Trump admin parrots hate group rhetoric in opposition to the Equality Act

“After all, why study an issue when a cut-and-paste is readily available.”

It should come as no surprise that the Trump/Pence administration opposes the Equality Act. Trump has not done anything for the benefit of LGBT Americans since he came into office. If Richard Allen Grenell, the openly gay ambassador to Germany, had any semblance of dignity or integrity he would resign. He doesn't. He won't.

According to the Washington Blade:
With a vote on the Equality Act in the U.S. House expected on Friday, a senior administration official indicated exclusively to the Washington Blade that President Trump opposes the bill.

“The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,” the senior administration official said via email.
Anti-LGBT groups have claimed, as a scare tactic, that the Equality Act eliminates “parental rights” in some convoluted fashion related to transgender and gender nonconforming kids. Trump has simply repeated a mindless talking point since the Equality Act does not affect parental rights in any way whatsoever. After all, why study an issue when a cut-and-paste is readily available.

Conscience rights” are not rights at all. They are the self-manufactured privileges of religious conservatives that would permit them to discriminate against people whom they disapprove of. All neatly cloaked in scripture of course which makes it permissible. Therefore, the Trump administration does not “oppose discrimination of any kind.”

Nancy Pelosi is a very smart person. She knew this was the case going in. I am guessing that she wants to get people on the record. The bill will pass the House on Friday. Then we will see if McConnell will allow it to even come up for debate in the Senate.

Will there still be some self-loathing LGBT people who support Trump in 2020? Probably. Many are just looking for some attention I suppose.
