Family Policy Alliance is an affiliate of Focus on the Family. “In alliance with Massachusetts Family Institute” they have published: MASSACHUSETTS: Stop the Legislature from Pushing Kids to Change Gender. This will probably not be the most idiotic thing that I read today but it will be damned close.

I scarcely know where to begin. Suffice it to say that gender cannot be influenced. If we could change a child's gender through influences then there would be no transgender kids because they would not suffer from gender dysphoria because they would be influenced toward congruent gender and natal sex. No parent wants a trans child. Is that not abundantly obvious as a matter of common sense?
A bold effort to explain:
A Massachusetts legislative committee could vote any day on a bill that would push many minors towards transgenderism. Your quick help is needed to stop it!

House Bill 110 is what is known as a “counseling ban.” It would ban professional counseling for children and teens who are struggling with their gender identity. But the ban would ONLY forbid counseling that is designed to help them identify with their birth sex.
“Professional Counseling” is an oxymoron when it comes to attempts to change gender identity. There simply does not exist any evidence that doing so is possible. The ban will prevent children from being abused by religious fundamentalists with dubious qualifications who insist that the world must conform to ancient chronicles of questionable provenance.

Furthermore, the idea that this would affect many minors is absurd. Transgender children are a minuscule minority; about one-half of one percent. Only about one-fourth of children with gender dysphoria will become transgender due to the severity of their suffering and that is without any crackpot pseudo-scientific intervention.

Children with severe gender dysphoria are at significant risk of self-harm in the absence of gender affirmation. They seek ways to affirm their gender (sometimes in secret) because it provides them with relief from their suffering. Attempts to “counsel” them out of gender incongruence only causes more misery which increases the potential for self-harm.
The amalgamation of stupidity with irrationality:
In other words, counseling that encourages them to change their gender – even to go through irreversible sex-change operations – would be protected by the state. But counseling to help them accept their God-given birth sex would be outlawed.
Can we please stop talking about gender-confirming surgery when it comes to children? Furthermore, whoever wrote this drivel is terribly confused. It is counseling to change gender that is prohibited. It does not work and it is toxic. Gender and natal sex are separate constructs. For most people they align. For a small percentage of people they are incongruent. Because gender is a continuum there are varying degrees of discomfort.
And stupider still:
The bill would also affect counseling for unwanted same-sex attraction. This type of counseling has helped thousands of young people deal with unwanted same-sex attraction, which is correlated with childhood sexual abuse. But if H 110 passes, these young people will only be allowed to get counseling that encourages homosexuality, even if that is not what the teen wants.
In some circles of Christendom there is the belief that all gay people were sexually abused. There is no relationship between sexual abuse and sexual orientation. Moreover, it is the conclusion of the entire healthcare profession that conversion therapy does not work and is potentially toxic.

The only reason that a teen is unable to accept their sexual orientation is religious shaming, often by parents. So rather than subject the kid to ineffective pseudoscience it makes more sense for everyone to accept a child's sexual orientation. Conversion therapy — at best — teaches a child to pretend to be straight. It deals a terrible blow to a child's psyche and robs them of ego strengths. It's also temporary.

Family Policy Alliance wants people to click on a link that will spam the Massachusetts legislature. These people should have more productive things to do. This measure is likely to pass and then to be signed into law. It is long overdue. Opposition to the ban amounts to the promotion of child abuse.
