Chicago Mayoral Race - Is IFI Responsible for Homophobic Fliers?

The Victory Fund is reporting that a group is distributing homophobic fliers attacking lesbian Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot. Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle face each other in an April 2, 2019 runoff election. They were the top two vote recipients among 14 candidates in the general election on February 26.

The offensive fliers, featuring a photo of Lightfoot and her wife, were distributed on vehicles in key neighborhoods and at predominantly black churches (trying to drive that wedge again). According to the fliers a Lighfoot mayoralty would result in “all contracts, jobs, and employment newly assigned exclusively to gay people,” and that “all churches will abide by the gay marriage laws,” and schools will “teach Gay History by mandate.”

The claim of gay-only contractors and employment is absolutely absurd. Churches are protected by the First Amendment and a bill requiring LGBT history in public schools has already passed both houses of the Illinois legislature and is headed to Governor J.B. Pritzker's desk. Pritzker, a Democrat and supporter of LGBT rights, is expected to sign the bill into law.

Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker – now President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund issued the following statement:
Homophobic forces attempting to derail Lori’s historic candidacy are using the politics of hate and fear to mobilize anti-LGBTQ voters for Toni Preckwinkle. The attack fliers are infused with mischaracterizations of the LGBTQ community and the laws that protect them – including bigoted stereotypes that are too often used against LGBTQ candidates when their opponents get desperate. Chicagoans, regardless of who they support, must speak out forcefully against efforts to mobilize voters through bigotry.
Illinois Family Institute is a hate group.
Something this crass raises the question of whether IFI or their propagandist, Laurie Higgins, are involved in the flier distribution. Higgins, in particular, is prone to go unhinged. The prospect of a lesbian mayor of Chicago is likely to cause her extreme distress. This is a question. I have no evidence of IFI's involvement. It could easily be the opposing campaign.
