Apparently we have caused the sky to fall or, ... something

Amy Contrada
LGBT people cause Amy Contrada of Mass Resistance "fame" to become hopelessly unhinged (I edited this photo to remove some graffiti)
These days, LifeSiteNews will regurgitate just about anything if it expresses a sufficient amount of LGBT hate. That includes: LGBT extremists have destroyed the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Boston by Amy Contrada. Contrada is affiliated with the vile hate group, Mass Resistance. Contrada seems to be a relatively intelligent person who has an extreme personality disorder. LGBT people cause Contrada to come unglued to the point of dementia.

Contrada writes:
In 1995, a remarkable 9-0 ruling was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court. A Catholic veterans' group, organizers of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston, were vindicated in their refusal to allow a homosexual activist group to march in their parade.…

Blame Trump - Not mythical LGBT activists

Elaine Donnelly
Elaine Donnelly, Center for Military Readiness
According to American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group: LGBT harassing groups against transgenders in military.
A Michigan-based Christian law firm has taken action to stop LGBT activists groups ongoing intimidation and harassment of organizations opposed to transgenders serving in the military.
What they are really complaining about is document production in a federal lawsuit regarding the service of transgender people (“transgender,” is an adjective, not a noun). What they are referring to is Elaine Donnely's group, Center for Military Readiness, now being represented by the ultra-conservative Catholic Thomas More Law Center. But let us back up a bit.

The next time AFTAH or AFA complain about hate group designations, remind them of their linking gays to child molesters

Peter LaBarbera
Peter LaBarbera is advancing a mindless conspiracy theory
I have written about this before. Now it's Peter LaBarbera advancing a hoax at American Family Association's blog. This is just one of the reasons that AFA and LaBarbera's org, Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, are designated as hate groups by Southern Poverty Law Center. AFA's polemic is titled: LGBTQ runs from adding MAP to alphabet soup. “MAP” is shorthand for Minor Attracted Person and none of this is true.

This meme involves The Prevention Project. It is a highly respected endeavor to prevent pedophiles from being child molesters. The program has been academically structured and it is based on science. Disparaging this organization to embarrass LGBT people is deplorable.

Has Starbucks become discriminatory?

A Starbucks store within Salt Lake International Airport
Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) is in the process of opening stores inside Publix supermarkets in Florida. That creates a number of concerns. The arrangement creates a considerable culture clash.

Starbucks is a robust supporter of LGBT equality. It enjoys a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index. On January 24, 2012 the company issued a memorandum in support of marriage equality (courtesy of an outraged National Organization for Marriage).

It would be easy to dismiss Ruth Inst and Daniel Mattson as harmless religious zealots

Daniel Mattson
Daniel Mattson is a self-promoting, self-loathing anti-gay religious zealot. His message offered as love is a message of hate.
Ruth Institute, an anti-LGBT hate group, is promoting Daniel Mattson. Mattson, a gay man (he will say “same-sex attracted”) is a Courage Ministry alumnus. He claims to be celibate and extremely happy. If he wants to become a eunuch to conform to the teachings of his religion, so be it. I think that his actions are idiotic but relatively harmless.

However, things are not quite that simple. Mattson has become a very visible symbol of Catholic piety. He has appeared in a film promoting some form of conversion therapy and he has written a book. Mattson was the keynote speaker and received the “Public Witness Award” at the Ruth Institute banquet last month. Mattson also has plenty of advice to deliver to parents and children.

According to Liberty Counsel the mere presence of a trans person poses a threat

Mad Mat Staver
On Friday I received an email from hate group leader "Mad" Mat Staver. The subject reads: FL Fitness Center Endangers Women. It is an inaccurate and bigoted transphobic diatribe. A woman identified only as “Mrs. H.” went unhinged over the presence of a transgender woman in a women's facility at a Planet Fitness in Florida. The transgender woman is identified as Jordan Rice.

I have been unable to locate Ms. Rice. It is not Jordan Rice, the poet. As for Planet Fitness, the franchiser, they are headquartered in New Hampshire. I have made certain that senior-level personnel, the local franchisee and others know that Liberty Counsel is a hate group.

Pen name? Nah - Just an anonymous coward and crank

Monday, Declan Carrick Lyons writes: LGBTQIA: It’s the Taxonomy, Stupid. Taxonomy, by the way, is the science of defining and naming groups of biological organisms on the basis of shared characteristics.

According to Lyons:
Declan Carrick Lyons is the pen name of a veteran Catholic writer and thinker, catechist, liturgist, and musician, with three decades of experience in parish ministry. He lives in Middle America. He can be reached at
Lyons has written three pieces at Crisis:

Some lines intersect in the Mueller probe - Read the indictments

Donald Trump
Trump's performance today was nothing short of treason.

On Friday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted Russian intelligence officials for interfering in the 2016 elections (below the fold).  Considering Trump and Putin's remarks today, everyone should read the indictments. Just a few passages:
On or about August 15, 2016, the Conspirators, posing as Guccifer 2.0, received a request for stolen documents from a candidate for the U.S. Congress. The Conspirators responded using the Guccifer 2.0 persona and sent the candidate stolen documents related to the candidate's opponent.

Bigotry permission slip now on appeal

“Believe it or not the Supreme Court's ruling in Masterpiece Cakeshop might provide some advantages.”
Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski
Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski, discriminatory proprietors of Brush & Nib Studio which isn't really a studio.
The Brush & Nib saga continues and it is a colossal waste of taxpayer funded resources. None of this would be possible were it not for the determined bigotry of Alliance Defending Freedom, an anti-LGBT hate group.

Brush & Nib Studio designs wedding invitations. The City of Phoenix has a nondiscrimination ordinance assuring that LGBT patrons receive service in public accommodations. Brush & Nib have never been asked to provide an invitation for a same-sex wedding. They are seeking a permission slip to discriminate in spite of the fact that no gay couple is likely to patronize the business.

No Mr. Smith - Sexual Orientation is Not a Choice

“He is essentially asserting ‘it might not be a choice but it is a choice.’”
Kevin Spacey
Justin Bradford Smith is a young lawyer (admitted to the bar in 2010); an associate at a six-attorney law firm in Temple, TX. He doesn't seem to appear on any federal dockets.

Mr. Smith has acquired some odd ideas about sexual orientation which he has gleaned from — of all people — Kevin Spacey. Mr. Smith is the author of a polemic titled: Timeless Truths Gleaned from Kevin Spacey’s Choice.

Yet another irrational trans assault from Miriam Ben-Shalom

Miriam Ben-Shalom
Wednesday, Miriam Ben-Shalom writes: Trans Bathrooms Are All About Discrimination—Against Women And Children. The subtitle reads:
The current law regarding bathrooms in Massachusetts, which allows transgender people to use opposite-sex private facilities, is a matter of unspeakable oppression against females.

Falling for a hoax linking gays to pedophile groups and NAMBLA

Fake News
The post from Doug Mainwaring is titled: Pedophiles put themselves under the LGBT umbrella in rebranding effort. The objective is to then claim that the LGBT community includes pedophiles. It does not. None of this story is accurate. Mainwaring has fallen for a hoax.

Doug Mainwaring is an openly gay man who chose to reunite with his wife (a lesbian) and obey Catholic doctrine. Something in Mainwaring's makeup causes him to disparage LGBT people (particularly gay men). His rhetoric is worthy of any hate group. In fact Peter LaBarbera has referred to Mainwaring as his “good friend.” Mainwaring provides a paradigm of a self-loathing gay man. The Catholic Church says that Mainwaring is “objectively disordered” and he believes it.

Donald Trump's no-good, miserable, non-existent management skills

If Donald Trump really did graduate from Wharton he might have slept his way through it.
Plan, delegate and organize have been the watchwords of the American Management Association for a very long time, predating Trump's post-secondary education. But there is more because the White House should be a paragon of quality-management particularly when the care of children is at issue.

Quality is achieved by making people accountable to process where each process is the smallest element of every part of the plan. A good leader accomplishes this by asking questions which incoude some metric to evaluate performance. Everything has to be written down to form a manual.

Even for Perkins his argument in support of conversion "therapy" is stunningly stupid

“Even when it comes to children, Tony Perkins demonstrates that he is a shameless, greedy bigot.”
Tony Perkins
Hate group leader Tony Perkins likes conversion “therapy.” Perkins' promotion of the discredited practice is not premised on the notion that it really helps anyone. Perkins promotes the snake oil because it justifies discrimination. Conversion therapy seeks to prove that sexual orientation and gender identity are not immutable. Logically, that depends upon proof that conversion therapy actually works. That proof is nonexistent.

Protecting kids has been nonpartisan.

This is rich: FRC vs. AFA cage match

When hate groups collide!
Tim Wildmon and Tony Perkins
L-R Hate Group Leaders Tim Wildmon and Tony Perkins
Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council:
For a second time, President Trump has followed through on his promise to select a nominee from the list he presented during the campaign. President Trump promised a constitutionalist -- someone who will call balls and strikes according to the Constitution. We trust the president that Judge Kavanaugh will fit this mold as a justice. Judge Kavanaugh has a long and praiseworthy history of judging as an originalist, and we look forward to having a justice with his philosophical approach on the Court.

NOM launches yet another campaign to appeal to the deluded

Brian S. Brown
National Organization for Marriage. has created what it calls the Marriage Heroes Campaign which is nothing other than an attempt to get more money from more people. Brian S. Brown dishonestly suggests that giving money to NOM will influence the Supreme Court:
The importance of this nomination to the Supreme Court cannot be overstated. For the first time since the Court illegitimately redefined marriage in the Obergefell decision of 2015, NOM and all marriage supporters will have a clear path forward to restore marriage to our nation's laws.

It's a first: Maine's crazy governor vetoed youth conversion therapy ban

Paul LePage
For the first time in the United States a governor has vetoed a conversion therapy ban. That governor is Paul LePage of Maine. Politico once dubbed LePage (a Tea Partier) “America's craziest governor.”

Making matters worse, the legislature lacked the votes to override the veto. LePage claimed that the language of the ban was too broad and that it would prohibit counseling an individual at his or her request. He went on to claim that the bill impinged on religious liberty which is usually code for the liberty to discriminate against LGBT people. LePage is correct about one thing. The bill would prevent people who want the “therapy” for getting it.

Donohue incorrectly blames gays for the Church's pedophilia problem

Bill Donohue
Blowhard Bill Donohue is delighted that Bill Maher went after him in an HBO stand-up comedy special on Saturday. Maher has a considerably larger and broader audience than Donohue. Maher gave Donohue an opportunity to launch into one of he favorite themes:
More important, Maher errs when he says the Catholic Church has a record of tolerating pedophile priests who sexually molest children. The problem has always been about homosexual priests abusing postpubescent males.

Hate group crank posits the required preparation to oppose transgender people

Amy Contrada and Brian Camenker
Amy Contrada and Brian Camenker (MassResistance) circa 2013
Amy Contrada writes: How to get started opposing the transgender movement. As I wrote earlier today, it is easier to oppose a non-existent movement than actual people, particularly since those people's only “sin” is having a common medical condition. I need to take a few moments explaining where this is coming from. It is not argument ad hominem but an attempt at providing perspective.

Amy Contrada was an early associate of the rabidly bigoted MassResistance which was one of the first (then) anti-gay hate groups identified as such by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Contrada is not your ordinary anti-LGBT zealot. She is well educated, a violinist and even a violin maker. LGBT people seem to threaten her. She has railed about Catholic Charities withdrawing from adoptions in Massachusetts. Some years ago she involved herself in a controversy over The Vagina Monologues being performed at Holy Cross College. Contrada is probably Catholic but I cannot determine to what extent that has influenced her thinking.

Where do these crazy people get these crazy ideas about gender?

“It might seem less hateful to attack a ‘movement.’ Yet the reality is that it is an attack on people that their antagonist disapproves of.”
Jennifer Bilek
Jennifer Bilek via GoFundMe
Jennifer Bilek has written two posts for The Federalist. Both are about transgender people. The current piece is remarkably titled: Transgenderism Is Just Big Business Dressed Up In Pretend Civil Rights Clothes. Nothing is too nutty for The Federalist. The polemic is a misadventure subtitled:
The media keeps presenting us on the one hand with a trans civil rights movement for the oppressed and, on the other, with a cutting-edge (pun intended) lifestyle.

The New York Times elevates hate group leaders

The New York Times is editorially an ally of LGBT equality. However, from time to time reporters and columnists exercise terrible judgment.

On July 3 (July 5 in print), Liam Stack and Elizabeth Dias wrote a piece titled: Why the Supreme Court Opening Could Affect Gay Marriage as Well as Abortion. They try mightily to fulfill their journalistic obligation to be balanced. I am wondering: If the Civil Rights Act of 1964 came under attack, would they interview David Duke? How about a Neo-Nazi? After all, they want to be fair.

Conversion "therapy" and NIFLA and religious crackpots

“How the hell did this become a Christian crisis?”
In NIFLA v. Becerra the Supreme Court ruled last month that pro-life pregnancy centers cannot be compelled by California to advertise the availability of free or low-cost abortions. Ultimately the court ruled that it is compelled speech.

Mad Mat Staver has claimed, with some certitude that the decision in NIFLA means that bans on conversion therapy are an unconstitutional violation of free speech rights under the First Amendment. Zack Ford has expressed his concern.

Hate Group Leader Brad Dacus is terribly confused - Again

Brad Dacus
According to American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group:
At issue is Assembly Bill 2943, a measure that critics say would forbid counseling for people with unwanted same-sex attraction or gender identity issues. Attorney Brad Dacus of Pacific Justice Institute explains that it would also make it illegal to hold a conference with individuals who have overcome and had victory regarding those struggles.
Pacific Justice Institute is also an anti-LGBT hate group. In brief, Dacus is full of crap. The bill now reads:
Advertising, offering for sale, or selling services constituting sexual orientation change efforts to an individual.

Study concludes that children of same-sex parents fair better than their peers with heterosexual parents

A new study in the prestigious Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics concludes that the children of same-sex parents are psychologically sounder than children of heterosexual parents. The study is titled: Same-Sex and Different-Sex Parent Families in Italy: Is Parents' Sexual Orientation Associated with Child Health Outcomes and Parental Dimensions? The conclusion reads:
Findings suggested that children with same-sex parents fare well both in terms of psychological adjustment and prosocial behavior. The present study warns policy makers against making assumptions on the basis of sexual orientation about people who are more suited than others to be parents or about people who should or should not be denied access to fertility treatments.

Getting up to date on California AB-2943

Kris Olsen
Former pro-golfer and current crackpot Kris Olsen is an advocate of Pray-Away-The-Gay “therapy.”
If California Assembly Bill 2943 is enacted, the measure will cause conversion therapy to be treated as consumer fraud. A New Jersey jury returned that very result when JONAH was sued by former clients with the assistance of Southern Poverty Law Center in 2015.

The last time I wrote about AB-2943 was on May 22. Since then there have been some important developments.

A supposed Church's offensive sign is actually a personal message

By now many of you are probably familiar with the idiotic sign pictured above. Claiming that Jesus would not approve of LGBT people is foolish. Claiming that being LGBT is a hate crime is outrageous. It is also quite stupid. However, a few things about this are not quite right. My own theory is below the fold.

Let's start with the Internal Revenue Service. From my database I have reviewed every religious organization in Auburn, Indiana and none of them are even close. The Church was seemingly founded last year and it is possible that the 501(c)3 application is pending.
