Hate group leader: "Parental Alert on Sexuality-Based Recruiting Efforts Aimed at Kids"

Tim Wildmon
Yet again Tim Wildmon, a frantic anti-LGBT bigot, is claiming that LGBT people pose a threat to children.

Hate Group Leader Tim Wildmon (American Family Association) is warning parents of “efforts to 'normalize' homosexuality, same-sex marriage and the transgender lifestyle among our nation’s youngest citizens.” The intended inference is that we are determined to turn children gay or transgender. Be afraid!
“Parents, beware,” declared Tim Wildmon, AFA’s president, in remarks shared with LifeZette this week. “The LGBT social-political agenda is out there. We all see it every day, but it is targeting our children and teenagers, and the agenda is being promoted in the mainstream popular culture. These recruiting efforts are aimed at children and teens because they are impressionable.”
Tim Wildmon is neither intelligent nor ingenious but he, like Don Wildmon before him, is a cynical bigot. “Normalizing” LGBT people means, in part, that Wildmon fears that people will be less receptive to his promotion of anti-LGBT hate. Inclusiveness is a direct threat and it puts Wildmon at odds with medical science.

The simple truth is that sexual orientation and gender identity are independent continua. Combined, they define our sexuality. According to medical science, every point on both scales represents a natural and normal variant of human sexuality. The extreme ends of the gender identity continuum are male and female. Most people are at, or near one of the ends. The extreme ends of the sexual orientation continuum are heterosexual and homosexual. Most people are at, or near, heterosexual.

Then there are the rest of us. We are the sexual minorities. Some of us are gay or bisexual. Some of us have incongruent gender and natal sex. Some of us are even gay or bisexual and have incongruent gender identities. Nature defies biblical simplicity.

Our sexuality is both involuntary and highly resistant to the influences of others. While we might experience some fluidity external interventions will not induce any changes. LGBT people cannot turn children gay or trans. It is impossible.
“Choice” is an essential element of prejudice and discrimination:
For his system to work, Wildmon must hold and promote the idea — irrespective of evidence to the contrary — that gender identity and sexual orientation are choices. It is virtually impossible for Tim Wildmon to accept the reality (his form of reality) that his god makes people who are gay or who experience incongruent gender. Moreover, American Family Association exists to promote bigotry towards LGBT people. That is hard to do once you concede that sexuality is entirely organic.
Add unimaginative thinking and you have a hate group:
Critical thinkers seek answers to important questions. They do so by seeking evidence to support or dismiss a theory. Tim Wildmon has all the answers. They are in his book. Instead of seeking answers to questions, Wildmon is seeking arguments to convince himself and others of predetermined conclusions. Wildmon's thought process is the exact opposite of critical thinking. Coaxing people to accept a set of social norms causes them to be incurious. It is easy to convince incurious people that others who are different are thus evil.
Just how are we “recruiting” children?
Wildmon has a numbered list of ways that we recruit:
  1. The tax-funded PBS Kids aired a gay marriage on the “Arthur” cartoon this spring. …
  2. Target department stores are not only offering clothing and accessories for both adults and children to celebrate the gay lifestyle; the company has also pledged to donate $100,000 to the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), an organization whose primary focus is instructing school-aged students on how to create “gay” clubs in public schools across the nation. …
  3. Converse exploited an 11-year-old boy, Desmond, who calls himself a “drag kid,” to show that the company is “connected to the LGBTQ+ community” and to promote its “Pride Collection.” Child Protective Services investigated the boy’s family after a video surfaced showing him performing in drag at a gay club in Brooklyn.
  4. The blockbuster Marvel film “Avengers: Endgame” appeared to have a gay character shoe-horned into a scene to satisfy the LGBT agenda and reach a younger audience.
  5. Drag Queen Story Hours have been taking place at local public and school libraries nationwide over the past year. The disturbing events involve men dressed up as garishly adorned women; they read LGBTQ-themed books to young children …
[…]
Wildmon also said on this issue, “Christian parents and grandparents, we must remain vigilant. If you have young children or teenagers, be aware that these kinds of attacks are coming from mainstream media products like magazines, movies, music and more, often in a subtle and underhanded way.”

Wildmon added, “We must pray for our young people — that they will stay close to the Word of God and its never-changing truth.”
Do people not realize how profoundly silly this all is? They are also getting lied to. For example, GLSEN does not create “gay clubs.” They help schools create gay/straight alliances. As for Converse, Wildmon has it backwards. Desmond is Amazing (Desmond Napoles), his parents and his management exploited Converse.

There is also a lie of omission. CPS investigated the Napoles family because of idiotic Christian pests and meddlers. Desmond's parents were decisively cleared and Wendy Napoles, Desmond's mother, posted the documents online. If anyone is exploiting Desmond, it is the fundamentalist Christians who use him to promote anti-LGBT bigotry.

In the final paragraphs, Tim Wildmon portrays inclusiveness as an “attack.” In the final analysis, inclusiveness does influence children:
  1. They are kinder to people who are different — The Other.
  2. Children who are The Other gain self-esteem.
It is really necessary to label LGBTQ children as evil little perverts? Wildmon added a reference to a “never-changing truth.” Who gets to define truth? The overwhelming majority of observant Christians and Jews disagree with Wildmon. They rely on the same texts but do not believe in literalism. Does Mr. Wildmon have answers for all of the stuff in his book that is flat-out wrong? Did Wildmon's Old Testament come with a passage in Leviticus highlighted with yellow marker?

For as long as Wildmon and others at American Family Association refer to things like recruiting children, American Family Association will be deemed a hate group. They cannot blame the Southern Poverty Law Center. They can only blame themselves. Sadly, the next generation is as clueless as the current Wildmons at the helm. Walker Wildmon and Wesley Wildmon are incurious and unimaginative thinkers. They are as hateful and idiotic as Tim who learned to hate from his father, Donald Wildmon.

Don is a rabid anti-Semite. Presumably that got passed along too.  The entire organization promotes anti-Muslim hate openly. We are teaching kids to be kind. They are teaching kids to hate. Who poses the greater threat to children?
