been booted from YouTube, Apple, Spotify and Facebook for what the tech giants consider his rampant hate speech.

And with that, Jones has become the face of the censorship fight.

Federalist piece compares trans people to Mussolini

“What, exactly, is the awful woman's malfunction?”
Maureen Mullarkey
Maureen Mullarkey is terribly troubled by the notion that transgender people should be treated with civility
What is this? Transgender offensive Monday? Maureen Mullarkey claims to be a painter and a critic. Whatever she is, she is also a bigot. Proving once again that nothing is too awful for The Federalist Mullarkey writes: What I Learned From Attending ‘Transgender 101’ At My Local Library. She learned nothing. She knew going in that she would learn nothing. She did this so that she could grouse about it.

“Transgender 101,” a recent presentation in my local library, was more evidence—if any were needed—that transgenderism is an aggressive movement. And that today’s transgenderisti are way ahead of the old fascisti in socially driven language change.

Ohio judge sued in federal court for prohibiting teens with gender dysphoria from gender-appropriate name changes

Joseph W. Kirby
Judge Joseph W. Kirby has some odd ideas about the best interests of some juveniles
This case is captioned Whitaker et al v. Kirby in the Southern District of Ohio.

Joseph W. Kirby is a probate and juvenile court judge in Warren County, Ohio which is in the Cincinnati metro area. According to an 81 page complaint filed on Friday, Kirby routinely refuses to allow teens with gender dysphoria to change their names to match their presentation.

Michelle Cretella has an illogical retort to every bit of research she does not like

As research increasingly proves her wrong, Dr. Cretella gets more, … creative.
Michelle Cretella
Michelle Cretella appeared on The World Over which airs on the Global Catholic Network
Hate group leader Michelle Cretella (American College of Pediatricians) has not been a licensed physician for a number of years. Unlicensed, she is relieved of continuing education obligations — and it shows. Cretella is a garden variety Defender of the Faith™. She attempts to merge a belief system with science while no blender known to mankind has sufficient power to make an amalgam of the two.
Monday, according to Charlie Butts who writes for American Family Association (another anti-LGBT hate group):

Brown takes credit for Sessions' religious liberty "task force"

Brian S. Brown
An email on Friday reminded me that Brian S. Brown of National Organization for Marriage is a continuing source of amusement. That is not to suggest that NOM is not dangerous and pernicious. It is both of those things. It has the potential to obtain the full support of the Vatican hierarchy and it has an agenda that is antithetical to the interests of LGBT people.

According to Brown:
President Donald Trump has once again stepped up to take action to protect the religious liberty of people of faith. This week Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the formation of a new task force on religious liberty to build on the president's earlier action to provide protections.

Canadian Christians are having a hissy fit over CAN

Canadian Anti-Hate Network
CAN is the new Canadian Anti-Hate Network. It looks a bit like Southern Poverty Law Center and it is being attacked accordingly.

Everyday for Life Canada has a post up remarkably titled Homophobia: the etymology of justified intolerance. They explain:
There is a new group in Canada that aims tThe Canadian Anti-Hate Network’s (CAN) lurid red-and-black website launched last month vindicates conservative warnings it will march in lockstep with its American counterpart Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in what it labels as “hate.”o [six] identify [sic] "hate" speech and groups that the [sic] claim promote it. On the surface this may sound good, but it's not. The organization is ironically called, The Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAN), an anti-hate group that permits itself to define those who "hate." It's Canada's version of the American Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

AFA continues to promote anti-Muslim hate and Christian Supremacy

“Telling people who to hate and who to be afraid of is part of a larger belief system.”
Tim Wildmon
Hate group leader Tim Wildmon is promoting an anti-American doctrine
Southern Poverty Law Center considers American Family Association an anti-LGBT hate group. If AFA came to their senses tomorrow and acknowledged that gender identity and sexual orientation are natural variations of human sexuality; if they rescinded their moronic boycott of Target; if they hired a transgender vice president — they would still be a hate group.

We can reasonably assume that posts to AFA's phony news blog reflect the sentiments of the organization's leadership. The personnel who write these posts are people who conform to AFA's organizational culture. When they quote people who are not directly affiliated with AFA they do so because they approve of the commentary. The blog is not informational; it is propaganda to advance the agenda of American Family Association.

Blowhard Bill Donohue: Thou shall not defy me

Bill Donohue
Blowhard Bill Donohue, the over-pampered head of the Catholic League, has a new pronouncement: “BOYCOTT BURGER KING.〃 (Blowhard Bill likes all-caps).

I have yet to figure out what this guy really does. The head of a Catholic organization is a divorced man. A current tax return is not available (I shall inquire) but in 2015 Donohue received $540 thousand in compensation (including $57K in non-taxable benefits). That is an enormous amount of untaxed benefits and a very substantial salary for an organization with a $3 million budget and about a dozen employees.

Gen. Jerry forgets his own BS about SPLC

Jerry Boykin
May the Lord bless us and keep us removed from Brown people, Muslims, Jews, gays and transgender people and that's just for starters.
Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin is the number-two at Family Research Council, an anti-LGBT hate group. Jerry is holier-than-thou and he doesn't like the fact that FRC is designated a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center. Gen. Jerry will say that his group simply upholds biblical values. Apparently that involves lying about a sexual minority; marginalizing the same; promoting hate and advocating “solutions” at odds with medical science.

About a year ago, Jerry said this:

Linda Harvey appeals to Trump to be more homophobic

Linda Harvey
Linda Harvey practicing
Life might be dull without the exquisite eloquence of Linda Harvey. Yes, Ms. Harvey is a bit nutty but she knows how to hit one out of the park. For example, consider Tuesday's post titled: Let’s stop U.S. export of homosexual agenda. Oh, indeed. The quick-witted Harvey explains further:
Should U.S. embassies around the globe fly rainbow flags to celebrate homosexuality? Or hold receptions to honor “pride”?

Of course not. In fact, it’s such an in-your-face insult, it reminds me of something former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might devise.

No Mad Mat - Planet Fitness did not lose a case in Michigan

Mat Staver
For the self-righteous Mat Staver the prohibition on bearing false does not apply
According to hate group leader Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel Planet Fitness Loses Locker Room Case. Staver drones on:
A Michigan appeals court has ruled in favor of a former Planet Fitness customer who argued that her rights under Michigan's consumer protection law were violated when the club did not disclose its unwritten policy and canceled her membership because she complained about a man in the women's locker room.
