The most extreme crackpottery from Michelle Cretella to date

“Her explanation for the existence of gender dysphoria in a child is that the mother has Munchausen syndrome (which is very rare) and has somehow imposed the condition on her daughter.”

Someone by the name of Tyler O'Neil wrote: Mother Forcing Transgenderism on 6-Year-Old Son May Suffer From a Mental Disorder, Pediatrician Says. O'Neil is an imbecile.

This relates to a custody case in Texas that I have written about. One cannot force a child to be transgender; the child has been diagnosed by expert psychologists and psychiatrists and there is no evidence whatsoever that the child is being forced to experience gender dysphoria.

Oh, and Tyler O'Neil is apparently unaware of the fact that the mother is a board certified pediatrician and a professor of pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center in partnership with the University of Texas.
Get this:
In a particularly tragic divorce proceeding, a mother who forces a transgender identity on her 6-year-old son James is accusing the boy's father of child abuse because he refers to the boy as male. The father responded by offering James a choice of boy's clothes and girl's clothes, and the boy constantly chooses the male options while away from his mother.

Dr. Michelle Cretella, executive director at the American College of Pediatricians, told PJ Media that the mother may be suffering from a mental disorder. "This case is consistent with a diagnosis of Munchausen by proxy," she said.
American College of Pediatricians is a tiny fringe group that the Southern Poverty Law Center considers an anti-LGBT hate group. It is not a divorce proceeding. The mother is seeking to modify conditions of custody to prevent the father from further abusing his daughter.

Cretella's only interest is to defend the teachings of the Catholic Church. She gave up real medicine years ago and is not even licensed. Cretella has never met the child or the mother and she was never a psychiatrist. Yet she is rendering a psychiatric diagnosis. Cretella is being unconscionably irresponsible.

Consider the staggering odds against Cretella being correct. Munchausen is extremely rare and affects men more often than women.

As for Mr. O'Neil's stupidity, I suggest that he review the court records and then stick to what can be affirmed with evidence — /evədəns/ the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.
If anyone involved has a psychiatric disorder, that would be Dr. Cretella:
"This is a disorder in which an adult feigns either physical or psychological condition in a child for their own subconscious reasons," the pediatrician explained. "Most often the perpetrator is the biological mother and she often has a background in health or medicine."

"In the case of imposing gender dysphoria on a son, there are cases in the scientific literature of severe maternal depression triggered in a mother longing for a daughter," Cretella added. "The mother's depression lifts when the boy dresses and acts as a girl. This has been termed 'gender mourning.'"
I happen to have a press pass for JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) which is actually 13 journals including JAMA-Psychiatry. The term “gender mourning” is not to be found. Nor can the term be found at any of the journals of the American Academy of Pediatrics. If O'Neil had some intellectual curiosity he might have come to a similar conclusion. Indeed, just a Google search of the phrase turns up nothing.

It would not surprise me if there were a case documented similar to what Cretella is claiming. However what she describes is not the imposition of gender dysphoria which seems impossible. It would seem impossible to coerce a child who did not have gender dysphoria to cross-dress for school and adopt a female name.
Tyler O'Neil continues:
"Meanwhile, Dad isn’t seeing signs of gender dysphoria. In the father’s home, James appears to be a normal boy and doesn’t identify as a girl. He has a choice of boy’s or girl’s clothes there, and he chooses to dress as a boy," Heyer reported. "The fact that James changes gender identity depending on which parent is present makes the diagnosis of gender dysphoria both dubious and harmful."
There is no testimony or filing to that effect. None of that is in the court record. These are accounts from conservative media that do not subject the father to charges of perjury. To avoid perjuring himself, the father has simply offered a one-sentence ambiguous general denial of the mother's claims. Walt Heyer is assuming the narrative to be true and Heyer is not qualified to challenge a diagnosis.

Heyer had sex reassignment (gender-affirming) surgery about 36 years ago at about 42 years of age. He had the surgery reversed about eight years later. Whatever knowledge he possessed, it ended around 1990 and is limited to his experience. Heyer makes a living being anti-transgender.
Cretella's omniscience
In fact, Cretella told PJ Media that not only is James "happy behaving like a stereotypical boy," but "one time he actually cut up the girl clothing" his father provided.

"Whenever he's with his mother, his mother addresses him by the name Luna and only permits him to dress in girl clothing," Cretella added. The mother chose a therapist who specializes in gender transition, and the therapist seems unwilling to acknowledge James's masculine identity.

"The fact that the therapist ignores the obvious amounts to child abuse," the pediatrician told PJ Media. "This therapist and the mother are conditioning James to identify as transgender and to begin the road of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. This will destroy his life."
This awful woman will say just about anything in defense of the faith. Has she considered the far more likely explanation that the father is imposing his will on his daughter? He gave the kid a haircut to force her to be a boy. The Court is aware that the child was distressed over that haircut.

Moreover, rather than being deranged, the most likely explanation is that Luna's mother conformed to what is now considered best practice by her professional organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics (the real peer group). Best practice is gender-affirmative care.

I cannot be certain but it looks to me like Michelle Cretella is selling this ridiculous story to anyone who will listen. That includes the Russian controlled propaganda site, RT.com. She does not care. Cretella is trying to convince the world that transgender people do not really exist because the pope (a theologian and catechist) says so.

Just to summarize: Dr. Michelle Cretella does not approve of transgender people because of the teachings of the Catholic Church. Her explanation for the existence of gender dysphoria in a child is that the mother has Munchausen syndrome (which is very rare) and has somehow imposed the condition on her daughter. Her explanation for the child's transition for school and the fact that her classmates only know her as a girl is that the mother has coerced the child to be transgender. This all seems too crazy. Even for Dr. Cretella.
