Why Is FRC So Terrified By Factual Information?

According to Family Research Council, science isn't scientific and it is dangerous.
An e-pamphlet from Family Research Council
I have an email from Tony Perkins, leader of Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ hate group. The intent of the email is to induce people to make donations to FRC. The title of the email is Guess what public schools are teaching? Hint: It's not education! Most of my readers can anticipate what is coming.

The email provides a link to an FRC e-pamphlet titled Sex Education in Public Schools: Sexualization of Children and LGBT Indoctrination. The diatribe, written by Cathy Ruse, was posted in April.

Presumably the folks at Family Research Council realize that sex-ed doesn't have the ability to turn kiddies into Richard Simmons or Caitlyn Jenner. Neither sexual orientation nor gender identity are subject to influence. Both have biological components.

Abigail Shrier Admits Her Shortcomings

Abigail Shrier
via YouTube
Thursday, Abigail Shrier has made an important admission.

Abigail Shrier is the author of Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters. That book has become beloved by the Christian right because Shrier makes the case that young females can be influenced to become transgender.

If influence can make someone trans then conversion therapy should be able to make a transgender person cisgender. The validation of conversion therapy is important because it serves as a pretext for discrimination.

Shrier was interviewed by two of the far-right Heritage Foundation's propagandists: Virginia Allen and Lauren Evans. You would not expect them to ask tough questions and they did not.

Heritage Foundation employs the ultimate anti-transgender crackpot, Ryan T. Anderson. The organization embraces all of the anti-trans BS regardless of the absence of evidence.

At some point in the discussion, Shrier says this:
My book jumps off from the work of public health researcher Lisa Littman at Brown University, who found that all of a sudden adolescent girls, a demographic that had never experienced gender dysphoria, the severe discomfort in one’s biological sex, had never experienced this in any real numbers, all of a sudden had become the predominant demographic.

This Pretty Little Girl Scares the Crap Out of Christian Fundamentalists

Kai Shappley
Kai Shappley | via Netflix
Kai Shappley looks innocent enough. She seems harmless as well. An online search reveals no criminal record for the nine-year-old. Yet, American Decency Association has a problem with little Miss Shappley. An email for ADA is titled: Don't Trust the Baby-Sitters Club.

Their problem; their major malfunction; their neuroses are due to the fact that Kai Shappley is a transgender girl. American Decency Association (ADA) is an assumed name for Michigan Federation for Decency, formerly known as American Family Association of Michigan.

Sprigg of the Yukon

Peter Sprigg
Peter Sprigg of Family Research Council takes his one man bigotry show on the road. Alaska was a recent stop in the tour.
A right wing blogger who runs a minuscule 501(c)4 — Suzanne Downing — writes: Assembly to look at limiting First Amendment rights of therapists and clients. That is the demagogic version of the City of Anchorage is considering a ban on pediatric conversion therapy.

I have written enough about conversion therapy to simply state that it is ineffective and harmful pseudoscience. There is no peer-reviewed research in support of what amounts to voodoo.

In addition to the inherent harms, conversion therapy serves as a pretext for prejudice and oppression.

Brian S. Brown Should Consider the Fraternal Birth Order Effect

In an email sent on Wednesday, Brian S. Brown, on behalf of National Organization for Marriage, is at it again. Brown is engaged in a continuing effort to raise funds by denigrating gender-diverse kids.

Before I get into this, I am reminded that the Fraternal Birth Order Effect is validated science. For every older brother a male child has, there is a 33% increase in the naturally occurring odds of the male child being gay. How many of Brown's nine children are boys? What are the cumulative odds that his youngest son is gay? How would Brown respond?

A couple of days ago, via Twitter, Brian S. Brown asked me a rhetorical question: “Angry, much?” Yes, I am angry. I get very pissed off that religious conservatives are trying to marginalize exceptionally vulnerable gender-diverse children.

Two Teenage Girls Kiss - Earth Spins off its Axis

The Canadian produced series, The Next Step, is now in its seventh season and is popular among adolescents.
According to Paul Smeaton: BBC airs teen lesbian kiss in show for kids as young as 6. Mr. Smeaton is not exactly one of the world's smartest people. My immediate reaction is “So what?” Suggesting that gay people pose a peril to children is a sure sign of bigotry. Religious belief does not offer an excuse.

Paul Smeaton “explains:”
The BBC, the publicly funded British TV and radio institution, has aired a kiss between two teenage girls in a program aimed at young children.

“The Next Step” a Canadian-produced teen drama series following the stories of aspiring young dancers, featured a kiss between teen actresses Dani Verayo and Molly Sanders in a show aired last week.

The show was broadcast via the CBBC brand, which the BBC says is for children ages six to 15 years old.

Banks in Northern Ireland are Closing Accounts of Conversion Therapy Operations

The ancient art of alchemy
Courtesy of Getty Research Institute
There is increasing awareness that conversion therapy is a scam. Conversion therapy is ineffective and harmful.

Barclays Bank has told two conversion therapy mills that they are unwelcome as customers. The affected organizations are Core Issues Trust and the International Federation for Therapeutic and Counselling Choice. Both groups claim that they are not providing conversion therapy. Both groups do exist on conversion therapy.

Predictably, according to conservative Christian media, Barclays has caved to homosexual activists. I would like to believe that Barclays Bank has a sense of decency and chooses not to enable homophobia and transphobia. Both organizations will likely find another bank but the important message has been sent.

Fighting for a "Right" to Spread the Coronavirus

Tim Wildmon
No further proof is required that Tim Wildmon is a self-absorbed individual with no concern, whatsoever, for people who are not part of his immediate constituency.
via RightWingWatch
According to a July 28 email from American Family Association, an anti-LGBTQ hate group:
Churches across America are under attack. State and local governments have hijacked the China virus pandemic to prevent Christians from congregating for worship. God instituted government for the purpose of restraining and punishing evil (Romans 13:1-4), but He also commanded His people not to forsake the assembly of believers (Hebrews 10:25).
Hopefully readers will not be offended if I state that governments have been created by people. Were government the product of divine intervention, then many regimes present throughout the course of human history would never have existed. Among those are the dysfunctional and corrupt governments of more than a few majority Christian nations.

Bill Donohue Has the Same Old LGBTQ Problem

Bill Donohue seems to have plenty of time to write idiotic polemics but cannot be bothered to file the Catholic League's 2018 tax return which is now eight months past the final extension.
Bill Donohue
The Catholic League's Blowhard Bill Donohue
via YouTube
According to Bill Donohue of the Catholic League: Unalienable Rights Panel Draws Familiar Foes. Right off the bat, Bill Donohue is making an argument ad hominem (attacking the arguer rather than the argument). Donohue continues to do so throughout.
The Center for American Progress employs left-wing experts covering 21 different issues, one of which is Religion and Values. Unlike its support for LGBT rights, it shows very little enthusiasm for promoting religious rights. Indeed, it is more interested in detailing how religious liberty can be a problem.

The Hate Group Should Proofread Its BS

Coral Ridge Ministries Media, Inc. (aka D. James Kennedy Ministries) has released the results of a vital survey of Christian opinion on important issues that need to be addressed from the pulpit. Coral Ridge Ministries Media is deemed an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

CRM even paid Christian Newswire for a press release. Yet, for the year ended June 30, 2019 the organization posted a loss of over $1.2 million. (Although it did file a schedule 990-T to report taxable income, something I need to obtain). Provisioning “other liabilities” is guesswork but current liabilities seem to be twice current assets

Simply Stated, Mr. Anderson is Not Very Bright

Heritage Foundation staffers Fred Lucas and Ryan T. Anderson are terribly distressed. Blood pressures have been raised as has the consumption of antacids. Metamucil is no longer effective.

The latest rash of anxiety comes in the wake of Facebook's determination to rid their platforms (Facebook and Instagram) of content promoting conversion therapy.

It is understandable why Heritage is in a huff. After all, the existence of conversion therapy is an important pretext for oppressing, and discriminating against, LGBTQ people.
Ryan T. Anderson weighs in:
…Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has resisted stifling certain dissenting views.

However, this move seems to be censorship, said Ryan T. Anderson

Brian S. Brown Vomits More Transphobia Citing Abigail Shrier

Brian S. Brown
Writing on behalf of National Organization for marriage, Brian S. Brown writes:SHOCKING: Planned Parenthood allowing girls to self-diagnose transgenderism. Here is the applicable text:
This shocking social development fueled directly by LGBT activists and social media’s push to normalize transgenderism isn’t the worst of it. Get this: In an interview on the Joe Rogan podcast, author Abigail Shrier reports that girls can “self-diagnose” themselves as being transgender! “Nobody questions it,” Shrier told Rogan. “We now have informed consent. Which means you walk into Planned Parenthood, you sign a waiver, you decide you have gender dysphoria, you walk out that day with testosterone.”
A “girl” is a minor. Planned Parenthood does offer gender affirming hormone therapy. However, that service is only available for adults. Moreover, prior to receiving hormone therapy an individual must meet with a clinician who will perform a thorough confidential assessment.

Hallmark Channel Pisses Off Religious Conservatives Again

Resorting to a “gamer” to promote intolerance is a sure-sign of diminishing returns.
Hallmark Channel
via Crown Media Holdings
The naivety of religious conservatives is stunning. Calvin Freiburger writes: Hallmark commits to ‘LGBTQ storylines,’ caves to left-wing pressure. The subtitle of Freiburger's diatribe reads:
The channel known for its wholesome entertainment is following Hollywood's lead by committing to offer 'woke' content.
Hallmark's likely motivation is to attract viewers which translates into advertising revenues. Pressure is unlikely to alter the profit motive. Freiburger is also claiming that the inclusion of LGBTQ characters or storylines is unwholesome per se.

Anti-LGBTQ Hate Video Can Be Yours for a Donation of 25 Bucks

In His Image video
American Family Association, an anti-LGBTQ hate group, is offering a video for a donation of $25 or more. The obvious animosity is cloaked in religious “principles.”

Before I get into this, AFA is not designated as a hate group because its leader, Tim Wildmon, thinks that marriage is only valid between one man and one woman. Beliefs are not subject to sanction.

AFA is deemed a hate group because Tim Wildmon and his underlings make a deliberate effort to marginalize LGBTQ people.

Tony Perkins is Full of Crap - Shocking, I Know

Tony Perkins
The Heritage Foundation's blog has become an outlet for Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council. On Wednesday, Perkins writes: The Left Comes for Religious Hospitals.

I will keep this relatively brief, According to Mr. Perkins:
The justices predicted a war—and almost one month to the day of their Bostock ruling, they got one.

The first shot was fired last Thursday, when the ACLU decided to sue Maryland’s St. Joseph Medical Center for refusing to take out a woman’s perfectly healthy uterus just because she wanted to live as a man. It goes against the hospital’s religious beliefs, St. Joseph argued. But now, thanks to the Supreme Court, it might go against six justices’ ridiculous definition of “sex” too.
Mr. Perkins should actually read the complaint. He is wrong on many counts. The only question is whether he is ignorant or dishonest (okay, possibly both).

The Sanctimonious Reaction as Boris Johnson Plans to Ban Conversion Therapy

Boris Johnson
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has crazy hair but he is quite sane regarding the status of his LGBTQ constituents.
via Business Insider
Paul Smeaton is not pleased that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to ban conversion therapy. Smeaton, you may recall, is a half-assed religious academic at a miniscule Catholic “college.” I do give Smeaton credit for quoting PM Johnson as his subtitle:
Helping people overcome their unwanted sexual desires is 'absolutely abhorrent and has no place in a civilized society,' said Johnson.
Johnson has it about right. Conversion therapy is pseudoscience lacking any reasonably scientific study. It is not studied because practitioners know the outcome. At some point after completing “therapy,” the overwhelming majority of people will revert to their natural sexuality and they will have been damaged.

Another Chat With the Deity

Keep this in mind the next time one of these sanctimonious people says that we are to blame for a natural disaster.

According to lore, God has one-on-ones with individuals. Apparently, the more pious one claims to be, the greater the potential to have a little tête-à-tête. Call me a cynic but these cozy discussions seem more likely to take place when the earthly participant has goods to sell or seeks donations.

A contributing factor to these confabs is that other people tend to believe that they occurred. God told me to write this blog which provides an outlet to criticize self-righteous blowhards. Of course my readers immediately realize that I am being satirical. Possibly sardonic.

David Lane Claims That a Marxist/LGBTQ Revolution is Under Way

According to David Lane, Black Lives Matter is run by queers who are devoted to a Communist revolution.
David Lane
David Lane, a creepy Republican operative and Christian nationalist wants you to know: Which Companies Are Funding Systematic Violations of Law in America.

According to Lane:
It turns out that it's Fortune 500 companies that are fueling and bankrolling the Marxist revolution in America, such as UGG, Amazon, Pepsi's Gatorade, Microsoft, Warner Records, Intel, Xbox and Microsoft Games and Nabisco.
Mr. Lane does not understand anything about Marxism. He is just using a buzz word.

Two of those companies, Amazon and Microsoft, have about $1 trillion in market cap. To suggest that any of those very capitalistic operations have Marxist (actually communist) sympathies is not the dumbest thing that David Lane has expressed but it's close.

For years, Republicans have been claiming that Democrats are socialists, hoping that people will confuse socialism with totalitarian communism or Marxism. More recently, according to the same people, all those socialists are actually Marxists.

Trump Campaign Claims to Have a "Strong Lead" over Biden

The latest missive from the Trump campaign, signed by Donald Trump, incorporates the Nixonian language that has become so familiar:
Make no mistake, the Silent Majority will reign.

The Election is less than 4 MONTHS AWAY, and in order to keep our strong lead over the Do Nothing Democrats, we need to stay on track.
The following is rather amusing because I have other emails identifying me as a top supporter:
I’ve asked my team to pull the records of my BEST donors - our most loyal Patriots who I can always count on when I need them the most. I’m disappointed to say that when I asked for your file, they told me you showed up in the BOTTOM 1% of all Trump Supporters.

Janet Boynes is STILL Very Crazy

The ex-gay whack job continues to embarrass herself.
Janet Boynes
Janet Boynes is not just nuts. She has the diminished intellectual horsepower of a mouse on a treadmill. Boynes once advocated for Disney to include “ex-gay” TV characters. Boynes, according to her own book, is actually bisexual.

On Monday, Boynes is terribly upset with former NBA player Dwyane Wade over Wade's acceptance and support of his transgender daughter. Never mind that Boynes knows nothing about gender dysphoria (she has neither training nor experience), it never occurs to her that she should mind her own business.

Apparently:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
gives way to:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Ryan T. Anderson on Religious Liberty and "Gender Ideology"

“All this fuss over an issue involving 0.5% of the population while overlooking just how much damage Trump has already inflicted upon the nation. Not to mention Trump's complete lack of morality.”
Ryan T. Anderson
via YouTube
On Friday, Ryan T. Anderson took to Heritage Foundation's blog to opine on wins and losses at the Supreme Court regarding Religious Liberty©. In all things, Anderson strives to defend the teachings of the Catholic Church. According to doctrine, the very existence of transgender people insults scripture.

Ryan T. Anderson is of the opinion that he is a great deal smarter than he really is. Anderson simply repeats the same moronic, Vatican inspired, taking points which have become his personal catechism.

The end result of such an effort is inevitable. Drivel:

Mary Trump's Book and a Personal Fred Trump Anecdote

Fred & Donald Trump - Date and locale unknown
via CBS News
I finished reading Mary L. Trump's book: Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. It is a very depressing saga of parental abuse. I thought that my family was fucked up. Compared to this crew, they were the Waltons.

Fred Trump was a monster. He drove his eldest son, Fred Trump Jr., (Mary Trump's father), to an early grave because “Freddy” was not a monster. Freddy died at the age of 43; ill, penniless and an alcoholic.

Donald Trump was Fred's Frankenstein project. From the time when Donald was in his early 20s, he emulated Fred in every conceivable way to curry favor. To invite Fred's wrath was something that no one wanted to do.

Transgender People are Child Molesters

“Anti-LGBTQ bigotry serves no legitimate purpose.”
Jonathon Van Maren
Anti-choice loon and anti-LGBTQ bigot Jonathon Van Maren
via Stop the Killing
The bigot vomit expelled by Jonathon Van Maren is endless. Friday, his great revelation reads: BBC reports on disturbing female pedophilia case. The catch: She’s not really female. My readers are a great deal more intelligent than Van Maren could ever hope to be so you know what's coming:
Earlier this month, the BBC reported a stomach-turning story under the headline “Blackpool woman accessed child abuse images in hospital bed.” According to the BBC:
A woman who accessed her "vast" library of child sexual abuse images from her hospital bed has been jailed. Julie Marshall used public wifi to look at some of her 80,000 images as she recovered from a heart attack in August 2017, Preston Crown Court heard[.] ... Marshall, who admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, was sentenced to nine months in prison[.] … She was also given a 10-year notification order to sign the sex offenders register and a six-year sexual harm prevention order.

Peter Sprigg and Tony Perkins Have Their Problems

Thursday, a new polemic reminds me that Peter Sprigg and Tony Perkins are employed by Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ hate group. Sprigg is at least partially responsible for the fact that FRC is deemed a hate group (not that Tony Perkins needs much help in the bigotry department).

The pair have many problems. Among those are incuriosity, lack of critical thinking and intellectual deficits. They are also frequently dishonest. Lying for Jesus seems to be acceptable in their strange orbit.

Often when they are not being factually dishonest, the FRC folks are intellectually dishonest.

The Religious Right Doesn't Like $220 Million in Soros Philanthropy

“Soros and the foundations he funds are all about the positive. The religious right is exclusively negative…”
Paul Smeaton
Paul Smeaton is among the more intellectually
dishonest polemicists from the religious right.
via LifeSiteNews
Paul Smeaton, an anti-choice fanatic based in London writes: Liberal mega-donor Soros sends $220M to US groups demanding police defunding. Smeaton mischaracterizes the objectives of anti-racist African-American activist groups.

Defunding the police does not equate to abolishing the police (we have a president who dishonestly promotes extremes). As the ACLU explains, defunding the police will actually make us safer:
The idea of defunding, or divestment, is new to some folks, but the basic premise is simple: We must cut the astronomical amount of money that our governments spend on law enforcement and give that money to more helpful services like job training, counseling, and violence-prevention programs. Each year, state and local governments spend upward of $100 billion dollars on law enforcement—and that’s excluding billions more in federal grants and resources.
[…]
Funneling so many resources into law enforcement instead of education, affordable housing, and accessible health care has caused significant harm to communities. Police violence is actually a leading cause of death for Black men …
The simple fact is that what we are doing isn't working.

No Mr. Brown - You Were Wrong About Polygamy Then ... and Now

Brian S. Brown
Wednesday, Brian S. Brown of National Organization for Marriage is shouting: “Polygamy is coming! Polygamy is coming!” Of course, according to Mr. Brown, this is an unintended consequence of marriage equality.

Let us recall that NOM lost the battle for which it was formed. NOM was invested in marriage discrimination to the tune of $60 million by the time oral arguments were heard in Obergefell v. Hodges. $60 million pissed away. Brian S. Brown was paid handsomely and he was also looting the organization.

One of the more moronic arguments that Brown and his ilk made was that marriage equality would lead to polygamy. The slippery slope argument is a logical fallacy because there is no tangible link between the undesired event and the undesirable consequence.

Repeating Gibberish About "Transgender Ideology" Doesn't Convey Intelligence

A guy, a religious zealot, whose mission was once to get children addicted to nicotine, now pretends to care about trans children.
Kai Shappley
What kind of malevolent boob feels compelled to address Kai Shappley with male pronouns.
I think that it was Pope Francis who first uttered “transgender ideology.” Nevertheless, it is an idiotic characterization of people with a medical condition. Tuesday, according to Frank Schubert: Netflix Pushes Dangerous Transgender Ideology on Unsuspecting Children.

The outlet for Schubert's drivel is the blog of International Organization for the Family, an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

Just dealing with the headline, Schubert is a hypocrite. Frank Schubert was once a flack for Big Tobacco. Their objective was to get “unsuspecting children” addicted to nicotine. Today, Schubert is pushing the idea that the existence of transgender people poses a peril to children.

Wearing a Mask is "Tyranny"

John Paul Meenan
via Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College
John Paul Meenan writes: To Mask, or not to mask? That is the question:

Mr. Meenan is an assistant professor of theology at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College; 110 full time students in Barry's Bay, Ontario, Canada. The college offers a Bachelor of Catholic Studies. That college, by the way, has an aggressive response to the novel coronavirus. One that Mr. Meenan seemingly disagrees with.
'One of the primary tasks of a free citizenry is to resist encroaching tyranny – even of the ‘soft’ variety - for once we’ve given up our rights, ‘tis very difficult to get them back'
No you stupid schmuck. You wear a mask to prevent infecting others. That is a civic responsibility. With a reasonably functioning cerebral cortex, one would realize that masks prevent others from infecting you.

via Church Militant
According to Michael Gryboski at Christian Post and conversion “therapist,” Christopher Doyle: ‘Assault on free speech’: Facebook, Instagram bans content promoting 'conversion therapy.' Poor fellas.

It is true that a number of platforms ban conversion therapy content. They do so for good cause:
  • Conversion therapy is pseudoscience.
  • There is no evidence that it works.
  • There is evidence that it is harmful.
  • It falsely portrays sexual orientation and gender identity as choices.
  • It encourages, and is a pretext for, discrimination.

Focus Affiliate: Religious Freedom in Peril and Michelle Cretella is Authoritative

David Aucoin
The self-righteous Pastor David Aucoin is running for public office in Rhode Island with all the LGBTQ animus he can muster.
via Twitter
It's hard to determine which assertion is more idiotic. The idea that Religious Freedom on the Ropes or the notion that Michelle Cretella has expertise regarding gender dysphoria and gender-affirming care. Nevertheless, Dave Aucoin, who is associated with Family Policy Alliance in Rhode Island makes both claims.

According to Mr. Aucoin, a pastor running for a seat in the Rhode Island State Senate:
Courts, and the judges that serve on them, matter immensely. This fact has been in the spotlight over the last few weeks as the Supreme Court goes through its 2020 term.

The Bostock decision in particular – which defines “sex discrimination” as including gay and transgender status – is nothing short of a rejection of reality, not to mention Christian teaching and traditional moral values.

The orthodox Catholic crazies are displeased. I will get there.

But first, a faculty fellow at NDIAS is a full time position. Most faculty fellows are academics at Notre Dame or other universities. Their home university pays half their salary and provides health insurance. Notre Dame pays the other half.

Buttigieg will be one of 10-15 faculty fellows at NDIAS for 2020/2021. NDIAS provides a modest salary and a private office.

SCOTUS ruling in Guadalupe School v. Morrissey-Berru is a license to discriminate

“The important message is that LGBTQ individuals should not accept employment at religious schools.”
The nine justices of the United States Supreme Court
Employment nondiscrimination protection afforded by Title VII extends to religious organization with the exception of ministers. Wednesday's ruling did not change that.

However, the Court has now said that all teachers at Catholic schools are ministers regardless of whether or not they provide religious leadership. In other words, “minister” no longer means minister.

Last October Agnes Morrissey-Berru filed a brief in opposition to the request for the Supreme Court to hear this case. According to the brief:

Oy veh: "Catholic theology on gender could soon be illegal"

Brian S. Brown
Brian S. Brown must relish ridicule. According to an email from National Organization for Marriage: Catholic theology on gender could soon be illegal. No it could not! Mr. Brown also relishes victimhood.
Last week, the Catholic Church forcefully rejected the entire concept of “gender identity” when it issued a major new text containing religious instruction. In a 300-page Directory For Catechesis, the Church declared that the concept of “gender identity” denies a core biblical truth that God creates human beings “male and female.” Adherents to gender identity theory, however, “denies his nature and decides that he creates it himself.”
“God creates human beings ‘male and female’.” is a reference to Genesis 1:27. Emanations from the Vatican do not concern me until the Church seeks to impose its doctrine on public policy. Obviously, the concept of gender identity is not theoretical. Rather, it is a scientific reality which constructs truth for most rational people.

SBF as Crackpot Magnet

Michael Marcavage is perhaps best known for blaming an annual gay party in New Orleans in 2005 for Hurricane Katrina. This photo is seemingly quite dated. In 2014 Marcavage was in a snit over Burger King's support of Pride.

I receive a great deal of email from readers. These include the occasional legal threat. Sullivan protection applies in most matters because most of the miscreants covered are public figures. I rarely write about these threats but Michael Marcavage deserves some attention by virtue of how he attempted to coerce a takedown.

What I recently wrote about Marcavage was taken from federal court records. He tried to disrupt a Pride parade which had a permit from the City of Philadelphia. Police intervened. Marcavage sued the City. He was represented by the now defunct legal division of American Family Association, an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

Porno Pete Goes All In on Somerville

Peter LaBarbera
The comically crazy anti-LGBTQ Peter LaBarbera
Tuesday, Hate Group Leader Peter LaBarbera (Americans for Truth About Homosexuality) predicts that ordinances recognizing polyamorous relationships will “start popping up nationwide.” Miss Cleo isn't really dead after all.

As I pointed out on Sunday, the Somerville, Massachusetts ordinance doesn't really do anything. Nor does it have anything to do with marriage or marriage equality. Fundamentalists love being victims even if they have to manufacture the victimization.

Porno Pete suggests that LGBTQ people will endorse polyamory. That is because, in his orbit, everything is subject to either approval or shame. Judgement is required! The truth is that most people are indifferent to how other people live their lives. The existence of polyamorous relationships has no effect, whatsoever, on others.

The Religious Right Idolize Putin for His Homophobia

Vladimir Putin
Shedding the last vestiges of legitimacy, Vladimir Putin is now president of the Russian Federation through 2036. Putin will probably engineer an extension at that time. The religious right are drooling admirers of his bigotry towards LGBTQ people.
via Philadelphia Inquirer
Monday, Martin Bürger's story is titled Russian President Putin mocks US embassy for flying gay pride flag. Be assured that Mr. Bürger is gushing over — not ridiculing — the president of the Russian Federation.

According to Bürger:
Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that a “gay pride” flag flying at the U.S. embassy in Moscow indicates the people working there are homosexuals.

When Putin was told during a televised video conference that the U.S. embassy had a pride flag hanging from the front of its building to celebrate Pride month in June, he asked, “Who works in this building?” When the president was told “Americans,” he responded, “Let them celebrate.”

On Sunday, J.K. Rowling embarked on a tweetstorm worthy of Donald Trump. She set out to prove something. Ms. Rowling, in the process, confirms that she is an ignoramus. Rowling would be ignored were it not for the amplification of her microphone and the potential to influence others.

After all, Ms. Rowling is a fantasy fiction writer. She has no training in medicine or behavioral health. Rowling has created a fuss because of her celebrity status in contrast to anything passing for erudition. She should save the fantasy fiction for Harry Potter.

Mr. Perkins: What is a "Jewish practitioner?"

Tony Perkins
Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council is an anti-Semite. Perkins' anti-Semitism complements his anti-LGBTQ bigotry. At Heritage Foundation's blog, Perkins offers: Court to Lawmakers: It’s Not OK to Treat Churches and Businesses Differently During COVID-19. Therein is this:
After weeks of unequal treatment, the George Floyd protests seemed to be the final straw. At the request of two priests and three Jewish practitioners, Thomas More Society took [New York Gov. Andrew] Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to court, where the disparity was embarrassingly obvious.
The correct word, of course, is “rabbi.” The word practitioner is generally reserved for a medical professional. Why choose “practitioner” which is a secular designation?

Blaming Marriage Equality for Something That Did Not Happen

Post hoc ergo propter hoc. Fun with logical fallacies.
The confusion of correlation with causation is rampant among the religious right. If something desirable happens: “God answered our prayers.” If something undesirable occurs: “God has punished us for our sins.” This is how LGBTQ people get blamed for hurricanes and all manner of natural disasters.

Blame is assigned to LGBTQ people for anything that the self-righteous set doesn't like. Which is why one of LifeSiteNews' village idiots, Jonathon Van Maren, has penned: Massachusetts city approves polyamory, the inevitable consequence of gay ‘marriage.’

These are sore losers who can never get past the ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. They are now dedicated to “proving” that it was a bad decision as if that will somehow make it go away. They are incapable of appreciating their own futility. I think that they enjoy being pissed off as a divine sacrifice.

Thursday's Enlightenment From an "Ex-Gay" Crackpot

Elizabeth Woning
Elizabeth Woning of Bethel Church has an enormous economic interest in promoting conversion therapy.
via Equipped to Love/Bethel Church
Thursday, the supposedly ex-gay Elizabeth Woning wants everyone to know her contorted truth about the challenges of being ex-gay. Her plea is: Churches Must Embrace Those Leaving LGBTQ Culture.

It is crap at the outset because a sexual orientation — even an orientation that Ms. Woning disapproves of — does not define a “culture.” Cranks like Woning do this as part of an effort to define people by their sexuality.

Elizabeth Woning is employed by what is arguable a cult, Redding Church in Bethel, California. Bethel Church promises to heal people of their ailments through prayer. They even have Healing Rooms which accommodate the gullible through televised sessions. Blind people become sighted, tumors disappear, the lame walk and so on — if you believe the grift.

Elizabeth Woning is one of Bethel's “healers.” Woning runs an operation for Bethel called Equipped to Love. There is nothing loving about pray-the-gay-away scams. At best the hoax encourages gay people to pretend to be heterosexual.

NOM du Jour

Brian S. Brown
I give Brian S. Brown some credit. Every single day Brown comes up with some reason that people should donate money to National Organization for Marriage. Bri is quite innovative in coming up with new ways to sell bottled air.

Thursday's email from Mr. Brown is titled: gorsuch betrayal fires up the left. Justice Gorsuch does not deserve a capitalized surname in NOM-world. I am truly saddened that Brown feels betrayed.
In the award for the most surprising, unexpected and unprincipled ruling during this Supreme Court term, last week 's betrayal of conservatives and those who hold traditional values by Justice Neil Gorsuch wins the gold medal. Gorsuch wrote the majority opinion in a crucial “transgender” case involving Title VII, and effectively redefined the term “sex” in federal law to mean “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.” It was an outrageous ruling, a pure act of legislating from the bench. And it is having profound impacts already.

Brian Dear: You Do Not Have "Members" & Soros Doesn't Know You Exist

Brian S. Brown
I have a bunch of emails from Brian S. Brown on behalf of International Organization for the Family (an anti-LGBTQ hate group) titled: soros upset by our members.

Mr. Soros will continue to do what he does which is to selflessly fund groups that contribute to mankind; something that seems foreign to Mr. Brown. According to the text:
There are hundreds of thousands of pro-family activists and leaders around the globe, and the International Organization for the Family (IOF) is proud of our work … only a small percentage of people have taken the step of becoming a member of IOF by making a financial contribution to support our work. Our future success is dependent on increasing our base of Members, which is why we have launched our Summer Membership Drive.

Hate Group's Upisdownism Casts Hate as Love

Family Research Council knows a thing or two about actually recruiting young people.
via Facebook
Wednesday, at the blog of Family Research Council — an anti-LGBTQ hate group — Laura Lee Caum asks a rhetorical question: How Do We Authentically Love Our LGBT-Identifying Neighbors?

If it is an “authentic expression” then, at the outset, three things come to mind:
  1. Drop the “identifying” BS. That construct is conservative Christian-speak to deny the existence of LGBTQ people. We are neither confused nor broken. We don't need to be fixed. The purpose for “identify as” is to preempt the notion that her deity is responsible for the creation of LGBTQ people.
  2. Actually speak with some LGBTQ people; something that Caum does not seem to have ever done. If she has then she hasn't been listening.
  3. Don't enable to antisocial behavior of an anti-LGBTQ hate group.
Laura Lee Caum is young. She is a recent (or soon to be) graduate of Samford U., a Christian college in Alabama. We must accept the fact that she does not have fully developed critical thinking skills. Sadly (and it is not her fault), her intellectual curiosity is probably as developed as it will ever be.
