What the 40% believe

Rush Limbaugh
YouTube/Fox News
The right seem convinced that they will not be fact-checked. The following is some of the mythology surrounding McCabe's book. My commentary follows.

Rush Limbaugh offered up his theory: Democrats went rogue under the Obama administration and investigated the political campaign of Donald Trump (using a Hillary Clinton funded dossier to get a FISA warrant) to cover up their own misdeeds and stay out of jail.

He said the “express purpose” of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation was to create “a gigantic distraction.”

“It was two-pronged. It was to get rid of Trump. It was to create public opinion that Trump is illegitimate, illegal, unseemly, unfit, while distracting everybody from what really happened,” Limbaugh said.

“I don’t think these people ever thought that they would be prosecuted or caught, but I think that that’s largely what the ‘backup plan’ was. And it’s gonna require an investigation by the Department of Justice of itself to find out what went on here.”

Just for starters, the FISA warrant that Limbaugh refers to was in regards to Carter Page. The Russian probe began as a result of George Papadopoulos' interactions with a Russian agent who claimed to have incriminating evidence against Hillary Clinton.

Secondly, the Steele dossier was only a small part of the evidence in support of the FISA warrant and its multiple renewals. And by the way, no one has disproved anything within Steele's work. Steele has an excellent reputation for accuracy and thoroughness.

The notion that Mueller was engaged to create a distraction is ludicrous. Rosenstein, a Republican, brought on a highly regarded special counsel, another Republican with a stellar reputation, because DOJ was seriously conflicted.

I am not sure who Walrus is referring to by “these people” but I think that he is weaving a tale that the investigators and independent counsel have done something wrong. And by the way, what about all of those indictments and guilty pleas? Manafort is going to probably spend his last days in federal prison. Were his misdeeds part of the “distraction?” Flynn's sentencing is still pending.

The fact that Limbaugh peddles this bullshit depicts his arrogance. He knows that he has an incurious audience who will believe just about anything he says — no matter how preposterous.
