AFA is also an anti-immigrant hate group

Thursday, according to American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group: More anchor babies born to illegals in L.A. than 14 states' total births. “Anchor baby” is a pejorative term that is intended to promote mythology. According to the widely held but utterly untrue narrative, undocumented immigrants intentionally produce babies in order to create an affirmative defense to deportation; an anchor to the United States.

The child is, in fact, a United States citizen. However, in no way does this serve as a defense in deportation proceedings. The only possible exceptions are if the child is desperately ill or disabled. If the child remains in the United States, at the age of 21 he or she could apply for reunification which, if all the hurdles are cleared, takes another five to ten years.

According to AFA:
A newly released report reveals that today, there are more anchor babies born to illegal aliens in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, California, than there are United States total births in 14 – plus the District of Columbia.

Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) Director of Research Steven Camarotta divulged some staggering statistics about the extent to which illegal immigrants have infiltrated America to give birth to U.S.-born children as a reason to stay in the country.
The Center for Immigration Studies is another hate group. Note how they advance the popular mythology. If AFA is relaying Mr. Camarotta's sentiments then he is a liar. Camarotta knows perfectly well that a United States born child does not protect someone from being deported. The author of this treatise is AFA propagandist Michael F. Haverluck. He is promoting something that is untrue in order to justify anti-immigrant activism.

Quoting Camarotta:
“Because the United States automatically awards citizenship to all persons born in the country – including those born to temporary visitors or illegal immigrants – the overwhelming majority of these children will stay in the United States,” Camarotta explained in his CIS research report. “In 2014, one in five births (791,000) [20 percent] in the United States was to an immigrant mother (legal or illegal), [and] our best estimate is that legal immigrants accounted for 12.4 percent (494,000) of all births – and illegal immigrants accounted for 7.5 percent (297,000).”
Camarotta cannot cite a reliable source to support his contention that “the overwhelming majority” of these children will stay in the country. If their parents leave the country, voluntarily or by deportation, the child born here is likely to stay with their family. Mr. Camarotta does not like immigrants. His 20% estimate (documented and undocumented immigrants combined) has no reliable foundation. Nor do any of the statistics that he cites.

Camarotta, with an assist from AFA wants people to believe that we are being “infiltrated” by undesirable people who will live off of government benefits. It is all part of a popular meme; one that is actively promoted by Donald Trump: Brown people are stealing from white people. These are the people who come from “shithole countries” according to Trump.

The foundation of anti-immigrant hate is racism. CIS would not exist if these immigrants were coming from Scandinavia.

Camarotta and AFA misrepresent the guesswork:
“The 297,000 births per year to illegal immigrants is larger than the total number of births in any state other than California and Texas, [which] is also larger than the total number of births in 16 states plus the District of Columbia, combined,” the immigration expert divulged. “The estimated 28,000 births to illegal immigrants in just the Los Angeles metro area is larger than the total number of births in 14 states and the District of Columbia.”
That 297,000 is nothing more than a guess which is then inflated in order to inflame passions against immigrants. Then, the notion that the national total is greater than the estimated births to citizens in some states is completely irrelevant. It has no meaning. This is an effort to inflate the impact of estimates that are based on an agenda-driven methodology.

Here is how the brown people are stealing:
Huge burden on society

Along with illegals and their anchor babies come huge costs incurred by the American taxpayer.

“Among the native-born, a large share of new mothers (42 percent) are either uninsured or on Medicaid, [and] the rate is even higher among new mothers who are legal immigrants (47 percent), and higher still for new mothers who are in the United States illegally (67 percent),” Camarotta informed. “Almost all of these births are likely paid for by taxpayers.”
The truth is that undocumented immigrants do not qualify for welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, or most other government programs.
“Of all births likely paid for by taxpayers, about one in four (429,000) [25 percent] was to an immigrant (legal or illegal),” the head of research at CIS pointed out. “Illegal immigrants account for 11 percent (198,000) of all publicly funded births, and legal immigrants are another 13 percent (231,000). We estimate that the cost to taxpayers for births to immigrants (legal and illegal) is roughly $5.3 billion
It is true that a hospital will deliver the baby of indigent parents but that is not “publicly funded.” Hospitals refer to it as “charity care.” My local hospital is Mt. Sinai in Miami Beach. In 2016 it reported net assets of $400 million. In addition the hospital's foundation reported net assets of nearly $200 million.

I can play with numbers too. An average charity delivery actually costs the hospital next to nothing. They are not displacing “paying customers” and the work is being performed by people who are already on the payroll (in contrast to private doctors). There are 5,500 hospitals in the United States. Not all of them are as financially secure as Mt. Sinai but they all provide charity care and none of that is passed on to taxpayers.

Mr. Camarotta wants people to believe that mothers of undocumented immigrants are eligible for Medicaid and that is simply untrue. Note how he always includes the costs of “legal immigrants.” They constitute more brown people stealing from white people.

Later on:
Cities of refuge and freebees for illegals …
“Among the nation's largest metro areas, immigrants (legal and illegal) account for half or nearly half of births in Miami, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.; they are two out of five births in Los Angeles and the New York City area,” the conductor of the study revealed. “They are also one out of three births in the metro areas of Washington, D.C., Houston, San Diego, Seattle, Boston and Las Vegas.”
Again, he is combining legal and undocumented immigrants. These are just rough agenda-driven estimates too. I hate to break it to Mr. Camarotta but, regarding Miami, we have a huge documented immigrant population. These people are the core of our economy. They work, they own businesses and they are insured. Every pharmacist who has ever filled a prescription for me at CVS is an immigrant.

My shrink is of Colombian/Lebanese descent. My therapist is of Cuban descent. I cannot be sure but in Miami-Dade I suspect that there are more of “them” than us. I am not sure because I never investigated the matter because it is entirely irrelevant to my life. Where exactly are those supposed “freebees?”
“There are an estimated 12 million illegal aliens living across the U.S. at any given time,” Breitbart News informed. “Most recent research by Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), however, revealed that there is likely an estimated 22 million illegal aliens in the U.S.”
Pew Research estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in 2015. You will forgive me if I cannot find research from Yale or MIT effectively doubling that number and the AFA article does not provide a link.

From there AFA relates tales from third and fourth hand sources. I will save myself the brain cells. According to Pew about 8 million of those 11 million people are in the civilian workforce. They are paying taxes and there are no refunds. They are also paying into Social Security with no potential benefit.

My guess is that this piece is part of a strategy to drive people to the polls in November. If they think that brown people are stealing from them they might be inclined to vote for Republicans. It is a profoundly cynical ploy.

By the way, where is that famous Christian love and concern for these people and their children?
