As an aside, in April, 2017, Rep. Sims was very entertaining.
State Rep. Brian Sims got fed up with the protests of Planned Parenthood in his district which include the harassment by religious zealots of every patient walking through the door. Sims confronted one of these hypocrites. As Hemant Mehta points out:
If protesters like this woman wanted to help children, as they always claim, there are a number of ways they could do it. But pro-lifers don’t give a damn about children. They just put unborn fetuses on a pedestal while missing the bigger picture.
They’re not focused on adoption, or making sure poor women have health insurance to care for their kids, or making sure kids have guaranteed educational opportunities, or making sure woman have free and easy access to birth control and contraception, or making sure kids get comprehensive sex education in school so that they don’t get pregnant when they’re not ready for a child.
Rep. Sims asked the woman a series of questions including how many children she fed, clothed or put shoes on. Silence. Sims also asked the woman if she protested any Catholic churches for all the harm that the Church has done to children. Silence. My only criticism of Sims is that this went on for too long. He made his point and should have moved on so as not to appear to have badgered the woman. Everything that Rep. Sims did was perfectly legal.
Getting back to Blowhard Bill:
On May 7, the Catholic League contacted every member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. We sought their support for our call to censure Rep. Brian Sims for his unprovoked bullying and his vicious anti-Catholicism.Needless to say the Pennsylvania House ignored Donohue. Moreover, Sims' was provoked because the Planned Parenthood is in his district and clients were being bullied. Sims did harass the woman just as the woman was harassing every person who walked into the clinic. The woman is a hypocrite who was attempting to impose her religious views on others. Sims, by the way, is Catholic himself. Sims has admitted that he was too aggressive:
Sims not only harassed an elderly Catholic woman for praying in front of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Philadelphia, and on another occasion he became equally aggressive attempting to intimidate three teenage girls. He even offered $100 to anyone who would identify the girls, hoping to have protesters show up at their house to badger them.
I will fiercely protect a woman’s right to make the best choices for her health & her body, unimpeded. I also know that two wrongs don’t make a right, especially on the front lines of a civil rights battle. I can do better, and I will do better, for the women of Pennsylvania. pic.twitter.com/jURL1UX9qE— Brian Sims (@BrianSimsPA) May 7, 2019
More from Blowhard Bill:
Sims, who refuses to apologize—it is too late for him to do so now—is a radical LGBT activist who has a history of unethical behavior. He has been investigated for several instances of financial improprieties, ripping off the taxpayers to pay for his junkets.Yes Bill. We all know that Rep. Sims is gay and that you do not approve. Sims was once president of Equality Pennsylvania. I do not think that makes him a “radical LGBT activist.” I can find nothing regarding investigations of Sims for financial improprieties. Donohue provides no details. Suffice it to say that he has not been found to have done anything wrong. At Planned Parenthood Mr. Sims was exercising his First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom from religion.
His latest stunt is far worse. There is no place in public office for any person who bullies innocent women and girls for peacefully exercising their First Amendment right to freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
Accordingly, we are now upping the ante, asking PA House members to support Pennsylvania State Republican Chairman Val DiGiorgio in his quest for a criminal probe. I am also writing to Philadelphia D.A. Larry Krasner asking him to launch a criminal investigation of Sims; such a probe is currently under review.“We” means Blowhard Bill. I still do not know what law Sims broke. A “probe” is not under review. Donohue's letter is under review. What a waste of tax dollars.
