A Lamborghini and a Rolex - Churches need to file tax returns

Pastor John Gray of Relentless Church in Greenville, South Carolina bought his wife Aventer a Lamborghini Urus for their eighth wedding anniversary. With 641 HP the vehicle tops out at about 190 per and is the world's fastest SUV. It is just what every pastor's wife requires. Average price of the Urus is about $270,000 (base price is $200,000).

Aventer purchased for her hubbie, Pastor John, an $8,100 Rolex.

Those are some very expensive toys. In addition to his job as a pastor, Gray allegedly has other sources of income. This could be perfectly legitimate. In pleas for money, Gray has said that his young church is not financially solvent.

United States law does not require churches to file any financial information with the Internal Revenue Service. Just auditing a church is a challenge. Does that policy make any sense at all?

I am going to send a little note to the Service today. Chances are that it will not result in any action.
