People should send money to NOM because of Beto O'Rourke

Brian S. Brown
According to Brian S. Brown, on behalf of National Organization for Marriage:
In a desperate attempt to save his laughable campaign for the Democratic nomination, Beto O'Rourke placed a bet on the anti-religious bigotry increasingly prevalent on the Left, when speaking at a recent CNN Town Hall.

O'Rourke said he would remove tax-exempt status from any Church, charity, Christian school, or other institution that opposes same-sex 'marriage.'
Who's being desperate?

Brown has not earned the right to call anyone else a bigot. Brian S. Brown is a bigot. He works tirelessly to marginalize LGBTQ people. NOM was created to oppose marriage equality; not out of reason but because the Catholic Church disapproves of gay people. To thwart marriage equality, Brown and his ilk told a pack of lies about gay people.

Brown has claimed that we are unstable, diseased, terrible parents, promiscuous, unscrupulous and in need of conversion therapy. Brown's biggest lie — one that he told over and over again — was that marriage equality would somehow destroy traditional marriage.

Over the last couple of years, Brian S. Brown has been riding a new hobby horse. He has been working to marginalize transgender people. More times than I can count Brown has referred to “transgender ideology” which expresses the false idea that transgender people are adherents to a philosophy or doctrine. In point of fact people are transgender to mitigate the effects of gender dysphoria.

None of this spewed hate is even original. Brown is simply parroting or adapting the anti-LGBTQ bullshit which emanates from the Vatican. In other words, someone who is unconditionally subservient to an ideology is falsely claiming that people with a medical condition share a common ideology.

I happen to disagree with Mr. O'Rourke because I think that viewpoint discrimination could come around to bite us in the butt. However, it is not bigotry to be intolerant of bigots.

This is just one more lame attempt by Brown to conjure up some reason why people should donate money to NOM. Were potential donors to consider the matter pragmatically, National Organization for Marriage, through 2017, has burned through about $70 million and has absolutely nothing to show for it. It was formed to oppose same-sex marriage. It lost.

At various times Brian S. Brown has claimed that, due to NOM, the Supreme Court will reverse marriage equality. It is delusional thinking. There never was a secular reason to oppose same-sex marriage and none has materialized since United States v. Windsor (2013) and Obergefell v. Hodges (2015).

Reversing a ruling to conform to some (not all) religious beliefs; one that has the support of about 70% of our citizenry seems very unlikely. The support exists and has probably grown because none of the terrible things that the religious right promised have come to pass. The self-righteous moralists lied!

Mr. Brown contorts to kiss his own ass:
Of course, we have long predicted this. I and others at NOM have been saying for years that the LGBT talking points were a bluff:
  • They said they'd leave Churches alone...
  • They said "it wouldn't affect us"...
  • They said it was "live and let live"...
But they're coming for us.
That is as believable as the notion that NOM actually does anything other than ask for money in order to continue to exist so that it can ask for money.
