Proof of Concept: Stupid people don't know they are stupid

American Family Association, an anti-LGBTQ hate group, began its failed boycott of Target Stores in April, 2016. It began with a lie. 3½ years later, AFA's president, Tim Wildmon, continues to lie in an attempt to “prove” that he did not lie in the first place.

AFA's actions have never been rooted in concern for shoppers' safety. What this is about — what it has always been about — is disdain for LGBTQ people, transgender people in particular. Target's accommodation of gender diverse people is an affront to Wildmon's fundamentalist Christian beliefs.

April 21, 2016:
On its web site this week, Target announced, "[W]e welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity. ...Everyone deserves to feel like they belong."
[…]
Target's policy is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims. And with Target publicly boasting that men can enter women's bathrooms, where do you think predators are going to go?
October 30, 2019:
Target policy: The attacks on children keep coming

Ross Township police in Pennsylvania are investigating a report of a man lurking around the local Target store's dressing rooms, suspected of taking pictures of an underage girl who was trying on clothes. Target's dressing rooms are located in the back, right corner of the store and are open to everyone.
It remains spectacularly stupid to claim that accommodating gender diverse staff and customers has any connection to the activities of perverts taking illicit photos. Claiming otherwise is not just a confusion between correlation and causation. There isn't even a logical correlation.

Further dishonesty is apparent because Wildmon did not bother to mention that the incident in Ross Township occurred on July 30, 2019 making it highly improbable that “police … are investigating” the incident.
The man got away, which means Target's dangerous policy will allow him to return to repeat his crime on another day.
Just how intellectually inept is Mr. Wildmon? Were Target to change their policy tomorrow and post notices on every dressing room, segregating them by natal sex, that would have no effect, one way of the other, on the behavior of this pervert. That assumes that the incident happened in the first place which is not necessarily the case.
AFA continues to sound the alarm that Target's policy of allowing men to enter women's dressing areas and restrooms puts women and underage girls in danger.
AFA does do that and it doesn't make a whit of common sense.

Wildmon goes on to ask people to alert their friends about the boycott and — of course — to send AFA some money. It should be obvious — even to a dunce like Tim Wildmon — that:
  1. AFA's actions have not impacted Target Corporation's revenues.
  2. Target shares are trading at an all-time high.
  3. There is no chance that Target is going to change its policy.
  4. AFA's boycott is a complete failure.
