Liberty Counsel offers its services to North Carolina

Mat Staver - Liberty Counsel
The anti-gay hate group, Liberty Counsel, sent a letter Wednesday to the North Carolina House and Senate offering pro bono services in defense of the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. The act strips a number of political sub-divisions of nondiscrimination laws protecting gay and transgender citizens. The letter sign by Mat Staver is critical of North Carolina AG Roy Cooper who is refusing to defend the new law. According to Staver:
Despite his unjustified refusal (which is a disturbing commentary on modern legal ethics, and potentially grounds for impeachment), Liberty Counsel is ready and able to provide that defense, should our assistance be desired.
And no. Discretion is not grounds for impeachment. Liberty Counsel doesn't seem to win any of the litigation that they get involved in.

Let us have some Christian supremacy indoctrination

The anti-gay Minnesota Family Council (MFC) is organizing its annual one-week summer boot camp for high school students — MN Student Statesmanship Institute. MFC is headed by John Helmberger who – prior to Obergefell – framed civil marriage as a “battle between God and gays.” He has also claimed that there is no such thing as the separation of church and state.

Another dishonest Christian weighs in on North Carolina

John Stonestreet
John Stonestreet, a theologian and fellow at the far right Colson Center, has provided a polemic Thursday at the Christian Post critical of the NFL and NBA. His piece is titled “NBA, NFL Choose Sides in Culture War Battles.” I am seriously trying to understand what turns a theologian into a demagogue. to that end I sent Stonestreet a polite email to see if he is willing and able to defend some of his statements. At the very outset of this piece I have a problem:
Last week, North Carolina lawmakers — led by the Lt. Governor and leader of the house, ran a backdoor play of sorts to overturn a new Charlotte ordinance known as "the bathroom bill." As you can probably guess, the bill mandated that Charlotte businesses allow individuals access to the restroom of their choice.

Trump's gaffe was telling the truth

Wire Hanger
Wednesday evening presidential hopeful Donald Trump told Chris Matthews that, were abortion illegal, women who have abortions should be punished (he has since tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube). This ignited the ire of Left and Right. GOP competitor Ted Cruz was the first to comment claiming that women should not be punished for their abortions. Cruz is full of crap.

Tossup: Is Charisma News nuttier than Michael Brown?

Someone at CharismaNews seems to have gone a tad overboard with a headline that reads: “ Levi's, Twitter, Apple and About 80 Other Companies That Support Perversion.” Actually, if you read their letter, those businesses support their bottom line.
The business community, by and large, has consistently communicated to lawmakers at every level that such laws are bad for our employees and bad for business.

Austin Ruse is just as offensive in Portuguese

Hate Map courtesy of Southern Poverty Law Center - 3/16
Hate Map courtesy of Southern Poverty Law Center
Last night Austin Ruse posted a polemic in Portuguese regarding the Spanish speaking Dominican Republic — perhaps targeting a constituency in Brazil. Go figure. Ruse is president of the anti-gay hate group C-Fam. According to Ruse (via Google Translate):
The Catholic bishops of the Dominican Republic reacted strongly to the US move on gay issues. The letter released last week condemned the actions of the homosexual activist who is the US ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

Besides being the US ambassador in a country with a Catholic majority, James "Wally" Brewster is a financier of the Democratic Party and a homosexual activist linked to anti-Christian campaign called Human Rights Campaign.

GOPer governor is a liar

Pat McCrory - NC Governor
Republican Governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, has now resorted to lying about the effect of recent anti-gay legislation. According to the New York Times McCrory defended his signature in a testy news conference on Monday, insisting that the new law did not take away existing protections.

That is not only a lie but it is a stunningly stupid lie. The very purpose of the legislation was to nullify municipal nondiscrimination laws. Indeed, the legislation was in direct reaction to Charlotte's  broadened ordinance which included protections for transgender citizens.

UPDATED: Timber Creek Bed & Breakfast fined $81,000 for turning away gay couple

Timber Creek B&B
Timber Creek Bed & Breakfast in Paxton, Illinois has been fined $81,000 by the state's Human Rights Commission. In 2011 the B&B's owner, Jim Walder, refused to host a gay couple's commitment ceremony. The couple, Todd and Mark Wathen, will receive $30,000. An additional $51,000 was assessed in legal fees and court costs.

UPDATE: According to the B&B's website:

With exquisite originality and cleverness NOM and FRC label LGBTs as 'intolerant'

Two hate group leaders, Brian Brown and Tony Perkins have decided that their best strategy is to turn the tables on LGBT citizens and label us as intolerant. Let's start with Mr. Misadventure, Brian S. Brown of National Organization for Marriage.

Aside from the odd choice of graphics (it is rather weird butch), his email starts out:
I'm writing to ask you to act immediately to fight back against intolerant religious bigots who are intent on forcing a radical view of human nature on society even when common sense flies in the face of their dangerous agenda. Please act immediately to thank North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory for standing strong and resisting the push to allow men in intimate facilities like showers, locker rooms and restrooms that are reserved for girls and women.

Oh, poor Ryan T. Anderson - People resist discrimination

Ryan T. Anderson
Ryan T. Anderson is extremely upset that businesses are boycotting North Carolina over the state's nullification of a nondiscrimination ordinance in Charlotte. In a new post on Heritage Foundation's blog, Anderson calls it “Textbook Cultural Cronyism.” Anderson, who I suspect is a closeted gay man is also a mindless Defender of the Faith™. His views are those of the Vatican. He does not believe that transgender people exist — they are just confused.

That image on the right is from Twitter. Anderson looks like a mad monk in a suit.

According to Anderson:

A shameless Tony Perkins repeats the same lies

Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
Hate group leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council reacted Monday night to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal's veto of an anti-gay “religious liberty” bill. According to Perkins:
The Devil has gone down to Georgia again, but this time it was in the form of big business and cowardly politicians.
No person or nonprofit should lose tax exempt status, face fines, lose a professional license or be punished by the government simply for believing what President Obama believed just a few years ago, that marriage is the union of a man and a woman. State coercion of faith-based organizations and their millions of adherents for the sake of a radical ideological agenda -- all in the name of 'freedom' -- is an affront not just to Georgians but to all Americans.

National Organization for the Promotion of Religious Homophobia

Having lost on marriage Brian Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage, has found a new hobby. In spite of Brown's numerous misadventures and serial ineptitude people are, apparently, still willing to fund NOM to exist as an anti-LGBT hate group. Brown has become as reliable as Tony Perkins in opposing simple equality for LGBT citizens.

Today Brown writes: “Victory, Betrayal and Backlash.” The victory, of course, would be the nullification of Charlotte's non-discrimination ordinance by the good Christians of North Carolina. The matter is now in litigation and may prove to be no victory at all.

NC Dem explains his vote FOR discrimination

Howard Hunter III with family
Howard Hunter, III of Ahoskie was one of 12 Democrats who vote with Republicans in favor of North Carolina House Bill 2 (which nullified Charlotte's anti-discrimination ordinance). He did so out of sheer ignorance — believing the anti-LGBT talking points.

It is worth noting that Monday morning two transgender people, a law school professor and civil liberties groups filed a lawsuit in federal court in an effort to have it declared unconstitutional. But I digress. Hunter's legislative “logic” is instructive given that he crossed over to the dark side.

Franklin Graham vs. NFL Christian Persecution

Franklin Graham
Franklin Graham claims that the National Football League is targeting and persecuting Christians. The always angry and dependably anti-gay Graham needs mood stabilizers. At issue is a threat from the NFL to deprive Georgia of a possible Super Bowl game if Governor Nathan Deal signs what amounts to a license-to-discriminate into law.

According to Graham:
Atlanta is a great location for the Super Bowl, but the NFL has come out against Georgia's religious exemptions bill, threatening that it could impact Atlanta's consideration in the Super Bowl selection process for 2019 and 2020. LGBT forces and corporate super powers are using this threat to try to stop the bill that would protect pastors from performing same-sex marriages and give faith-based organizations permission to deny use of their facilities for things outside their religious beliefs.

Ted Cruz' Council-of-Theocrats submits its proposals

Ted Cruz
Ted Cruz is probably not going to be the next President of the United States. Nevertheless, his Religious Liberty Advisory Council (chaired by none other than hate group leader Tony Perkins) has submitted its initial recommendations for an incoming administration. You can read the full document here but some highlights are in order:
Issue an Executive Order protecting persons from discrimination by the federal government on the basis of their view that marriage is between a man and a woman (this executive order could model the protections in the First Amendment Defense Act).

Call for passage of the First Amendment Defense Act.

Brian Brown is just so fucking clueless

I have often joked that Brian S. Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage is afflicted with reverse-midas touch. Rest assured that it is not an affliction causing his catastrophes. Rather, it is impossibly bad judgment.

Today, Brown sent out an email titled “We wish you a blessed Easter.” The text begins:
All of us at NOM wish you and your family a Blessed Easter. This is one of the holiest times of year as Christians recall the passion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Christ on Easter is the most consequential day in human history. It is the single most important event that has ever occurred, giving proof to God's promise of everlasting life in heaven for those who believe in Jesus, our Savior and Lord. In Him, our sins are forgiven and we have the promise of eternity.

Laurie Higgins makes no sense whatsoever

Laurie Higgins
Laurie Higgins is the propagandist for Illinois Family Institute (a designated anti-gay hate group). Today, Higgins is responsible for a piece on American Family Association's “news” blog titled: “Homosexual activists work to silence the church.” American Family Association is also designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. But I digress.

Has Chad Griffin gone insane?

The very insulated Chad Griffin seems to have lost his mind. On March 11 the Human Rights Campaign endorsed Republican Senator Mark Kirk over Democrat Tammy Duckworth. I have been thinking about this for a few days. I get that HRC would like to appear non-partisan and Mark Kirk is a good guy but this is a farce. Kirk holds one of the most endangered Republican Senate seats. The seat should flip to Democratic in November at a time when Democrats have an opportunity to take control of the Senate.

Some years ago then Senator Joe Biden was interviewed about an upcoming election. He said that whether he remained ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with Dick Lugar as chairman or became chairman with Lugar as ranking member it wouldn't really make much difference. Well those days of comity are at and end.

Dominican priest posts sign barring US ambassador from premises because he is gay

A Catholic Priest and school head in the Dominican Republic, Father Manuel Ruiz, has posted three signs on school property that US Ambassador Brewster is not permitted on the premises. As best as I can determine Ambassador Brewster had no intention of visiting the school so posting the sign was nothing more than childish provocation. It is no surprise.

Where was Caitlyn?

I don't know where Caitlyn Jenner is today but I can tell you where she should have been. Her fabulous celebrity ass should have been in North Carolina. She should have been quizzing legislators on which bathroom she should use.

Tony Perkins hears a hate group echo

American College of Pediatricians vs. American Academy of Pediatrics
Family Research Council and the American College of Pediatricians are both designated as anti-LGBT hate groups. On Tuesday, Tony Perkins, head of FRC, claimed that a statement from ACP “dismantles” the trans movement. What he really means is that the propaganda from another right-wing Christian operation conflicts with the considered opinion of the many recognized professional peer groups including the American Psychiatric Association.

Sometimes these bishops should just shut the hell up

Charles J. Chaput
And that was the polite phrasing. Charles J. Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia found himself addressing Brigham Young University today. Presumably the archbishop was seeking an audience that stands on some common ground. This is a small part of what he had to say:

The way things work: NFL opposes anti-gay discrimination therefore it "discriminates against Christians"

We're glad Georgia's on your mind - unless you are gay
Steve McConkey heads a “sports ministry — Four Winds Christian Athletics. This week it is based in Madison, Wisconsin (it moves around a lot). McConkey likes to issue press releases via Christian Newswire. Today's spew is titled “NFL Joins Forces with Homosexual Elites to Discriminate Against Christians.”

At issue is Georgia HB-757. As I previously wrote, the bill provides an affirmative defense to charges of discrimination. That has the effect of obliterating local ordinances such as the one in Atlanta. HB-757 was originally the Pastor Protection Act. It was merged with SB-284, First Amendment Defense Act. It is now titled Act to protect religious freedoms (which means the freedom to discriminate).

A transgender entrepreneur starts a regulatory compliance biz

Carolyn Weiss
Carolyn Weiss is a 32-year veteran employee of the City of Los Angeles who transitioned seven years ago at the age of 55. She has now started an enterprise to help California businesses comply with state transgender rights laws.

Quoting from her press release, the big question facing businesses in California is how to best handle an employee who is transitioning on the job, often after years of service to the company? Most importantly, what is legal under California employment law? Ms. Weiss' new company, Transgender Business Services hopes to answer those questions.

Witherspoon conspiracy theorist claims that the "wrong women" are voting

Mary Rice Hasson
Mary Rice Hasson writes “Women and the Power to Change the World” at Witherspoon Institute's pseudo-intellectual blog (Public Discourse). Hasson is a “fellow” with the Ethics and Public Policy Center. In other words, she enjoys a pretentious academic title at an organization with a $4 million annual operating budget. For perspective, Witherspoon Institute is an ultra-orthodox Catholic organization founded by Robert P. George and Luis E. Tellez. Tellez is an Opus Dei numerary (a secular celibate). Hasson's piece is verbose — I want to address just one section:

Apparently God picks winners and losers

In spite of James Madison's best thinking we permit fanciful religious doctrine to be imposed on public policy.
English: A Blue Bird Vision school bus with a ...

The title of the story at Charisma News reads “Miraculous Stories Like This Prove God Is Real.” The miracle, it seems, was that children were not on a school bus when a concrete slab from a collapsing building in Pennsylvania crashed into a school bus. God's hand was at work when the bus discharged students (per the schedule) prior to the accident.

Meet Tennessean Henry Seaton

Henry Seaton
Henry Seaton is a typical teen-aged boy. Henry Seaton is also a  transgender boy. It is helpful to put a face on the receiving end of Tennessee's bigorty. In his own words:
I’m a boy – I live my life as a boy, my friends know me as a boy, my parents accept me as a boy. But now I have to use the teacher’s bathroom because a bunch of politicians feel uncomfortable with who I am? That’s not right.

Scripture Over Science - The American College of Pediatricians

Religion belongs in a house of worship — not in the exam room where science should prevail

The conservative Christian organization, American College of Pediatricians, is out with a new “report” regarding transgender children. This should not be confused with the peer reviewed scientific research published by the American Academy of Pediatrics which is the real professional organization. Let us compare:

American College of Pediatricians American Academy of Pediatrics
Purpose Christian Organization Professional Organization
Membership 200 60,000
2014 Budget $333,580 $109,674,824
State Chapters 0 50

This is how Dems take control of the Senate

Let's face the simple fact that LGBT rights are largely dependent upon Democrats. This new advertisement from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is just the start now that Trump looks like the GOP's presidential nominee. Taking control of the House is a bit trickier.

By not voting every year progressives have allowed Republicans to take control of a majority of state legislatures. In 23 states Republicans control both houses of the legislature and have a Republican governor. In eight other states, Republicans control both houses of the legislature. Here is the breakdown from Wikipedia:

Meanwhile an Italian exorcist explains how to tell if someone is demon-possessed

A Movie Trailer Featuring Father de Meo. Matteo, by the way was an exorcist who died in 1616

Father Cipriano de Meo, who has been an exorcist since 1952 (he has to make a living), told Catholic News Agency that typically, a person is not possessed but is struggling with some other illness.

The key to telling the difference, he said, is through discernment in prayer on the part of the exorcist and the possessed – and in the potentially possessed person's reaction to the exorcist himself and the prayers being said. Apparently a good shrink is of no value.

Bogus Pay for Pray

Source: Spiritual
Warfare Prayer
The Washington State AG has shut down a website selling prayers and ordered the refund of nearly $8 million to about 125,000 customers in a settlement with the site's operator Benjamin Rogovy of Seattle. Truthfully, I don't see much daylight between this operation and those deemed more legitimate.

Rogovy's company, the Christian Prayer Center created a fake religious leader, Pastor John Carlson, claiming that he solely ran the sites. Pastor Carlson even had a LinkedIn profile (clever, clever). The site also had fake reviews. According to the AG's office, The website provided “fictitious testimonials from consumers using stock photos that claimed they successfully prayed to avoid home foreclosure, deliver a healthy baby, win the lottery, obtain negative results of an HIV test and put cancer into remission.”

So maybe their names are real but how many pastors begging for money have fake PhDs? I have caught a number of them and they insist on the “Dr.” honorific. There are any number of Christian sites requesting a donation for a prayer.

“Get out of my house with all that gay”

This is what hate and ignorance looks like
A gay couple in Georgia has suffered horrific burns after an anti-gay zealot poured boiling water on them when they were in bed. Marquez Tolbert, was sleeping over at Anthony Gooden's apartment. Martin Blackwell – the boyfriend of Gooden's mother – is allegedly responsible for the attack.

Blackwell allegedly said “get out of my house with all that gay” as he poured. The attack took place two days before Valentine's day. Anthony's cousin has set up a GoFundMe campaign for medical expenses.

Perkins on Garland - More lies

Tony Perkins
Hate group leader Tony Perkins, head of Family Research Council, has some real problems with telling the truth. Perkins appears to be a pathological liar willing to say just about anything that supports his right wing Christian point of view. Consider today's email regarding the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland:
Judge Garland is far from being a consensus nominee and would be an incredibly different jurist than Justice Scalia. In fact, he was opposed by almost a quarter of the Senators who voted on his nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court in 1997, and some of Judge Garland's most recent opinions and dissents raises serious questions about his ability to serve as a constitutionalist.
Perkins knows perfectly well that senators did not oppose him. Rather, they opposed adding an additional seat to the DC Circuit. It is intentionally misleading. Therefore, it is a deliberate lie.

Perkins doesn't cite any “opinions and dissents.” Go figure.

Tony Perkins is further wed to Christian privilege

Tony Perkins
Hate group leader Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is out with a new (old) version of talking points in support of the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA). Most of these are inapplicable but apparently Christians are a persecuted minority. I did not know that.

I will not repeat what I have previously written about this bill. Ultimately it would construct a federal license to discriminate and could create some conflicts with state and municipal non-discrimination laws.

Perkins is incapable of writing a sentence without being hyperbolically disingenuous. He begins:

Catholic diocese cancels fundraiser because the entertainer they booked is in a same-sex marriage

Katrina Kat Williams
Marriage equality continues to drive the Catholic bishops insane. The Diocese of Charlotte, N.C., canceled its March 12 Catholic Charities Gala for Hope when they learned the entertainer booked for the event is in a same-sex marriage. They said that it was not acceptable for the diocese to have someone perform at one of its events “while the person is in open conflict with Church teaching.”

Normal people would want this to quietly go away

David and Edie Delorme
Some self-manufactured victims are desperately in need of attention. I first wrote about David and Edie Delorme, owners Kern's Bake Shop, on February 26. The Longview, Texas bakery discriminated against a gay couple in a place that doesn't penalize such discrimination. In the two weeks and three days since then we keep hearing, over and over again, how David Delorme and Edie Delorme are victims.

Answer: "Brain cells die in great pain"

Michael Brown
A gaunt Michael Brown asks in a new post: “What Happens When Dr. Michael Brown Debates Homosexuality and the Death Penalty With Theodore Shoebat?” The gaunt anti-gay crackpot goes on to write:
After calling out Theodore Shoebat for claiming Jesus would have killed gay people, Dr. Michael Brown sat down with the blogger and commentator to debate two of today's hottest topics: homosexuality and the death penalty.

But that's not all.

The two also debated whether the government should put adulterers, fornicators and witches to death, and discussed the Crusades and the Inquisition.
I do hope that they settled the issue of putting witches to death. I am not inclined to watch the video to find out.

Gary Cass declares victory in Tennessee

Gary Cass
I have an email from Dr. Gary Cass (of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission) titled “VICTORY: State Stands with Thomas Jefferson Against Unlawful US Supreme Court.” Aside from the fact that Cass does not have a real PhD, a ruling of the Supreme Court of the United State is lawful per se. I'll get to Thomas Jefferson later. This thing continues:
Tennessee continues to fight against same-sex marriage in America after the shocking Supreme Court Obergefell decision this summer, legalizing same-sex marriage throughout the country. Many pro-family advocates have been calling on individual states to enforce their own sovereignty and nullify the unconstitutional decision. Tennessee legislatures are responding to that call.

A dreary email from FRC's David Christensen

David Christensen
I have an odd email missive from David Christensen, VP of government affairs, a proud graduate of Liberty University and VP of government affairs at Family Research Council. The subject reads “Tell the Senate We the People Should Have a Say in Who Fills Justice Scalia's Vacant Seat.”

Christensen goes on to write:
The late Justice Scalia's Supreme Court seat has been vacant for about a month and we expect President Obama to make a nomination soon. Based on the President's previous nominations, you can be sure that his top pick for Justice Scalia's seat will be a jurist who, like the President himself, disrespects the Constitution and the will of its authors. Certainly, the nominee will not be one who respects that the power of the federal government and the courts is limited and enumerated.

Even by Christopher Doyle standards this is spectacularly stupid

Christopher Doyle
Apparently Christopher Doyle has filed a complaint with the FTC accusing the Human Rights Campaign and unnamed others of consumer fraud for asserting that people are born gay. This is so staggeringly stupid that I scarcely know where to begin. Self-censorship precludes me from calling Doyle a fuckwit. Doyle has not provided a copy of the complaint.

Consumer fraud exists when consumers are motivated through deliberately false information to purchase goods or services. HRC doesn't have consumers. Ergo, it cannot be guilty of consumer fraud.

Remove the disingenuous hyperbole from Erick Erickson and nothing is left

Erick Erickson
Erick Erickson seems unable to write a paragraph without being self-righteously disingenuous. Erickson also lives in a simplistic binary world of Left and Right and the Right is always right. Erickson has a piece on Heritage Foundation's blog titled “The ‘Compassionate’ Bullying of the Left.” His “victim” is the discriminatory Washington State florist, Barronelle Stutzman.

FRC's Travis Weber seems spectacularly confused

Travis Weber
At Family Research Council's blog Friday, their Travis Weber wrote a piece titled “ Governor Intends to Ignore Same-Sex Marriage Ruling—Will He Be Chastised?” He goes on to write:
A federal district judge in Puerto Rico recently ruled that Obergefell v. Hodges does not overturn Puerto Rico’s marriage laws because the constitutional protections at issue in that case do not apply to an unincorporated territory like Puerto Rico the same way they do to the states.

Puerto Rico’s governor responded by indicating he will not abide by the ruling: “I will respect what has been determined by higher hierarchy courts that, fortunately, order a very different procedure... The fundamental right to equal marriage has been validated and ordered by the federal Supreme Court and by the appeals court in Boston.”

Austin Ruse blames Obergefell on television

Austin Ruse
According to hate group leader Austin Ruse on Friday: “Without a doubt Obergefell was crammed down our throats, as were all the lower court decisions that overturned 34 state laws and constitutional changes voted upon by citizens.” The outlet for this wisdom was the orthodox Catholic Crisis Magazine.

I have not written about Mr. Ruse in awhile. He is the head of the Center for Family and Human Rights (“C-Fam”). The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated C-Fam an anti-LGBT hate group. Ruse's advocacy is on behalf of the Vatican. Ruse is a Knight of Malta and a Defender of the Faith™. It is unlikely that same-sex marriage has affected Ruse in any way whatsoever. However, the Vatican does not approve of gay people (we are “intrinsically disordered”) and the current dictum requires Catholics to oppose same-sex marriage. This results in Obergefell endangering Ruse's remaining tonsilur tissue.

Josh Duggar - Done with "rehab"

Josh Duggar
Josh Duggar is home in Arkansas after spending about six month at Reformers Unanimous, a “Christian” facility in Illinois. Faith healing psychological problems is probably less effective than faith healing cancer. The reality is that Duggar fled from public attention because it was bad for the family's brand. Josh Duggar's “sin” was hypocrisy, particularly when it came to LGBT people who he demonized.

Duggar fondled young children when he was a teen including some of his sisters. That kind of deviancy probably doesn't just go away. Moreover, Duggar's name appeared when Ashley Madison's database was hacked. In addition, Duggar allegedly assaulted a porn actress. Duggar said that he was addicted to pornography and had cheated on his wife. The intended inference was that Duggar's “addiction” caused him to be unfaithful.

Tony Perkins should open his own bakery

Tony Perkins - hate group leader
Thursday, hate group leader Tony Perkins and Family Research Council are once again raising money off of Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, the bakers who flouted Oregon's anti-discrimination laws. FRC is, again, misrepresenting the facts and the Kleins are complicit in the deception. How very “Christian” of them all. Conservative Christians have been raising money off of the Kleins for more than three years now.

Bat turds hit the turbines in Taiwan with an assist from LifeSiteNews

According to an ad entitled “Acceptance,” created for McCafé by Leo Burnett, began airing in Taiwan on March 4. It shows a young man write “I like boys” on his paper cup, then turn the message so that it faces his middle aged father.

The man's father slams his fist on the table and walks off, only to return with his own cup. He then takes his son's cup and writes, “I accept that you like boys.” The tagline, “Let there be warmth in conversations,” flashes on the screen as the two smile and sip their hot beverages.

Joseph Backholm hates transgender children

Joseph Backholm
Joseph Backholm, head of the anti-gay group Family Policy Institute of Washington, is sending out email as “” According their website they are trying to raise $100,000 and enlist 1,000 volunteers to gather enough signatures to put Washington State's trans-inclusive law on the ballot. The fuckwit is doing this out of Christian love you know. Also very Christian of them is soliciting donations without identifying the recipient entity and without a tax advisory. This is a non-exempt purpose. Because those patriotic Christians want an informed electorate that will make good choices and always obey the laws of this great nation.

I swear, Liberty Counsel goes out of their way to hire idiots

Mat Staver - Liberty Counsel
As previously noted, on February 20, the Fairfax County Circuit Court dismissed a Liberty Counsel lawsuit due to standing. Liberty Counsel sued the School Board of Fairfax County, Virginia, for changing its nondiscrimination policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity. The court ruled that the anonymous Fairfax County student named in the case, did not face an injury, such as being expelled or suspended. Therefore, he lacked standing to sue. Mat Staver vowed to appeal.

The three things you need to know about Missouri Joint Resolution 39

After a 39 hour filibuster Republicans used a procedural maneuver to bring Joint Resolution 39 to a vote. JR 39 is a license to discriminate. It puts an end to local non-discrimination laws protecting sexual orientation like the St. Louis ordinance. Secondly, the Catholic Church got a nice kiss on the cheek because a religious organization means (among other things):
(b) A religious society, corporation, entity, partnership, order, preschool, school, institution of higher education, ministry, charity, social service provider, children's home, hospital or other health care facility, hospice, elder care facility, or crisis pregnancy center, whether or not connected to or affiliated with a church, diocese, denomination, or other organization of churches, where said organization holds itself out to the public in whole or in part as religious and its purposes and activities are in whole or in part religious;

Still no response from LaBarbera about his IRS revocation

Peter LaBarbera
On January 27 I discovered that the IRS revoked the tax-exempt status of Peter LaBarbera's Americans For Truth About Homosexuality on October 3, 2015 effective May 15, 2015. Surely this self-righteous holier-than-thou Christian should abide by the same rules as everyone else. Right?

Surely this good Christian should put a notice on his website. Yes, I know that reinstatement might be retroactive but right now, donations are not tax deductible. Moreover, I suspect that LaBarbera cannot put returns together to get reinstated. The handwritten 990 that he submitted in 2012 after the first revocation did not reconcile the prior year and was obviously a round-number guesstimate. I emailed Peter, Mike Heath and Brad Wallace (I have no idea who that is). No reply. They all want this to quietly go away.

By the way, here is the confirmation link to the Service. What is it? Ye reap what ye sow? Something like that.

Is Caleb Kaltenbach full of crap?

More than a calling, being a pastor is a way to make a living. Caleb Kaltenbach is a practitioner. Kaltenbach knows that a preacher with an interesting story can sell a book and speak at churches (for a fee of course).  Kaltenbach is plying his trade.

Kaltenbach's story is that he is the biological son of a gay man and a gay woman. He was raised by his mother and her partner from the age of two after his parents divorced. Supposedly his mom was on the board of directors of GLAAD (a dubious claim). He claims to have marched in a pride parade where Christians pelted them with urine (dubious).

Now Liberty Counsel INSISTS that they won what they lost

Mat Staver - Liberty Counsel
On Friday I posted “Liberty Counsel claims they won what they lost.” Essentially, while providing 170 pages of venting by judges who don't like “homosexual ‘marriage,’” the Alabama Supreme Court conceded the reality that the ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States in Obergefell v. Hodges represents the law of the land. States do not get to nullify rulings that they do not like. Liberty Counsel believed otherwise.

Caitlyn Jenner needs a connection to reality

Ms. Jenner has a new video courtesy of the UK's Daily Mail. She claims that any of the Republican candidates would be better than Hillary Clinton. She claims that Clinton only cares about herself. Jenner has previously endorsed Ted Cruz. She claims that Cruz is not anti-LGBT which is a fantasy.

Clearly Jenner has no understanding or empathy for the plight of the average transgender person who is challenged to find a job and a place to live. Transgender Americans are four times more likely to live in poverty. Transgender people are also far more likely to experience violence.

Time for Patriot Academy to recruit future anti-gay and anti-choice activists

An email from the anti-gay hate group American Family Association has alerted me to the fact that Patriot Academy has started its recruitment drive. They are looking for young people, 16 to 25 years of age, who will attend three to five day “boot camps” this summer. Were it not for the right wing Christian indoctrination this would be a good idea.

In case you have any doubts about the indoctrination, this enterprise is run by Rick Green (of WallBuilders fame). The board of advisors includes people like David Barton (of course), hate group leader Mat Staver, “homosexuality is barbarism” whack job Rabbi Daniel Lapin and Fr. Frank Pavone.

The young people elect executives and are then divided into a house and senate. They learn how to draft and effect legislation. This is the kind of civics that should be free of bias. It would make young people more responsible and more knowledgeable. It is a shame that young people will be infused with David Barton's “Christian Nation™” bullshit.

Log Cabin GOPers release an anti-Trump video

This video attacking Donald Trump was published on Monday. One need not wonder why Log Cabin Republicans disabled comments at YouTube. Do they prefer Crazy Cruz?

In Missouri a filibuster by Dems resisting anti-gay measure

St. Louis Arch - Gateway to the West
A filibuster by Democrats that began at 4:00 PM Monday has now gone into Tuesday morning at the Missouri Senate. The eight-member Democratic caucus is attempting to kill an anti-gay resolution to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would permit discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations.

Won't you please help the victims of Reverse-Midas?

I have maintained that Brian S. Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage, has an acute case of Reverse-Midas. Anything he touches turns to shit. Once NOM endorsed Ted Cruz, well … his candidacy was doomed. Stranger things have happened but it looks like Mr. Trump will be the Republican nominee for president in 2016. Come to think of it, what could be stranger than that? There are no innocent victims of Reverse-Midas.
