Irrationality defined: Misgendering Laverne Cox

Religious fundamentalists cannot accept the simple proposition that transgender people exist.

Martin M. Barillas is a radical Catholic extremist. Martin M. Barillas is also terribly distressed: Meghan Markle praises gender-confused man as ‘woman of impact’ in Vogue magazine. Behold: One day God said: “Let there be sedatives” and God called his creation Xanax and God saw that the calming effect was good. Too good for some but I digress.

For the record, Meghan Markle, by virtue of being married to Prince Harry, is the Duchess of Sussex. I am not into the entire concept of royalty but that does not demean the individuals who are part of the British royal family.

At the outset you will note that Mr. Barillas is incapable of writing “transgender woman.” He cannot accept a simple concept, supported by countless peer-reviewed articles in respected academic journals, that people become transgender as the only means of mitigating the effects of gender dysphoria. In fact, Mr. Barillas cannot accept what is an irrefutable fact; that gender and natal sex are separate constructs.

Eventually Barillas writes (I will quote only the first third of the paragraph):
Laverne Cox, the former Roderick Laverne Cox, said in a 2018 video for Self that he began chemically adjusting his hormones “20 years ago.” He was raised by a single mother and grandmother and is best known for playing the role of Sophia Burset on the award-winning series Orange Is the New Black, which chronicles the lives of incarcerated lesbians and other women. In June, Cox revealed on Instagram that he had broken up with Kyle Draper …
Being an ignoramus for the faith seems like a terrible waste of brain cells. Faced with an objective reality one is required to deny its existence. According to medical science a transgender woman is, for all practical purposes, a woman. Barillas would likely say that reality is defined by chromosomes which is to deny the further reality that gender exists apart from natal sex.

Mr. Barillas chooses to be a religious zealot in part because of the Vatican. The so-called College for Catholic Education recently released a treatise titled:
“Male and female He created them” Towards a path of dialogue on the question of gender theory in education.
The section in quotes is from Genesis 1:27. Gender is not a theory which is subject to questioning. Are they suggesting a dialogue regarding faith-based scripture or evidence-based science? Those are separate discussions with very different forms of validation.

It seems to me that they are begging the question which is a logical fallacy. The Vatican asserts that there is a crisis. If that is true it is of their own making. You can read the statement in full at the link above. I find it pompous, pedantic and stilted.

Most American Catholics are open minded on issues of sexuality. Mr. Barillas (nationality unknown) is presumably addressing an audience that will not be critical. Nor will that audience pose questions that Mr. Barillas could not possibly answer because he chooses not to even be familiar with the science because it is at odds with his religious perceptions. Purposeful incuriosity induces confirmation bias which is the antithesis of critical thinking and “a systematic error of inductive reasoning.” (Wikipedia)
