What a Shock: An Email From Brian S. Brown is Full of Lies

Brian S. Brown keeps singing his testicles.
Brian S. Brown
via YouTube
Moving is a bitch. I feel like a Bedouin. Anyway, I needed an excuse to pause so I caught up on email. The latest missive from Brian S. Brown, on behalf of National Organization for Marriage, is titled democrat ‘off label’ drug hypocrisy.
Right now, there are no drugs that have been specifically approved to treat COVID-19. However, one promising drug to help infected people is hydroxychloroquine … So, many physicians have been prescribing the drug to coronavirus patients using a process called “off label.” “Off label” allows an approved drug to be prescribed for something that was not previously considered when the drug was approved
The above is essentially true. Nevertheless, in the past, Brown has feigned a shitfit over the use of puberty blockers which are prescribed off-label to treat pediatric gender dysphoria. Puberty blockers were originally developed to treat precocious puberty.

A "Famed" Exorcist is More Subtle

The Power of Christ Compels You
“The power of Christ compels you!”
The Exorcist (1973) via YouTube
According to Martin Barillas at ChurchMilitant.com, an anti-LGBTQ hate group:
Fr. José Antonio Fortea Cucurull, a famed exorcist and an expert on the subject of the occult and demonic possession, said that many people have asked him whether the spread of the deadly virus is a divine punishment…
The answer, according to Cucurull, is “yes.” Were divine retribution real then       -
                            -
                                 -
                                       -
                                          -

I'm still here but I am concerned for the wellbeing of Hemant Mehta.

Redux: "Repent of LGBT" and Be Saved From Coronavirus

“… vengeful, angry, spiteful and narcissistic. Steven Andrew's deity is oddly similar to a certain orange creature.”
Steven Andrew
Once again whacked out pastor Steven Andrew blames LGBTQ people for the coronavirus.
via YouTube
Steven Andrew would be more entertaining were he smarter than dog kibble. Alas, he is not.

Thursday, Mr. Andrew has paid Christian Newswire to provide an outlet for Steven Andrew Gives Emergency Message to Repent of LGBT and All Sins; Sharing God's Life-Saving Hope During Coronavirus Crisis. Thanks Steve! Good to know.

My idea of repentance is the diet commencing the day following my consumption of an inordinate quantity of lasagna for dinner. “Be saved!”

On Display: Blowhard Bill Donohue's Spectacular Stupidity Regarding Trans People

“Mr. Donohue provides assurances that religious doctrine and superstition are close cousins.”
Bill Donohue
The holier-than-thou Bill Donohue of the Catholic League has not filed two years of required tax returns. Mr. Morality indeed.
via YouTube
Wednesday, Blowhard Bill Donohue has penned: Pope brands transgender theory as evil.

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League is devoted to simplistic thinking. The pope says thus and so. For Donohue, the pope's utterances become reality — absolute truth. No proof required. No critical thinking desired. Intellectual curiosity is a victim of religious devotion.

I frankly resent lectures about morality from someone who is a tax cheat. The Catholic League never filed a tax return for 2016. The last extension for the 2018 return expired on October 15, 2019. He still has not filed it. Yes, I filed a referral with the Internal Revenue Service which went beyond the habitual nonfiling.

At the risk of stating the obvious:

Get a Grip Mr. Brown - George Soros Doesn't Know You Exist

Brian S. Brown
Brian S. Brown has imaginary friends and imaginary enemies.
Wednesday, according to Brian S. Brown, soros uses coronavirus crisis to attack IOF. The truth is that George Soros typically doesn't attack anyone. He doesn't have to.

Brian S. Brown is turning Howard Center For Family Religion and Society into something comparable to National Organization for Marriage. Both organizations rely on hyperbolic and dishonest fundraising appeals. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Howard Center — including assumed names World Congress of Families and International Organization for the Family — is an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

George Soros is a very important and accomplished man. Aside from his enormous philanthropic generosity, Soros (who arrived in London penniless) invented what we now call a hedge fund. In some quarters George Soros is code for evil Jewish influence.

Uh, you are NOT getting a $1,200 windfall!

At least not anytime soon
The language in the Senate CARES Act is rather esoteric. One thing I do know is that no one is going to receive a $1,200 check from the government in the near future.
In the case of an eligible individual, there shall be allowed as a credit against the tax imposed by subtitle A for the first taxable year beginning in 2020 an amount equal to the lesser of—

“(1) net income tax liability, or

“(2) $1,200 ($2,400 in the case of a joint return).

My Senior Senator as Christian Nationalist

“We are not Iran. At least not yet. The Christian mullahs are more likely to mislead adherents than to guide them according to the best medical advice.”
Marco Rubio
People forget that Marco Rubio was a Tea Party politician
via Salon
Senator Marco Rubio briefed pastors and Christian leaders on a conference call regarding the coronavirus. Some of what Rubio had to say was valuable but there are problems and concerns.

For starters this was coordinated by Hate Group Leader John Stemberger of Florida Family Policy Council. While overlooked by the Southern Poverty Law Center, FFPC spews venom at LGBTQ people that is worthy of any national hate group. The format for the call consisted of Stemberger interviewing Rubio.

Then there is Rubio's disturbing connections to the Christian right. He was a speaker at an event held by David Lane. Lane is no ordinary denizen of the lunatic fringe. He is a dishonest Republican operative and Christian nationalist. Rubio was the keynote speaker at another Florida Family Policy Council event “honoring” Mad Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel.

Frank Schubert is Still Around With the Same Old Bullshit

Frank Schubert
Frank Schubert in 2008 promoting California Prop 8
via National Organization for Marriage
Monday, Frank Schubert makes some sanctimonious noise about religion and the coronavirus. Schubert seems to be afflicted with a form of selective amnesia. At one of Brian S. Brown's outlets, Schubert has penned: Coronavirus Crisis Reminds Us of Eternal Truths of Marriage and Family.

Frank Schubert is, and has been, the political director for the National Organization for Marriage. He now plays a similar role at Howard Center For Family Religion and Society, an anti-LGBTQ hate group doing business as World Congress of Families and International Organization for the Family.

Schubert is most notable, perhaps, as a PR and political consultant to the Tobacco Institute. Schubert was subsequently the political director and chief strategist for Protect Marriage, the group responsible for California Proposition 8.

Coronavirus: It's either a liberal conspiracy or hysteria

Trump seems to have come around to the view that the coronavirus is not a hoax. Trump's supporters? Not so much.
If you want a sampling of opinion from the Trump constituency, just take a look at the comment thread of a post on The Federalist. The average discharged AA battery is better informed. It's not just Fox. “News” sources from Pluto are subjected to confirmation bias worthy of an NRA political spinner.

I wonder if Alex Jones or Jim Bakker have a magic potion to restore the brain cells lost to my curation of snippets:
Yep, here is what the CDC has to say about the normal number of deaths to be expected from flu:
[…]
We've allowed our country and its economy to be shut down by the Liberals Who Art In Washington over a grand total of around 400 deaths. If we were to take liberals seriously, they want America to commit suicide over fear of dying.

An Email From Donald

Don't expect Trump's campaign to be any more honest than Trump has been to date.
Donald Trump

Donald Trump has seen fit to send me a campaign email. The recipient is an account that I use to subscribe to conservative Christian content which means that the evangelicals are promoting Trump by providing him with lists of their users.

So, I am Leaving South Beach

“I am profoundly disorganized and in need of adult supervision.”
I started visiting South Beach in 1996, shortly after Ian Schrager renovated the Delano Hotel. We had a favorite room that we always reserved. The chic in-room magazine was titled Ocean Drive. It continues to feature luxury merchandise in a glossy format.

That magazine should probably change its name. These days, Ocean Drive is associated with a string of very mediocre restaurants (many of which seem to share the same menu), hookers, rowdy crowds, drunks, noise and crime. Many of the restaurants we favored have since closed.

In the ten years that I have lived here, South Beach has deteriorated. It is noisy, dirty and unsafe. The Delano is now less expensive than it was 20 years ago. The newer luxury hotels are well north of the Art Deco District.

2019 SPLC Hate Group List and One Reaction

Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
via Southern Poverty Law Center/YouTube
On Wednesday, the Southern Poverty Law Center released the current list of hate groups. The list of anti-LGBT hate groups is “below the fold.”

Tyler O'Neil (PJ Media) doesn't like the Southern Poverty Law Center. He has written a book about the SPLC. I'm quite certain that it is an exquisite exposé of all the awful things that the SPLC does, and has done, over the years.

Mr. O'Neil and others have been trying to discredit the SPLC for some time in order to reduce the impact of the list of hate groups. The funny thing is that people like Tyler O'Neil never criticize a hate group listing with specifics. O'Neil is incapable of citing what the SPLC says about a hate group and then explaining why the SPLC is in error.

Hate Group: Giving Us Money Will Help Families Affected by the Coronavirus

Embed from Getty Images
Brian S. Brown in Verona for World Congress of Families.
It's Brian S. Brown, again. This time he's asking for money on behalf of International Organization for the Family which is an assumed name for the Howard Center For Family Religion and Society.

Brown's missive is titled: families need you now. Translated that means Brown needs money donated to his little anti-LGBTQ hate group with the pretext that donations will somehow help others:
With America and the world struggling mightily to contain and defeat the COVID-19 coronavirus, many are experiencing the reality of the natural family at home during the crisis. This experience of the reality of the family stands in stark contrast to the false ideology that the family is effectively a political construct that can be changed and redefined.

Hate Group Directly Violates the Law

Walker Wildmon
Walker Wildmon is now a vice president of American Family Association, an anti-LGBTQ hate group. Walker Wildmon is also the idiot son of an idiot son. Walker's grandfather, Don Wildmon, founded AFA. He is a anti-Semitic prick in addition to being an anti-LGBTQ bigot but he seemingly had a functioning brain.

Don's son, Tim, is now president of AFA. Tim isn't exactly Mensa material. Tim's son, Walker: “What's Mensa?”

Some genius at AFA emailed out Walker Wildmon's blog post titled: The Democratic Party: No More Moderates:

North Dakota Religious Nutter Spreads Coronavirus Lie

Mark Jorritsma
Mark Jorritsma
via YouTube
Wednesday, Mark Jorritsma of North Dakota has accused Speaker Pelosi of being a “Pandemic Exploiter.” It is a lie

Mark Jorritsma claims to be president of Family Policy Alliance of North Dakota and Family Policy Foundation of North Dakota. He also claims that both groups are federal nonprofit entities; a 501(c)4 and 501(c)3 respectively. Those are lies. Neither organization actually exists. I will take that up with the Internal Revenue Service today.

Pretentious Pseudo-Scientific Gibberish in Favor of Conversion "Therapy"

The coronavirus has done nothing to diminish the presence of anti-LGBTQ whackjobs and their utterances.
Paul Dirks
Anti LGBTQ warrior and all-around douche bag, Rev. Paul Dirks
Canadian pastor Paul Dirks is no ordinary crackpot. No indeed. Paul Dirks, who does not seem to possess so much as an undergraduate degree, fancies himself an expert on human sexuality. A couple of years ago Dirks did some “research” titled: Gender-Inclusion Policies and Sexual Violence: A Longitudinal Analysis of Media Reports at Target Stores.

Dirks' works were “published” to an anonymous anti-transgender site. I am certain that the peer review was impressively robust. The methodology relied on Google searches and, needless to say, Dirks does not understand what a longitudinal study is.
Undaunted, our fearless investigator tackles conversion therapy
At Witherspoon Institute's pseudo-intellectual blog, Dirks offers: The Empirical Case against “Conversion-Therapy” Bans.

"When God Revealed Himself to Me, I Quit Being Gay"

Becket Cook
via YouTube
Thus sayeth Becket Cook (via a Focus on the Family video).

Pronouncement: God turned me from gay to straight.

Response: May the force be with you.

Mr. Cook would not be an object of ridicule had he not turned his supposed change in sexual orientation into an income. Furthermore, he is essentially claiming that anyone can become straight by believing in Jesus. Therefore, sexual orientation is a choice.

It's always a version of the same tedious story:
Author Becket Cook, who would frequent gay bars in high school, had his first boyfriend after graduating from college. His entire family is Christian, but he says his parents responded to him lovingly and graciously when they found out he identified as gay. It wasn't until an after-party he went to for Paris Fashion Week that he felt an overwhelming wave of emptiness.

Brian S. Brown, Coronavirus and Urban Legends

Brian S. Brown
As you might have guessed, Coronavirus has created an opportunity for Brian S. Brown to stick his fingers into people's, … pockets. After all, National Organization for Marriage needs more money to piss away.
a dangerous time...

The coronavirus scare has every American on edge. Lives are being disrupted and families are being challenged in unprecedented ways. It is a scary and dangerous time. As we adjust to new rules and recommendations from federal health experts, incredibly we have another danger we have to worry about – the penchant for radical democrats like Nancy Pelosi to attempt to use the crisis to advance their anti-family agenda. And that is every bit as scary.

Lou Engle Tries to Protect His Revenue Stream From the Coronavirus

Lou Engle
via Right Wing Watch
Rabidly anti-LGBTQ Lou Engle is the leader of of The Call, which holds prayer rallies. That is how he makes a living. He sent out this message by email:
To take a stand against the destructive spread of the Coronavirus, we are calling the global Church to a three-day Esther Fast, March 18th - March 20th, to humble ourselves, confess our sins and the sins of our nation (Joel 2), and cry out to God for mercy. Then, on the third day, as when Esther went before the king, let us gather together in small or large groups and stand as the Ekklesia before the King of Glory! Let us stretch out His rod of authority out of Zion and rebuke the Coronavirus in united corporate agreement, believing in faith that the storm will abate, stadiums will be filled, and 2020 will go down as the year of the historic advance of evangelism and missions worldwide.

Pixar's Onward Supposedly Suffers at the Box Office Because of Gay Character

Delirious with joy, conservative Christians are taking credit for diminished ticket sales.
Pixar's Onward
Onward opened to an estimated $40 million in domestic ticket sales last Friday through Sunday, more than enough for first place but far short of other Pixar films. Major studios have postponed the release of numerous movies due to the coronavirus.

Were I the parent of a 10-year-old I would probably avoid taking her to the movies at this time. Why risk the exposure?

The folks at hate group LifeSiteNews are simply thrilled: Animated Disney kids’ film ‘Onward’ with openly gay character bombs on opening weekend. As I said, Onward was tops at the box office last weekend by a large margin. It did not “bomb.”

Prosperity Preacher Claims that Fear of COVID-19 Causes People to Contract the Virus

Kenneth Copeland
Prosperity Preacher Kenneth Copeland
via Charisma
According to prosperity preacher Kenneth Copeland, fear of COVID-19 is a sin. Also, “the fear that COVID-19 has caused around the globe is much worse than the strain of virus itself …” I know nothing about Copeland's educational background but I doubt that he is an epidemiologist.

The last time I paid attention to Kenneth Copeland, he was gushing over his new toy, a $36 million Gulfstream V private jet. At the time he planned to spend another $17 million on upgraded avionics. He claimed that too many demons travel by commercial airlines.

Just in passing I need to discuss Kenneth Copeland Ministries with the Internal Revenue Service. Kevin Copeland Ministries is an assumed name of Eagle Mountain International Church. Yet an affiliation does not seem to exist. They can get away with this because Eagle Mountain is not required to file an annual report with the IRS. But I digress.

Tony Perkins Demonstrates His Extraordinary Grasp of Research

“…neither of these sociopaths gives a rat's ass about what is best for children. They are defending the ancient texts that they subscribe to as literal truth.”
Tony Perkins
Hate group leader Tony Perkins (Family Research Council) has a thing or two to say about research that he doesn't like. Mr. Perkins, you see, does not approve of transgender persons. The reason that Perkins does not like transgender people is that he is a Christian literalist and the existence of trans people conflicts with a passage in Genesis.

Tony Perkins doesn't like gay people either. To preserve religious purity he is obliged to insist that sexual orientation is a choice. When science and scripture are in conflict, the scripture prevails for Perkins.

I am reliably informed that Mr. Perkins is especially careful around mirrors, carries a rabbit's foot, flees at the sight of a black cat and never walks under ladders. FRC did not respond to an inquiry regarding Perkins' willingness to step on sidewalk cracks.

Does Chad Felix Greene Still Have a Penis?

The Federalist's Chad Felix Greene doesn't quite grasp medical science.
Chad Felix Greene
Chad Felix Greene (left) and his husband. Were it not for the efforts of the LGBTQ activists Greene denigrates for a paycheck, the man to his left would be just another boyfriend.
via Twitter
Chad Felix Greene is HIV+. Thanks to activists he is alive and well. Thanks to activists, Chad Felix Greene is also married. Marriage equality didn't just happen.

People like Evan Wolfson gave up a great deal so that Greene could marry his husband. Yet, Greene spews the kind of rhetoric we expect from people like Mad Mat Staver.

Wednesday's episode of Greene is titled: No, Pumping Kids Full Of Puberty Blockers Is Not Like Denying Asthmatics An Inhaler. I think that Greene is trying to say that denying children puberty blockers is not like denying an asthmatic kid an inhaler. However, that is not what he wrote. Well beyond his headline, Mr. Greene makes no sense whatsoever.

Blowhard Bill Donohue Uses Bigotry to Complain About Bigotry

Hypocrisy: The holier-than-thou Donohue is a tax cheat as well as a bigot.
Bill Donohue
via YouTube
Blowhard Bill Donohue (Catholic League) doesn't like some jokes about Catholics. They do not seem offensive to me but I am not in a position to judge. Donohue's latest complaint is titled: WHAT? THE VIRUS SPARKS BIGOTRY? (Bill is big on all-caps). So how does he ridicule people he claims are bigots?
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on more unprovoked attacks on Catholicism:

The coronavirus has nothing to do with homosexuals, so it would never occur to Hollywood script writers to make them the butt of jokes linking promiscuity to the disease. They are too protective of homosexuals to do that. Catholics are different.

Mr. Brown Has a Plan at Our Expense

We are all compelled to be critical of these enterprises, no matter how bumbling they seem to be. Raising money off of our backs is morally wrong, regardless of how that money is used.
Brian S. Brown
The anti-LGBTQ National Organization for Marriage doesn't have the organizational horsepower to orchestrate a harmonica solo. In 2015 NOM lost its raison d'être with the ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. Over the last nearly five years about the only thing NOM has accomplished is fooling some people into giving them money.

NOM doesn't seem to actually do anything except to ask for more money to do more of nothing. Today, Wednesday, is no exception.

According to Brian S. Brown: where will they stop? The “they” in that rhetorical question is “LGBT activists and their liberal allies in government.” Accordingly:
LGBT activists and their liberal allies in government are making a full court press to change our way of life. Where will they stop? The answer is they'll stop at nothing: not unless we push back.

Breitbart and ACPeds - What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Medical issues require medical treatment.
According to medical science the use of puberty blockers is safe, effective and fully reversible. According to research published in February to Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics (emphasis added):
There is a significant inverse association between treatment with pubertal suppression during adolescence and lifetime suicidal ideation among transgender adults who ever wanted this treatment. These results align with past literature, suggesting that pubertal suppression for transgender adolescents who want this treatment is associated with favorable mental health outcomes.
Obviously this article was subjected to rigorous peer-review which is the practice of this particular journal.

Another Cretin Claims That Trans People Pose a Danger to Children

“Hate group leader Michael Voris should hire people capable of constructing a coherent argument.”
Rodney Pelletier
Rodney Pelletier
via LinkedIn
Rodney Pelletier seems to be employed, at least in part, by the hate group Church Militant. He has had or has an association with PassageX, an event ticketing network. Pelletier has a warning: Trans Attack on Children.

Before I go any further, this stupidity is the product of the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Vatican has been explicit that the very existence of Transgender people creates a conflict with a passage in Genesis.

Joe Biden's Decency and the LGBTQ Community

“Moral leadership is inherently based on the morality and ethics of the leader.”
Joe Biden
via ABC News
Last Thursday former VP Joseph Biden, disclosed an extensive plan to protect LGBTQ people.
As president, Biden will stand with the LGBT+ community to ensure America finally lives up to the promise on which it was founded: equality for all. … He will provide the moral leadership to champion equal rights for all LGBT+ people, fight to ensure our laws and institutions protect and enforce their rights, and advance LGBT+ equality globally.

"Coach Prayer" Loses Again - Your Tax Dollars at Work

The coach lost but, if this case makes its way to the Supreme Court a second time, there is a risk of a decision negatively impacting gender-diverse students.
Former Coach Joseph A. Kennedy
Former high school football Coach Joseph A. Kennedy became a Christian celebrity when he defied school policy and insisted on praying on the 50 yard line after games when he was supposed to be in the locker room.
via Fox News
Joseph A. Kennedy was an assistant high school football coach. Kennedy became a celebrity in conservative Christian circles because he insisted on praying on the 50 yard line after games.

The Bremerton School District (in suburban Seattle) instructed Kennedy to cease the activity. Kennedy was displeased.

Parents had complained that playing time for their children might be based, in part, on prayer participation. The school district also had a concern related to a violation of the Establishment Clause. Kennedy's celebrity increased in evangelical Christian circles.

Batshittier Than Thou

“In the end this reminds me of Holocaust deniers.”

The Thomas More Society is all bent out of shape because a middle school in Minnesota has an LGBTQ rainbow flag hung somewhere in its cafeteria. Named after a guy whose favorite hobby was setting Protestants on fire, the Thomas More Society is about as irrational as any group obsessed with LGBTQ people.

According to those Catholic fanatics, gay people are “objectively disordered” and transgender people are adherents of a dangerous and evil ideology. Those characterizations beg the question of whether or not these folks own any mirrors.

I Have Not Spent Time in Ladies' Restrooms but ...

“Vica Steel offers a very valuable lesson for children: Just because people are different doesn't mean that they are bad.”
Linda Harvey
Anti-LGBTQ warrior, Linda Harvey, is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier
via YouTube
I have only been in a ladies' room once. I overindulged on martinis and found myself in the wrong bathroom. I was too inebriated to take stock of the environment let alone to commit it to memory. Olives can wreak havoc on one's brain.

Would I be incorrect to assume that women pee in private within stalls (as opposed to urinals)? Transgender people use the facility that most closely corresponds to their gender and presentation.

American Family Association is an anti-LGBTQ hate group. Two of AFA's dipshits — Bob Kellogg and Billy Davis — were required to author: Where are WI parents after trans teacher keeps pushing?.
After a teachers union defended the right of a transgender teacher to urinate next to an elementary school student, it is past time for parents to wake up to what is happening, says a longtime parental activist.

Claiming that LGBTQ People Are "Targeting" Children is as Offensive as Blood Libel

Brad Dacus
Hate Group Leader Brad Dacus (2018)
via YouTube
Hate Group Leader Brad William Dacus of Pacific Justice Institute is fond of promoting the preposterous idea that LGBTQ people pose a danger to children. Historically, disfavored minority groups have always been accused of being a danger to “defenseless” women or “innocent” children.

According to VCY America Brad Dacus opines: Agenda Pushed by LGBTQ+Targets Children. That is as offensive as saying that we Jews use the blood of Gentile children in the preparation of Passover matzo. Dacus probably does not promote Blood Libel. He is too busy smearing LGBTQ people!

According to a piece at VCY America (Voice of Christian Youth):

If ADF Had a Coherent Argument They Would Not Have to Lie

“ADF is dishonest out of greed for money, power and influence. As such they are far more shameful than any gay couple entering into marriage.”
Alliance Defending Freedom
ADF has always been a dishonest hate group
via Media Matters for America
Alliance Defending Freedom is an anti-LGBTQ hate group. I have little quarrel with their religious beliefs. However their determination to impose those beliefs on public policy is unconstitutional. Given that those efforts are often at the expense of LGBTQ people, ADF's agenda is a paradigm of bigotry.

The latest email from ADF is titled: What happened to Jack. The banner text makes clear what the objective of the email is: “Your tax-deductible gift helps defend Jack and others like him.”
For several decades, Tim Gill, a Colorado mega-millionaire and LGBT activist, has poured millions of dollars into opposing the freedoms of people who hold the religious belief that marriage is only between one man and one woman. He is going after Christians and others who won’t support or celebrate different views on marriage because he wants to “punish the wicked.”
