The latest anti-LGBT fear mongering and outright lies from Tony Perkins

Once again, a self-righteous fundamentalist Christian who presumes to be an arbiter of morality is caught lying through his teeth.

Heritage Foundation continues to provide blog space to hate group leader Tony Perkins (Family Research Council). Friday's spew from Perkins is titled: Vermont Poised to Let Kids, Not Parents, Make Gender Decisions.
Like his idol, Mr. Trump, Tony Perkins is a pathological liar:
Most schools can’t give a child an aspirin without getting a parent’s OK. But in Vermont, kids are about to get a whole lot more than Tylenol. Under a new rule, they’ll be able to get entirely new bodies—in some cases, without ever calling home.
No Mr. Perkins. No. Not one word of the above is true.
If you thought the war on parents’ rights was bad now, just wait. The Green Mountain State just dropped a massive bombshell in the transgender fight.

According to local media, Vermont’s health insurance regulators are about to overhaul the state’s Medicaid rules, forcing taxpayers to cover the cost of everything from genital surgery to a mastectomy for minors.
There is no such thing as the “transgender fight.” Fundamentalist Christians, in defiance of medical science insist that transgender people do not really exist. More importantly, Medicaid rules determines what the state will pay for. They do not have any effect on the requirements for parental consent.
And that’s not the worst of it. With a simple judge’s note, they can bypass mom and dad altogether.

That’s because the state is also adding language for a judicial bypass, which, as most pro-lifers know, is how the left manages to get around parental consent laws on abortion.

Now, with the stroke of a judge’s pen, young people can keep their parents in the dark, as they choose from 16 different ways to disfigure their bodies.
What is involved is not a “simple judge's note.” When the courts determine non-parental rights of minors, parents must be informed because they have the right to pose an objection. The only exception is for emancipated minors which is an entirely separate matter. Judicial review of medical care is based on the unwillingness of parents to conform to the best medical advice for their child. A child should not have to suffer because of fundamentalist Christian ignorance and bigotry.

Untreated, children have an extraordinarily high rate of suicide. Nevertheless, no judge is going to overrule parents without significant medical evidence from qualified physicians. Those “16 ways” comes with a link to an article in Breitbart. One paragraph is important:
A new rule proposed at the end of May will allow children and teens covered by Medicaid and who have parental consent to begin sex reassignment surgeries at younger ages, said Nissa James, Department of Vermont Health Access policy director, reported the Burlington Free Press.
Poor Tony Perkins. Even Breitbart says that he is full of crap. And this is from a link that Perkins supplied. Did he not bother to read the article he cited? Perhaps.
Dr. Rachel Inker, who heads up the Transgender Health Clinic at the Community Health Centers of Burlington, cheered the move. “Having young people have to wait until they were 21 just didn’t really make any sense.”

Tell that to the American College of Pediatricians, which has been warning about rushing minors into these life-altering decisions for years.
I agree with Dr. Inker. If a youth has been in transition for years and wants gender confirmation surgery and has the recommendations of their psychiatrist and has been in pre-surgical counseling and has the recommendation of their counselor and agrees to intensive counseling after surgery and fully understands the risks and impact and has surgical approval and has hospital approval and has parental consent, there is no reason for them to have to wait.

The American College of Pediatricians is a minuscule anti-LGBT hate group (2017 revenues=$107,005). The real peer organization is the American Academy of Pediatrics. The opinions of Michelle Cretella, its executive director, are those of the Catholic Church and have no relevance to medical standards of practice. Indeed, the American Academy of Pediatrics has endorsed the gender-affirmative care model.
While Vermont insists on locking them into this new identity, surgeons like Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic—who do this kind of reassignment surgery for a living—are horrified that anyone would push children to embrace these fleeting feelings.

It’s a mistake, he insists. If the age limit for surgeries is reduced, he says, he would refuse his services.
Djordjevic, who practices in Serbia, has a special need for press coverage. He is certainly entitled to his opinion. If he is overruled by a U.S. surgeon and a youth's medical providers and parents then who should decide?
What these kids need, said one of the foremost experts in the field—Johns Hopkins’ Dr. Paul McHugh—is psychological help …
Privately, Perkins probably calls McHugh a “papist.” McHugh is near 90 and has not practiced medicine in decades. He is also a fundamentalist Catholic who places Church teachings above medical realities. McHugh is also at odds with the entire mainstream medical establishment and he has never published research to a respected academic journal demonstrating the effectiveness of talk therapy for gender dysphoria. McHugh is also an advocate of gay conversion therapy.
America needs to step back from the activism, the ideologies, and other voices, and consider what we’re doing to our children. Because if Vermont isn’t thinking about the risks, someone has to.
Perkins is substituting his religious judgment for (again) the desires of a youth who has been in transition for years and wants gender confirmation surgery and has the recommendations of their psychiatrist and has been in pre-surgical counseling and has the recommendation of their counselor and agrees to intensive counseling after surgery and fully understands the risks and impact and has surgical approval and has hospital approval and has parental consent.

In other words, who the fuck is Tony Perkins — a hate group leader — to even suggest a course of action? Perkins' problem has nothing to do with the best interests of anyone. His concern is a conflicting passage in Genesis. And what did any of this belch have to do with parental rights, as promised?
